1st oval race, 19th place, not a scratch on the truck, barely went a lap down before the end.

Just to remind you guys. Shane van gisbergen has 80 wins and 3 v8 supercar championships. he also got on the podium in the wrc at new zealand, won in a gt3 car, won at a drifting event and won in a open wheel event. put him in anything, and he will make it dance. give it time and he will thrive. not everyone is perfect on day one
I’d say a top 20 oval appearance in the truck series isn’t horrible for him tbh

He’s literally never driven a paved oval in his life before yesterday afternoon
The whole point of him being in this race was to get a feel for a paved oval. He finshed ahead of his starting position and didnt damage the car. He stated on his interview with Dale jr that he wasnt going to push things as he didn’t want to ruin someones season if he got involved in a wreck He knows there are people fighting for the championship. The whole point of this race was for him to get the feel for a style of racing he has never done before. He also brought a lot of eyes to the truck series as well. Lets see how he goes at the next road race. I dont think he will win it but he will certainly be up near the front if no one wrecks him.
