Dude, that would be so cursed if Denny Hamlin and 23XI Racing went to Ford. I would like it though lol.
Petty font going to a non usa manufacturer to this.
Finally Toyota getting more cars in the field with LMC coming in 2024, oh wait nvm because now Denny Hamlin wants 23×11 to be Ford lol
That’s not really what it seems like. Denny says his contract with JGR as a driver is done but waiting to be signed because they haven’t finished the deals with TRD and JGR for 23XI (those contracts end this year too). He wants to stay with Toyota and JGR but 23XI is the hold up. He can’t drive a Toyota for JGR if his team isn’t going to get re-upped with them for whatever reason.
@BA#97 Racingi can also see Denny trying to push for 23XI to be Toyota direct instead of under JGR
Hand-me-downs from JGR were never the long term plan for 23XI, you can’t afford to end up like FRR or LFR. That doesn’t mean Toyota isn’t in the long term plan but it’d be silly for them to not at least talk to Ford and Chevy.
That being said, even without SHR, Ford has Penske, RFK, and Rick Ware. They wouldn’t be more of a priority there either, and frankly not with Chevy either. I think TRD is still their best opportunity.
To be fair, FRR won a championship with those leftover scraps
I bet 23Xi meeting with Ford was testing the market to see if they were getting a fair offer from Toyota. Then after all the news talks about 23xi talking to Ford they go back to Toyota and negotiate.
With Ford coming out with a new body next year maybe Denny knows something others don’t.
It’s KFB all over again… though to be fair, Jimmie Johnson’s in a Toyota next year, so Denny Hamlin in a Ford could happen. How would the different aerodynamic characteristics of the Ford body impact 23XI? Bubba Wallace is an excellent plate racer, and the Fords have put on a clinic on the big tracks. It could certainly lead to a win or two. As for Tyler Reddick, I don’t expect too much change. If anything, it may end up hurting his performance as the Fords have been middling on the short tracks and road courses. Except when a certain, other Mikey is behind the wheel.
Actually fords best at short tracks
With only 2 total wins (1 was because it was cut short) in the cup series Bubba isn’t Excellent by any standard.
So Denny buys one charter and races for his own team… and Trackhouse buys one to sign SVG?
@Damon Wilsonbubba Wallace demeanors needing to demean bubba by any means necessary even when completely irrelevant to the conversation. Let’s not forget he’s one spot in points behind the defending series champion.
Also he was specifically referring to plate races. Who do you typically see battling for the lead at the end of plate races? Bubba is usually in it at the end
If this happened, it would be one of the biggest upsets in so many season history
Denny Hamlin won’t be a Villian anymore tho
If Toyota loses 23XI, and maybe Hamlin as well all because of deals expiring and sponsorship drying up, I think this is more Joe Gibbs’ fault, since he basically controls all of Toyota’s assets and equipment leases in nascar. Every single piece of Toyota equipment comes from JGR, and is distributed to all the Toyota teams across the sport. If any Toyota teams look bad, then that also makes both Gibbs and Toyota as a whole look bad.
They’ve already been under hot water for losing teams like Furniture Row, Kyle Busch Motorsports, and Leavine Family, but also star drivers like Logano, Busch, Kenseth, Jones, Suarez, and Harrison Burton in Xfinity. If they lose another elite driver, and a whole organization on top of that, then Toyota maybe in trouble. They are gaining the addition of Petty GMS to their line up next year, but with how they’re performing now, this is not looking good.
They can’t afford to let this happen. The more they let their assets slip through their fingers, the more their future looks uncertain.
And btw remember the implications of SHR and its future concerning the support and technical assistance its supplies to many Ford Xfinity teams, something to think about?
I know Denny took on their pit crews out of needing to get things rolling. I am glad he is taking the steps to get out from under them. I recall the incident at Indy with Adam Stevens and the 78 team. Right there you could see the tention that being part of their “organization” created such animosity amongst the 78 team and JGR. I know he still won the cup with that monkey on the back but was just a shame for the crew members to endure.
Furniture Row did win a championship with Martin Truex Jr, but it does seem like JGR puts the strews to satellite teams pretty hard. It is a very tough business, the hardest maybe…
I think you’re right about shr, they’re in deep trouble and next year don’t look any better, I believe Denny will stay with Joe Gibbs,as far as23&11 they stay with Toyota
Honestly I kind of liked the Race for the Championship, but I’m not surprised it didn’t work in terms of bringing in new fans. Hopefully with the Netflix series that can change
If that happens to SHR it truly is a sad fall from grace for a once great organization
Also I wander if Legacy is TRD direct bc of how JGR did the other teams in the past.
If SHR is thinking about charter sales, something makes me think Denny would try to have Ford help acquire the charter(s) in a 23XI deal if it came to it. 23XI probably wont foot the bill for charters in the current market by itself, but Ford might want to keep those charters in their system. This feels like a scenario though that would take a lot longer to come about though, its already August and all of these rumors are just starting.
most likely the 10 charter will be sold.
Holy moly, exciting times for the sport folks…. this is BIG if true and I love it!
Hey Eric I was wondering do you think there is any chance Elliott missed the playoffs? I’ve said it all season he’s an 11th-17th place driver at best and I said at Watkins glen he will be a non-factor…. Or will bubba still keep the spot?
