What NASCAR rules do you like and/or want to go away?
I like no stage cautions for the road courses
The DVP is awful also playoff waivers
I actually think and don’t know the opinion on this but I think the choose rule was a good addition
Abolish playoffs. Go back to a regular points format like Winston points Style format or a Indycar points style format.
Go back to the 2003 points format playoffs only belong in stick and ball sports not motorsports
“Hey I got a great idea, how about we just get rid of the yellow line rule?”
-Dale Jr.
Go back to the original Chase playoff format.
Get rid of stage breaks. Period.
Keep the DVP clock but give the teams more time (15 minutes).
Let’s be honest the yellow line has caused more crashes then it’s stopped
I’ve been say this for years thank you!
As an initial supporter of the rule, I agree, it needs to go, especially with the safety advances of the past 20+ years.
Agreed
If Dale jr one of the best in history at that style of racing if racing says it needs to go that really says something.. even Dale jr said exactly that
Tbh id leave it there bc someone is gonna make a stupid move and wreck the feild u can find these examples in like iracing u can penalize them but it aint gonna change the fast they wrecked the feild or ur favourite driver
Stages should be kept but with no yellows. Not only would you be able to keep stage points, which some have grown to love, but it would allow for more in-race strategy.
It’s a good in-between to agree on. As someone who things stage racing should go entirely I can live with no stage cautions
@Iceman Same, I just don’t like the interruption.
The only problem with this is that I don’t think Nascar will do it. The only reason they added stages was for the scheduled cautions. That way, they can have guaranteed pauses for commercials on TV and a break for the fans to buy food.
yellow line rule goes….. if it is for crashes there will still be rules and lucky dog rule STAYS
Dale Jarrett’s crash at New Hampshire in 2003 is what brought the lucky dog rule.
That incident is also what put an end to race back to the line when caution comes out rule
Yeah he almost got hit by car’s racing back to the line because his car was sitting in the middle of the track
The lucky dog rule wasnt about freezing the field. It was put into place when they decided to change the restart rules and not have lap down cars restart on the inside. It’s to still give the lap down guy the chance he would have had if he restarted in the front of the field.
No it was because of Dale Jarrett’s wreck at New Hampshire and just about getting plowed down because of racing back to the line .
@Kharn The Betrayer this is why they changed the rule about racing to the line not why they added the lucky dog. They added the lucky dog specifically when they changed the restart rule with the lapped cars going to the tail end.
@SmokeyMcHaggis 2003 the same yr for the Jarrett crash…
During the 2003 season, to increase safety for the drivers, NASCAR banned racing back to the yellow flag after the caution is displayed. While this has increased safety (safety crews can respond more quickly) the rule contains a special “beneficiary” or as it’s more commonly known, a “lucky dog” provision.
Nothing for the rules is anything close to what you posted.
At stage yellows, I actually said out loud “get ’em out of here.” Not having them may not make for the most interesting races, but if the races aren’t interesting, the guaranteed yellows are NOT the solution.
The yellow line rule should never have been created in the first place. It’s caused more problems for racing than it has fixed them.
The only good thing the yellow line rule did was prevent Teresa from winning another race as a car owner in 2008, unfortunately at Regan Smith’s expense.
The fact that NASCAR has to modify the DVP every week and year, proves out much of a bs rule it is. If you can’t keep a rule consistent, then just ditch it
Change the point system to something between what we have now and the Winston Cup style system.
If you still want to do a playoff format fine. But drivers who have done well all season should carry more points into the playoff.
If they fall apart the door is open. If they keep it up they win. And I’m totally fine having a guy just have to finish 22nd in the final race to be champion regardless of what anyone else does.
They would have earned that with consistent performance.
Personally, the DVP clock has been a good rule. It’s cheaper for the teams and cuts down on payback wrecks and other obvious race manipulation.
I hate the dvp rule. If you can repair your car and get it back on the track you should be able to compete. Even if it is for 35 position, maybe even better depending on DNF’s of other drivers.
Technically, “Lucky Dog” was coined by Michael Waltrip during the truck races, and that spread to the Cup booth before Aaron’s did the sponsorship. But yeah, get rid of the rule.
Another recent rule change you didn’t mention – The choose rule! I actually like that change. One tweak I would do is, on big ovals, put the choose box on the backstretch, like they do on road courses. Cut down the number of pace laps.
I don’t think it will change how many laps are run under caution though. When it’s one to go they get ready to go double file.
I remember when they started double file restarts. I remember how simple of an idea it was but to me it felt like a brand new sport. Blew my mind the first couple of races. I hate when Nascar suspends a driver and then grants them a playoff waiver. I also hate that it all comes down to 1 race. I feel like if they are going to do things the way they are doing it now it should come down to the final 3 races and whoever has the most points out of the final 4 should win.
What Kyle Busch did in 2015 should be considered one of the greatest performances/comebacks of all time. Considering Chase Elliott will end up missing less races and still it looks like he is going to miss the playoffs all together let alone win the championship like Kyle did. What he did that year was simply amazing
Thanks you first person who thinks like me
