There was a report I saw that says he fractured his back and is leaking spinal fluid. I hope it’s not true

My heart dropped watching this live… then once I saw the replay I couldn’t even process what happened, lost count of how many flips that happened, so glad to see that he got out, idk how, but he did, thanks to the safety of these cars

Never thought I’d see a more violent flip than Ricky Rudd’s ‘84, but here we are.

Reply
Upright Fossil August 27, 2023 at 3:28 am

Agreed. That was one of the most violent rolls ever

Reply
Jim Featherstone August 27, 2023 at 3:28 am

randy lajoies was worse also in 84, he hit the retainer after flying through the air.

Reply
michael roberts August 27, 2023 at 3:32 am

@Jim Featherstone you think Corey has ever watched that clip and realized how lucky he is to exist?

Reply

My soul went out of my body when I saw this. I thought this was a fatal wreck. When I saw him standing on his feet my soul came back. I couldn’t get a word out. I cant stop thinking of this crash. Haven’t seen anything like this in 20 years.

@Acerosstine49 I mean like major, the Perkins flip went airborn, but not this airborn

Reply

@CookiesNeeze05 Ryan flip was similar to a GT3 imsa flip

Upright Fossil August 27, 2023 at 3:27 am

I don’t worry anymore. These guys are bullet proof and the cars are built to protect them. Shocked that the car was able to flip that many times, but not surprised that he walked away. Glad he did. Myatt Snider crash was another. And the NASCAR history records many others.

My heart stopped. I could not believe how that car defied physics. Prayers up for Ryan. I hope he’s okay. 3,500 pounds, folks.

That car didn’t defy physics. It defined it.

The car did not defy physics….it proved many of the laws of physics.

Reply
Mark Renn August 27, 2023 at 3:05 am

This seriously scared me to death. I kept thinking, “He’s not getting out. He’s not getting out. He’s not getting out.” Then he got out and stood up. I let out a huge sigh of relief. DAMN that was scary.

Did you not watch NASCAR before this year? Austin’s and Newman’s were infinitely worse than this. Even Blaney’s in this race was scarier to me.

Reply
goldosprey August 27, 2023 at 3:50 pm

@Backroad Bandit Racing Thats just it, Austins went into the fence, and Newmans didn’t flip as much. This reminds me of Rusty Wallace’s wreck in 93

Reply
goldosprey August 27, 2023 at 3:50 pm

I saw it and i was going, hes taking forever to get out, somethings wrong

Reply
Mark Renn August 27, 2023 at 4:29 pm

@Backroad Bandit Racing None of those wrecks were with this new car. It’s only been in use 2 seasons.

That was the most violent crash I’ve ever seen in any Motorsport. I almost started crying from relief when Preece got out of that car.

Reply
Daniel's Dimension August 27, 2023 at 3:06 am

That crash was wild. A lot of flips and hard hits in the ground.

The important thing is he walked away from the car

Reply
Rocky Gordon August 27, 2023 at 3:18 am

I hope he is alright, that was scary.

Reply
JackLikesTrackhouse August 27, 2023 at 3:11 am

The fact that Preece walked away after flipping 11 times with a car as liable as the Next Gen that doesn’t crumple as much as any other generation of car is a miracle and a half

Reply
Izz Din August 27, 2023 at 5:08 am

To be fair to the gen7 car, its made for these sorta heavy shunts. The smaller more frequent hits are what pains the drivers most because its such a stiff chassis. All that stiffness for the heaviest hits.

Patrick Krchnak August 27, 2023 at 3:11 am

I saw this on live tv as it happened. My heart dropped so much when he went airborne. Incredible that he made it out of the car still standing. Sending prayers for him. Edit: I saw the tweet he made. I’m glad he’s doing okay.

That is insane, prayers for Ryan.

Reply
Hank Jr August 27, 2023 at 3:57 am

Just unreal, never seen one flip so fast. Looked like his car was making 2-3 rotations per second at one point. Can’t imagine the experience Preece just went though. This may take the cake as the most violent flip. Looking back at older crashes, like Rusty Wallace Talladega flip in ‘93 none flip a rapidly as Preece.

Being a driver can be a pretty tough gig at times, especially in moments like these. I’ve seen some horrifying wrecks in my time but it’s been a while. But given he was able to stand up out of his car after that was an unbelievable relief. Hope your medical eval goes well, Ryan! I hope for your speedy recovery and return to us!
