Why It’s OK That Chase Elliott Missed the Playoffs

Visit the New Merch Store Here:

For the first time in his full-time NASCAR Cup Series career Chase Elliott missed the NASCAR Playoffs. While it took a lot to hold NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver out of the postseason it happened nonetheless. Today I want to look at why it is not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things and why people should not freak out over this happening. After all this year was one that had just about every problem under the sun go wrong. This is why it’s ok that Chase Elliott missed the playoffs.

Do you think that Chase Elliott will recover in 2024?

The Ultimate Agent of Chaos 2 August 30, 2023 at 10:14 pm

Yes, he can start focusing on next season already

Grover Cleveland August 30, 2023 at 10:15 pm

I’d be shocked if he didn’t. If 2023 was his version of Truex 2022, then we are so back next year!

Big Ed (GOBLUE) August 30, 2023 at 10:16 pm

I think he will! He has a lot of talent and a really good team behind him. Obviously things like miscommunication errors are going to have to be worked out but he has easily shown that he is a championship winning driver. #9 all the way!

Probably, but no one will know for sure until next year actually happens.

He’ll be back in 2024. Anyone who doesn’t think so is kidding themselves. And idk if you made a mistake but he absolutely did not have the best season of anyone in 2021. I don’t know where you get that from. Larson by all statistical categories was better and not even close

cadillacjohn1994 August 30, 2023 at 10:20 pm

He might not win for a little bit, but he’s bound to do it again eventually, even if it takes 1 or 2 more years to do it. He’s still has the skills to get the job done to recover from the “Winston cup” championship hangover he’s had this year.

@StewieGriffinFanProductions1999never said that

I think he meant 2022 or 2020

Plus he’s still signed with HMS through 2027.

Tbh, he would’ve been in the NASCAR Playoffs if he didn’t wreck Hamlin at Charlotte. Yeah, Hamlin got into him but Chase is responsible for his own actions.

Reply
BDeLuca4444 August 30, 2023 at 10:22 pm

Hopefully Hamlin will feel the responsibility of his own actions when Larson man’s up and takes him out.

Reply
Craig Stephenson August 30, 2023 at 10:37 pm

Ehh, not really. Chase was like a hundred points down after the Glen and those two races added up to like 60-70 points at most (likely less seeing the 9 car’s setup at Gateway.) That might have put him in a win or hope Bubba crashes out situation at Daytona, but still not a good points situation. It’s really that combined with the strategy mistakes at the Glen and Michigan that kept him out of the playoffs.

Marcusjohns25 August 30, 2023 at 10:19 pm

As a chase Elliott fan i can see him bounce back next year.

Reply
BDeLuca4444 August 30, 2023 at 10:19 pm

Not every season goes as planned. He’s not driving bad, just needs a reset and have a more straightforward 2024.

Reply
Scout22 August 30, 2023 at 10:20 pm

Wait are people actually worried about his future? Lmao, Logano won the championship the season after he missed the playoffs and Truex has a strong chance of doing the same this season.

Reply
ChaseTPS August 30, 2023 at 10:21 pm

Yeah, fans are a bunch of clowns sometimes.

Reply
cadillacjohn1994 August 30, 2023 at 10:22 pm

And as soon as Logano jumped ship from Gibbs to Penske, he was almost immediately more competitive as the years went by.

Reply
JJA1987 August 30, 2023 at 10:28 pm

It’s mostly the clowns that hate him

Reply
Scout22 August 30, 2023 at 10:35 pm

@cadillacjohn1994 yeah I’ve been a Logano fan since the Gibbs days and he is the perfect example that sometimes a driver just needs a different situation to succeed. Kyle Busch is doing the same to a lesser extent this season.

Reply
cadillacjohn1994 August 30, 2023 at 10:41 pm

@Scout22 agreed. I also wouldn’t even be surprised if Busch wins the championship again either this year or not too far off into the future. Sometimes, one change is all you need.

I think he would’ve made it easily if he didn’t get injured in a snowmobile accident and didn’t get suspended

Reply
Cito Browne August 30, 2023 at 10:23 pm

I’m just hoping for Elliott to get at least 1 win before the year is out. But, I guess it’s on to 2024 now
Honestly, I was hoping for NASCAR to make an announcement that they’d finally abolish the Playoff format they’ve been using for 10 straight seasons, but that’s not happening any time soon since they have that Netflix show coming out in 2024.

Travis Pavich August 30, 2023 at 10:26 pm

Elliot will be just fine. Sure, it sucks. Take the injury and missing races because of it into account. Guarantee if he didn’t get injured, he would be in the playoffs.

Reply
Ticona2 August 30, 2023 at 10:54 pm

I could not have said it better. Stop blaming his crew chief.

Reply
Daniel Chai August 31, 2023 at 1:04 am

and not only would he have been in the playoffs but he would’ve been in by a ton. even when the 9 was running 30th almost every week when he was out, the 9 car still got in.

Reply
Shiny Starmie Studios August 31, 2023 at 1:47 am

Getting suspended for right-hooking Hamlin didn’t help.

Reply
Travis Pavich August 31, 2023 at 2:11 am

@Shiny Starmie Studios very true. But take the injury away and chase runs every race this season except the race he was suspended. He would still have gotten in on points. But add the injury and suspension, it took its toll

Reply
Daniel Chai August 31, 2023 at 6:49 am

@Shiny Starmie Studios the suspension made absolutely zero difference either way

I hope bowman does what Byron did this season and elliott will fire off

Reply
Tyler Speer August 30, 2023 at 11:07 pm

I believe if Bowman wasn’t injured he would of been more consistent. He had speed for the most part since Chicago and he looked like he was at the beginning of the season. He will come back better and stronger next year.

If someone like Buescher or Reddick missed the playoffs due to an injury, everyone would be saying how much they felt bad for them. But since it’s Elliott and he’s one of the more controversial drivers it’s “he did it to himself” or “I’m glad he missed it”. I know his fans can be annoying but come on. As for Chase, he’ll be fine. Bigger names have missed it for less excusable reasons.

HelsinkirocksAGF August 31, 2023 at 12:40 am

Getting suspended for wrecking another driver should’ve automatically made him ineligible.

Reply
John Haas August 31, 2023 at 12:59 pm

@HelsinkirocksAGFwell NASCAR has before given waiver for suspension so only right chase got one for that

Paul Day August 30, 2023 at 10:43 pm

Chase will win more championships and a lot of races in the next 15 years. Every pro athlete has off years and this was his. IMO, this legitimizes the playoffs format. He missed 7 races and didn’t win any of the ones he ran. He SHOULDN’T make it in if that happens. I’ll root for The#9 team to win the owners championship and Larson and Byron for the drivers.

Reply
FFR August 31, 2023 at 4:19 am

Playoff format is not legitimate because of this. In fact, the fact that he missed seven races and could’ve gotten i n with just a win is ridiculous. Sorry to Kyle Busch in 2015…. but it’s true!

Reply
mimimi August 31, 2023 at 7:40 am

It’s not legitimate because the playoffs are a cancer

Reply
Meowth August 30, 2023 at 11:04 pm

It just baffles me that some people are actually worried for Chase’s future just cause he missed the playoffs for the first time lmao it’s not the end of the world. Logano literally won the championship the year after he missed and Truex is on the verge of doing the exact same this year as the Regular Season Champion like in 2017 after he missed last year.
And while not an Elliott fan, I know how they feel cause I felt the same frustration last year as a Truex fan. But Chase is going to be just fine in 2024. Every driver has an off year and this one was really due to Elliott’s injury and suspension after the Coca-Cola 600.

100% agree. I’m not hitting the panic button either. The 9 and 48 will contend again in 2024.

everyone freaking out elliott misses it when the same things happened truex in ‘22, logano in ‘17, jimmie in ‘19 and ‘20,…

GoodOl'Roll August 31, 2023 at 1:31 am

Jimmie in 2019-2020 isn’t applicable like Truex and Logano. Jimmie never made a comeback like the other two.

Any injury will take time for a person to feel 100% again. Chase Elliott will be back to his normally top performing self

I’m a Hendrick fan… the biggest thing with Eliott all season is his lack of fire. He just seemed okay with not winning. What happens behind closed doors is another story I’m sure. As a fan, I want to see that personality in him come out… he’s too ‘bland’ whatever happens, happens.

Elliott Ashe August 30, 2023 at 11:34 pm

I’ve been a big Chase fan since he was in trucks (I was named after his dad), and as much as I hate to see him miss the playoffs this year, I can’t say I’m surprised either. A leg injury is no small deal, and seeing my mom heal from a broken leg, it’s a tough road to go down. Cup has been wildly competitive in the past couple years, and I knew that Chase making the playoffs was going to be a tall order. I hope to see him grab at least one win during the playoffs this year.

Honestly this may be a good thing cause they can really experiment on setups in the next 10 races

Gordon’sMonteCarlo#24 August 31, 2023 at 2:35 am

He’ll probably make a comeback next year, or he might start his comeback sometime later this season because it’s not over yet, same thing goes for Bowman
