Hopefully Harrison and Austin aren’t terrible next year with this crew chief swap. I don’t thing it could be worse than this year though.

@Adrian My question as well. Underperformed in Xfinity, was never a top tier driver

This was extremely expected.

But it’s cool that JHN is in the #42 like Joe Nemechek did back in the 90s and when JHN was with Ganassi in Xfinity.

Just like the #8 and #87 for the Nemechek’s, like father, like son!

Also Joe ran Toyotas for his final few years from what I remember, and now John-Hunter will be driving a Toyota in cup.

@The Starlight Alchemist things just keep adding up in terms of what they have in common on track

Good for John definitely he deserves a cup ride again but they really did Noah dirty.

Legacy MC will be way more competitive in 2024 with TRD support. I still don’t understand why they split up Cindric and Wilson in the 1st place. Had good chemistry in Xfinity, 2020 Xfinity champ and very close to back to back in 2021.

Kvapil will also be making his debut at Kansas in the Arca series this weekend

I would have said JH moving to the 42 to be a lateral move to the FRM ride he had back then, but seeing what Carson Hocevar do in that 42 ride gives me hope that the team he is inheriting is capable of more than the back marker it has been most of the season. That said, the 42 has had 1 top 10 in the past 2 years (Ty Dillon at Bristol Dirt 2022) so this still remains a tough ride to compete with, move to Toyota notwithstanding.

I REALLY hope that LMC and the Wood Brothers aren’t making mistakes with these moves.
1.) It’s good that Nemechek is getting another shot at Cup, but… with the way LMC has been performing (with a few exceptions with Jones)… I’m not confident that this will work right off the bat. I do hope that the team as a whole can improve next year, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Neither one is making mistakes and what brothers are not even making decisions Penske is

2.) As for the Wood Brothers, I hope that this isn’t the beginning of the end for this 74 year old organization. Burton has shown small improvements this year, but if next season doesn’t work out either, I don’t know what the Wood Brothers will do. They’ve been struggling as an organization since 2006, with a few lucky breaks coming from Trevor Bayne and a generational standout in Ryan Blaney putting them back in the playoff picture. Since DiBenedetto left, they’re right back to where they were at the ending of the 2000 decade, struggling to compete. I really don’t want to see this prestigious team die out, but it’s looking like it may be heading that way unfortunately. Let’s hope good things come their way next year.

John Haas September 7, 2023 at 4:05 pm

Ford and Penske are not going to let the wood brothers name just disappear

Harrison Burton definitely deserves another season with the Wood Brothers. Hopefully, he will improve next year.

A year ago I said that Gragson would have a bad time in the 42 due to the 42 Team in house issues and took a beating by my fellow YT Armchair Crew Chiefs. Welp. here we go again. It wasn’t a good guess on my part, it was my recollection of the history of the 42 team ever since Kyle Petty retired from racing. KP had good Petty equipment and great Petty personnel. He ran competitively and won some prestige Cup races. That team has always been a 2nd or 3rd tier team since then.

I really hope the best for JHN. He is a good driver. But until whoever is in charge of Legacy spends the money to fix the quality in personnel, they will just remain a 2nd/3rd tier team no matter who is sitting in the car. Allegedly every team is using the same parts in these Next Gen erector set race cars, so in theory every driver should be in a winning capable car.

Maybe the switch to Toyota will help them put into place the quality help they need to give JHN a car worthy of winning. Guess we’ll find out next season.

I hope Harrison Burton takes a big step forward this year. I think that this year, whilst statistically not much better, has seen some good progress for Harrison. He has been overall more competitive, he has had some good runs, and he is building. If he can get a top 20 next year in the championship I would call that a very good year

It’s easy to forget some of these guys do have prior Cup experience (howbeit in the previous generation car). I think JHN is ready for the #42 ride.
