Don’t understand why the don’t let him finish the season

Get experience for the guy you’re actually invested in since championship hopes are over

There was obviously more than just performance issues. Its also not the best idea to keep people around who know theyre terminated.

During the playoffs he announced that he wasnt going back to the team next season so now that he isnt in playoff contention anymore why have a driver in that wont be there next year when they can bring in a new driver and get them some wheel time

Matty D always seems to get the best out of sub par equipment. This truck is NOT a top truck and he has done better than he should. Also…not like the 21 has lit it up since he left. Would love to see Matt get another decent shot at a decent ride.

maybe he could get a Xfinity ride with Kaulig and split the 16 with dinger in cup

Man Nascar is literally dragging their feet it looks like, with the schedule not coming out in another 2 weeks, the charter agreement. I hope they’ve got those 1st 2 tasks on their priority list, cause they’re focusing on the wrong thing it feels like

The problem with the schedule sounds like the Montreal deal fell apart, so now they’re rushing to figure out what to do with that race. I don’t think they’re dragging their feet, I think they fully intended on having the Montreal race set weeks ago. My opinion, send that race to Road America. – I mean, I’d rather see an added Oval race, but RA wants NASCAR and would be an easy signing.

@JBAlt Auto Club is still there and zero work has been done to dismantle it. They could still technically race there next year if they have no other options, assuming the new owners will allow it.

@Yon Bonjour That won’t be a thing.

DiBenedetto’s best Cup years were with the Wood Brothers, and he almost got them their 100th win on multiple occasions. At this point though, it’s been two years since he’s been in Cup, and despite decent success in the lower series, I don’t know what to think of him. The Rackley War situation doesn’t really help his case for a wanting to hold onto a sustainable ride, and his fallout with the oldest team in the Cup Series doesn’t look that great either. I like him, and I personally hope that he gets a decent chance to rebuild his career, but at this point, I don’t know what will happen, as I think this will be his last chance to rebuild.

Rackley W.A.R. will just go back to a backmarker team now. Not so great decision, isn’t it?

People that calls Matt Dienbenedetto mediocre or a bum needs to realize that he’s never been in top tier equipment before for a full season. He’s proven time and time again that he’s a good driver. People always claim that the 21 was a top tier ride because of the penske alliance but that 21 car hasn’t had a actual strong penske alliance since blaney was in that car. He ran where that was capable and that was 10th-15th. I know Matt isn’t the most liked guy after the whole 2021 deal (even though he apologized for that but people missed that part apparently) but don’t try to sit here and act like he can’t drive. I know if he lands with a top notch team in one of the top 3 series he can win multiple races and maybe be a championship contender. He just needs the actual break which he hasn’t had yet.

How long has he had a ride in NASCAR and what has he done with those rides?
One truck win and almost one Cup win?
That’s not good…imo
Time to move on and start taking care of his family!

He had his shot with Penske

Yon Bonjour September 21, 2023 at 3:54 pm

Why does he keep having messy breakups with his teams? He’s the common thread here and quite frankly, I think we need to stop blaming the teams he’s on and figure out what he’s doing to create these problems. That’s not to say the teams don’t play a role in the breakup, but for this to happen this many times to one driver, it can’t solely be the teams fault.

@Yon Bonjour As far as I know like with him leaving the 32 car or now the 25 truck and not having anything lined up he just gets unhappy and thanks he’s so much better than he is that he can get a better ride But yet he never brings sponsorship

The reason why the 2024 schedule was delayed again is because of the negotiations between NASCAR and Montréal which is going to replace Auto Club according to Bob Pockrass

John Haas September 21, 2023 at 3:46 pm

From stuff I was reading yesterday like from couch racer shop aka Freddy and Brett it’s sounds like the Montreal deal probably isn’t happening and now that sets Ben Kennedy back with the schedule and might have to move dates around again that aren’t finalized

I was vouching for Matt D but him announcing he’s not returning before season is over does not sit well how awkward to have him in the building knowing he wants to part ways. Most teams aren’t going to continue backing you and give you their best resources if you are leaving the team. Definitely needs to have learned his lesson and wait until the season ends he had hurt his reputation

This reminds me of the chaos surrounding Sprint’s departure as presenting sponsor of the Cup Series. Sprint gave NASCAR over a year’s notice, so there was plenty of time to find a new sponsor. But BZF ordered his negotiators to ask for a 10-year deal at $1B overall, or $100M a season. However, there were no takers at that price-point. With time running out and the final Sprint-sponsored season drawing to a close, BZF hastily agreed to $20M annual deal with Monster Energy that was only year-to-year. This year’s situation seems similar for NASCAR, but now it involves the all-important TV deals & charter renewals. I hope this ends well, but it is not looking good at this time.

Matt Dibenedetto is the Conor Daly of NASCAR (for you IndyCar fans out there). Always seems to do a decent job with average at best equipment, but there has to be something behind the scenes with him. He’s kinda like the utility player in baseball who becomes a cult hero for a season or two and fades rather quickly. He’s good enough to be in a NASCAR seat, but there’s always someone younger and/or more well funded coming up.

Didn’t the owner of the team plan on putting his son in the truck next year? This situation is mostly on himself, he said he was leaving at the end of the season. Now that he’s out of the playoffs, there’s no reason to keep in the truck now.

Don’t tell people your leaving, then say your shocked when they move on before your ready. Matty D. Made a bad business decision when he announced he was leaving. This will hurt future contract negotiations because he has proven he cant act in a profesional manner when in negotiations.

I’m gonna say that Nascar could be taking so long on the schedule cause it could be a big one. We could possibly be getting some very surprising tracks that Nascar is trying to order the correct way

Could be but Montreal’s been a big holdup Plus you got the two week summer break for the stupid f****** Olympics

This doesn’t necessarily mean anyone did anything wrong or something nefarious happened. They are out of the playoffs and can start working on building for next season. Not unusual.

The DiBenedetto situation reminds me of when Reed Sorenson was let go by Turner Motorsports late into the Xfinity Series season when he was still in contention for the championship

Erik Rasmussen September 21, 2023 at 4:52 pm

One thing that people need to consider when talking about Matty D, is that no driver right before or right after him in a team has done better than him. Period.

Griffin Fuller September 21, 2023 at 5:05 pm

The frustrating thing about the schedule delays is that tracks are reaching out for ticket renewals. How can a fan renew their ticket if they don’t know when the race is going to be
