Bold prediction: MTJ is going to be the first regular season champion to be bounced out of the Round of 12
@Dieter LangeIt can happen but we’ll see. This is the wildcard round after all. I’m probably going to expect a complete wipeout of the field at one of these tracks (I’m looking at you Talladega)

If kyle larson doesn’t have a electrical issue at Charlotte like the last 2 years he will probably advance.
I think it may be impossible to predict. The points are close enough this year that no one is safe. And, Truex proved that even the top is vulnerable in the last round.
NGL as a Byron Fan I am Worried since he has been inconsistent. and He may be a Round of 12 Exit

I’d say it’s too hard to pick in this round before it starts. I don’t expect Wallace to move on. Everyone else it’s completely up to who has bad luck/attrition/DNFs

Im feel for ya Eric cuz trying to predict this round is beyond difficult. Especially When you have talladega and the next gen car where the grid is closer
Yes brisco advanced to round of 8 last year but I think I remember Custer was holding up traffic for him to gain a couple points and got penalized for it
Those picks largely mirror my own. I will say, though, I’m not prepared to rule out Chastain or Bubba pulling off the upset. I don’t think Keslowski is worried about himself as much as his teammate, and Busch just hasn’t shown up lately, so they’re easy picks. But, Bubba usually runs well at Talladega if he can stay out of trouble, and Chastain has shown that he can do a lot with a little. I could also see Truex crashing and burning if he gets caught up in his own head. So, we’ll see.
you know this round is interesting. I think this is a round where we could see 3 non-playoff drivers win all 3 in this round. Who of the non-playoff drivers do you see having the best shot at upsetting and getting a win?
Kyle has done well at tracks that Tyler Reddick won/did well at last year in the 8 car. I expect Texas might be a good race for them if they can get the setup correct right off the truck.
Talladega is a huge wild card. Bubba could very well win that race & become the first 16th seed to advance to the round of 8.

IMO it’s the 6/8/12/23 that go out this round. The 1/5/11/19/20/24/45 are the 7 on pace to get 200 stage points this year which is a historical requirement to make the Final 4, and of the other 5 Buescher has the most playoff points.
Dale Jr was the only commentator to pick Ryan Blaney to go to the Championship 4 and honestly he could win the next week’s and put himself in a good spot to advance. He is a sleeper pick to go to the final 4 but I agree it could happen
Blaney should make it now that he’s got the entire Penske organization behind him
4:02 I don’t know that MTJ can have a solid weekend this weekend. Or the next few weeks honestly. With Sherry passing away and all the social media noise that has come with it, I just hope he’s ok. I would imagine he’s got to be off emotionally right now.

Texas is a good track for him though. Just hasn’t been able to breakthrough an win. Talladega is probably his worst and the Roval he’s done well there before.

Bubba’s point deficit isn’t really big. He has shown he can overperform to eliminate deficits. His pit crew is his biggest hurdle. His biggest threats are really only the top 7, his pit crew, and a Dega wreck. I definitely wouldn’t count Bell out. I will not be shocked if he starts doing better than the last playoffs. He just needs more patience in races. He drives like he’s dirt racing sometimes too much.
Being the wild card round and this being one of the most evenly matched playoff fields in history, this is absolutely unpredictable
