Why A Daytona NASCAR Finale Is INEVITABLE

Visit the New Merch Store Here:

The Daytona International Speedway is the World Center of Racing, it is the site of the biggest race in NASCAR in the Daytona 500, and it is probably the most famous track the series goes to that has its fame built from NASCAR history. With that being said much of the talk for the last few weeks has been where Daytona is on the 2024 NASCAR schedule. The biggest I saw was Denny Hamlin, but I think that the conversation will get crazier i the coming years. I think that Daytona will one day be the NASCAR season finale, it seems crazy now but so to did the elimination style NASCAR Playoffs back in January of 2014, so to did a "Chase format" in 2003. Thus is why a NASCAR finale at Daytona is inevitable.

Do you think NASCAR will go to Daytona for the finale one day? Why or why not and would you want that to even happen?

i would hope not but a track i would like to see the finale at (which would never happen) is charlotte (not the road course)

Bring ‘em back to Homestead.

I doubt it would ever happen but I would LOVE for it to happen

Atlanta or Homestead

Daytona as the NASCAR championship race? I don’t see that happening. I think it’s better to have Daytona as the opener and Homestead at the finale.

Just like the old days, unfortunately NASCAR has their head in the clouds, and insist that Phoenix (an SMI track) is the better track than Homestead (one of their own tracks) for a championship, when it’s been proven otherwise

NASCAR ending their seasons with Daytona is a bad idea. Personally, I’d rather have the finale be at a track that’s more driver oriented unlike Daytona which is essentially a lottery.

I agree, it would be a horrible idea. Some of the comments in this thread are embarrassing

Unless only the final 4 race at Daytona, it’s a lottery drawing indeed

Jebediah Gentry October 11, 2023 at 1:16 am

I agree. Could you imagine how long it would take them to do the last five laps?

Reply
Jeff Luce October 11, 2023 at 1:29 am

I agree, but I’m a traditional fan. The industry doesn’t appeal to us anymore it’s more to the average fan, and the average fan wants to see more and more action. Don’t like it but it’s the evolution of stock car racing

am i the only one who thinks a Charlotte finale would be incredible?

Reply
The Iceberg October 11, 2023 at 12:12 am

It would and I’m all for it. Unfortunately I don’t see NASCAR and ISC giving a big date away to SMI.

@The Iceberg:(

Also, the Roval configuration is a problem in and of itself. Also we don’t know if drivers are willing to drive 600 miles as the finale

Reply
Timmy Rohlfs October 11, 2023 at 1:01 am

@S.KullRandom In a perfect world I would see a 500 miler on the oval, trade dateswith the Phoenix race.

It would fittingly crazy if they had Daytona to start it all and then end it all. That sort of season finale would be chaotic because a big wreck and things out of the driver’s control would happen. Daytona has always been the big season opener. For it to be a season finale would be nuts.

Reply
Grandpa Shark October 11, 2023 at 3:07 am

It would be all those things. It would not crown the best driver.

Reply
Edelpog October 11, 2023 at 4:22 pm

The championship would actually be meaningless they may as well get the top ten in points and spin the wheel to see who’s champion

I have the same feeling on this. I’m OK with it as the regular season finale but would prefer it on July 4 again but that won’t happen.

Reply
S.KullRandom October 11, 2023 at 12:57 am

Why? The July 4th weekend being unlikely, I mean

Reply
NAPARacingFan 927 October 11, 2023 at 1:07 am

@S.KullRandom Because Daytona doesn’t want it on July 4 sadly. Regular season finale is ok. Championship race is a big no no.

Reply
TwinSpinner October 11, 2023 at 2:39 am

@S.KullRandomThe city of Daytona Beach doesn’t want it July 4th anymore, since after the race moved, the city basically gained a second holiday tourist weekend

Gotta be honest, why not move the finale to Vegas? It’s got the chance to have some good racing (compared to Phoenix). And considering how the sports market is growing there, sounds like a good mix.

Reply
The Iceberg October 11, 2023 at 12:15 am

I’d like that way better, but NASCAR and ISC probably will never give the finale up to SMI.

@TheIceberg  Sad but true

Boiler Coasters October 11, 2023 at 12:20 am

I’m honestly not a fan of Daytona moving to the finale because it would only focus on the 4 drivers competing for the championship and not the underdog drivers that superspeedway tracks like Daytona cater to. Imagine someone like Riley Herbst or Corey Lajoie winning the season finale at Daytona but the cameras are all focused on the championship 4 racing for 5th. That would take away from the point of a superspeedway race.

Kevin Littrell October 11, 2023 at 12:28 am

I think we’d legit see a driver strike if that happened.

Reply
I’m Dirty Dan October 11, 2023 at 12:39 am

If this were to happen, which I don’t think it will, all 4 championship drivers will probably haphazardly run in the back all race

Reply
S.KullRandom October 11, 2023 at 1:01 am

Unless if only the 4 drivers are the only cars on the track

Reply
ROGERRRR PENSKEEEEEEEEE! October 11, 2023 at 1:49 am

This would make the already joke of a system even more of a joke, and I thought that was impossible lol. I might honestly finally just not be able to take it anymore, and have to walk away.

i still think homestead was a good finale race i dont remember people complaining about it but maybe they did idk but to me it was the best finale track because it was well rounded not too big not too small good speeds like i get why they went to phoenix but in terms of good racing homestead was good but if Nascar wants absolute chaos i mean imagine the final 4 all taken out in 1 wreck like that would just be too stupid just why

Reply
Jarrett Grigg October 11, 2023 at 12:59 am

Honestly Homestead is the best for the final race in my opinion

Reply
Racing Guy 2448 October 11, 2023 at 1:00 am

If they want Daytona as the finale at that point they should spin a wheel at the end of the regular season to decide all the spots in the playoffs besides most points and wins

Reply
BSH October 11, 2023 at 1:48 am

Daytona is, in my opinion, is in a perfect situation right now being the season opener and the regular season finale. NASCAR shouldn’t and won’t move Daytona to the season finale, because if they wanted to, they would have done it already, but they haven’t because they know it won’t work and fans don’t want it

Reply
TambourLand October 11, 2023 at 10:42 am

To be fair there are a lot of things they’ve done that they knew the fans never wanted

Reply
Stormix October 11, 2023 at 2:04 am

Auto Club should be the finale.

It’s the obvious choice, one of the best racing tracks on the Next Gen, good weather, and a good market

Also it was the finale in Pixar’s Cars movie (although the original finale in the movie was Bristol which would be insane in a bad way).

I think even NASCAR would be smart enough to see that’s a horrible idea. It’s too unpredictable with heavy reliance on drafting and a big one can easily take out all 4 finalists.

Abacus October 11, 2023 at 2:04 pm

Season Finale NEEDS to be Charlotte. Home of Nascar, and it gives ALL the team members and employees to be there, especially if one of their cars wins

A Daytona finale will, seriously, be the moment I finally bow out as a viewer.

Realistic Fish Head October 11, 2023 at 5:22 am

Honestly I’d still be pretty surprised if they have the championship race at Daytona, I really don’t think NASCAR wants to have the possibility of dealing with the embarrassment of having the Championship 4 taken out in a wreck 10 laps in, or only having one left on track at the checkered flag. I think the main reason NASCAR likes the Phoenix finale is because there aren’t usually a lot of cars taken out in wrecks and the odds of all four drivers still being in the race at the finish are pretty high.
