NASCAR has raced at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for over 25 years now and in that time has become a staple of the NASCAR Cup Series schedule. With generally good racing and memorable moments there are a large amount of fans who now look forward to these races. For many though one stands out above the rest when it comes to memorability and that of course is the lone 2016 race at the Nevada track. Between great racing, a fun finish, and some of the wackiest weather ever for a NASCAR race how could anybody forget? So today we are going to look back at the weirdest Las Vegas NASCAR race.

What are some of the craziest NASCAR races or moments that you remember?
Bubba Wallace wrecking Kyle Larson on purpose without permission
The Hail Melon of course
McDowell Supremacy!
i think this one you said tops it off
2007 Daytona 500 finish when Bowyer was upside down across the line.
Ah yes, the wind race at Las Vegas. I loved watching it live. The pre-race festivities with the wind were hilarious to watch.
Man, I remember when the 2020 Texas race got postponed to Tuesday or Wednesday don’t remember what day. Edit Tuesday and Clint Bowyer led for hours.
I thought the race finished Wednesday night. And this is when they tried to run on Monday I believe and Kevin Harvick wrecked and eventually missed the championship 4
That was the mist problem. It wasn’t raining technically but it was misting so hard it would drench the track so fast
It was moved to Wednesday…
@Gav MillzNo, it started on Sunday. He crashed before the race was delayed.
who knew that 6 years later, we’d see snow at Vegas. Weird weather I tell ya
I was at this race, I remember me and my dad had been freezing our butts off. My dad also made a comment to bring sunglasses and I told him no cuz it’s cloudy, I regretted that decision when the sandstorm came
One of the best 1.5 mile races of the gen 6 era
I remember this race. The race literally felt like a monsoon hit the track. It was crazy.
I remember that. That was wild. The 2014 Vegas spring race will always be stuck in my mind the most because of how heartbreaking the finish was for the 88 and Dale Jr.
I was at that race. It was the second race that I was at that Dale Jr finished second
@David Reece 2011 Coke 600 was bad enough. I didn’t need a repeat of that. He could’ve had up to 40 wins if some luck went his way.
I remember that race as a 14 year old. I was ready for the race to be red-flagged, but nope. Mother Nature thought she could win that day
I love how during the sandstorm darned ‘sandstorm’ was playing in the background
Never have watched the whole race
But as you began, the only thing I needed to know was “this was the race where Cole Pearn got attack by a car cover”
I remember that. When does sandstorm was going on, I wasn’t sure why NASCAR didn’t throw the caution
2013/2019 Chicagoland and 2014 Brickyard are the weirdest races I’ve attended weather wise
My least favorite of the overtime changes happened over a six month period. To start, they removed the overtime line, killing any chance of a driver coming to the caution flag to win a race a la Dale @ Daytona 98. (This not long after Byron did just that at Daytona July 250.) Then effective speedweeks, the three-attempt limit was gone. On the first Xfinity return to daytona, e spent well over an hour on FIVE overtime finishes. Frustrating to me as a college radio DJ as my show was cutting it dangerously close to airtime at the top of the hour.
The Chicago Street Race this year was real crazy the wind and a hole lot of rain watching the tires floating down pit lane.
Super excited for Vegas! It will be my first race!
I just don’t think it can get much weirder than the 2012 Daytona 500
