It only has one nut holding it on the car so if it’s not completely tight enough, than it is going to come off ?

Yup. If the hub doesn’t lock into place, it’s 1-3 laps until the wheel comes off.

I kinda wanted the explanation as to why the rim split.

Cranberry Man October 15, 2023 at 10:50 pm

I think it’s because the caliper can slice the rim if it comes off, the announcer said it right after this clip. Hope this helps

@Cranberry Manso probably a caliper bolt came off?

Reply
Cranberry Man October 16, 2023 at 3:10 am

@Manuel Salvatierra They think what happened was the car was dropped before the left front wheel could be tightened properly, so the car dropped onto the wheel. And either the brake caliper or rotor were the first thing to touch the wheel after that so the wheel just got cut in two since the car was at speed

*wry look* Tires and lugnuts have been problems for the entire racing history. On the last-gen cars, NASCAR made crazy rules changes after Tony Stewart popped off about lugnut and tire safety. He got a $35k fine, and then new rules about loose lugnuts came.
