2024 might be Martin’s last year as a driver
I wouldn’t be surprised if that were to happen.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Truex is out next year
I feel bad for the guy he’s still a great driver but his CC and team have really dropped the ball these playoffs
He has confirmed he is coming back for at least a year.
F1 will never have the foothold that NASCAR has in America
All we they have is COTA
@MegaMr46F1 has 3 races in the United States. More than any other country.
Hey General, there were 432,000 paid spectators at the Grand Prix of Austin this past weekend. Tickets are insanely expensive too.
Most F1 races draw those kind of numbers.
F1 has a Max Verstappen problem.
I honestly think Truex just needs the offseason to grieve. He surely hasnt been able to properly do that the way he wants after Sherry passed. Regardless of their status.
On the other hand, Truex seems like a guy who prefers to have things to distract him. I’m one of those people. I dont want to sit around and grieve, I want to be distracted.
@JBAltI respectfully disagree. When you lose a loved one, you have to endure that pain to have any chance of overcoming it. Grief hits everyone differently. Distractions help to an extent but when he’s laying down to sleep at night, there’s no distractions. He has to accept the loss of his former partner. It’s hard. I say this as someone who just lost my little brother before he turned 25.
@Young Sinatra There’s nothing to disagree with. You handle loss in your way, and not everyone deals with it the same as you. We all get through in our own ways.
And “acceptance” is different. You can accept a loss while keeping yourself distracted. The more you’re able to keep your mind occupied, the easier it can be to get through. But its not a one-size-fits-all situation. Everyone handles things differently.
His grieving led to a bad pit strategy 2 races ago
@JBAlt I hear the point you’re making. I definitely don’t want to mob in my sorrows either. We both said it. Grief hits us all in different ways.
Perhaps we are seeing Truex going through these motions in real time. I wish the best for him. He’s a real heart on his sleeve type of guy. I respect that a lot.
Notice how most drivers that leave JGR end up being much happier.
Some yes. Some no. Depends on the your type of person.
For real jgr has some issues that we don’t hear much about
I think bell wants out
@feeb Especially since he can’t run sprint cars
@shmeeve I think bell wants to Stay but wants Joe to let him dirt race or have someone with power to let him.
This isn’t me being a nascar fanboy but I’ve been talking to all my friends who got into F1 because of driver to survive and then had that marvelous 2021 F1 season, everyone this year has stopped talking to me about F1 and when I ask em why, they all say because it boring now, F1 had a flash in the pan moment, it drew in the casual fans but hasn’t offered enough to make them stay and we’re seeing that now
If these nu-fans brought along by Shitflix productions did even so much as cursory research, they’d know that the default expectation for F1 in the V6TH era is to be a mind numbing slurpfest. The 2021 season was the exception to the rule (said rule being “Mercedes Wins Lol” for over 85% of the races up to that point). Like all casual sports fans, they’ll stop paying attention once the shiny thing becomes irrelevant. We’re seeing the similar kind of processes NASCAR went through being repeated by Liberty Media era F1.
@Sulphurous I’ve been saying the same thing for years and nobody listened to me
Well, it doesn’t help when the same guy keeps winning race after race, having one guy and one team winning is boring… NASCAR does a better job with different teams and different winners
And this is why a lot of the DTS fans are being called fake fans. It’s all good to like the sport when it’s an interesting season, but don’t go calling yourself an F1 fan when it isn’t as exciting of a season and you switch off and lose interest. True NASCAR fans didn’t turn off during the Jimmie Johnson domination, or 2003 when Kenseth ran away with it. True F1 fans watched through Schumacher, Vettel, and Hamilton’s reign, V8 Supercars fans continued watching despite the fact that 2 teams have won 13 of the last 15 championships, 14 of the last 15 constructors championships as well.
This is why F1 fans are getting fed up with the newer fans. And it’s also why existing fans are getting pissed off with F1. They cater too much to keeping new fans interested when they will lose some, meanwhile long-time fans are losing access to races as tickets sell out in 40 minutes despite getting the earliest early access…
@American WalmartsSame reason nascar lost a lot of viewers. JJ started the decline
I genuinely think truex regrets he made his announcement to return next year. The past 8 weeks are the worst I’ve seen truex’s morale since his first year at furniture row.
I’m 64 and have been watching Nascar for many years but F1 is really growing on me. Where F1 has it over Nascar is no commercials during the race and none of the nonsense you see during a Nascar race….endless commercial breaks…stage racing etc. The other day I watched the F1 race and then switched over to my recording of the Nascar race. That way I could fast forward past all the ads and other stuff that detracts from the race.
The commercials are ridiculous in NASCAR I mean fighting for the lead and we go side by side or some BS. WTF!!
Makes it so hard to stay tuned in when every 5 min it’s another break in the action then you come back 4-10 laps later.
@iiCoNxNC Yep…I never watch live anymore. I just record it and wait a couple of hours to start watching.
If F1 had commercials, I wonder how many people would change the channel during the first break and not come back. Whenever I see people talking positively about F1, it’s usually about the commercial-free coverage and not the sport itself.
@NexTuPif you didn’t have those commercials you wouldn’t have live nascar on tv.
If Truex comes back next year, I think he will have a new crew chief.
I hope so
i would love to see james small and adam stevens swap spots personally but i don’t think they’d do that to bell, his team would be so good if they could find a little more consistency overall
Betcha Truex misses Cole Pearn. Small has seriously been part of MTJ’s slide.
Totally agree
Honestly, even if Truex somehow made the final four, I’d bet absolutely nothing on him winning the title. Even if he led Martinsville flag-to-flag and lapped everyone five times over, that still wouldn’t make up for how completely dead his momentum has been this entire postseason. He definitely needs a new crew chief for sure. It pains me to say all this, but despite that regular season title, this playoff run was a disaster from the start. If anything, I think I preferred last year when he missed the playoffs entirely, because at least then the pain was contained in that one dreary August day and not two entire months of misery. Heck, I can’t even try coping by propping any hypothetical season-long points titles anymore because the past two months have been such a trainwreck that even that kind of title has slipped well out of reach for him. Combine that with Shirley’s passing and now I just feel so bad for Martin at this point. I don’t want to count out Truex career-wise (he’s better at silencing the “career over” people than most in NASCAR history), but if he decides to hang it up sooner than later, than by now I would not blame him at all.
I mean, at least Hamlin’s imploding again too. And Bell’s locked in so really, while JGR could be making me a whole lot happier right now, they could also be making me feel at least a little worse.
I really hope Truex wins Martinsville to help boost his morale. That or have a good race to advance to the final four.
I would believe the race being at Homestead made an impact on the viewership. I made a point to not miss this race. This has become a must see race, along with Kansas
I said something similar to this a few weeks ago, and I’m sure of it now. It’s time for Truex and Small to part ways. It’s clear to me that with the amount of pressure on their shoulders, and with how things have been very up and down since the start of the new decade for them both that it’s time for a change. Truex needs a new crew chief in order to have a fresh start in what maybe the final stretch of his career, and Small needs a new driver to work with to maintain a level of consistency within the organization. Things have been good between them for a good while, but now that they aren’t able to adapt to the ever changing landscape as a unit as well as they used to, a new set-up is needed.
I had F1 on my tv and watched NASCAR in a discord call with five other guys, one of which was streaming the race so the rest of us could see.
I think a good NASCAR game would help bring in some new and younger viewers, I’m glad we have a good chance at getting one in 2025.
Never underestimate the power of grief and everyone deals with it differently! When everything is going well it makes it a little easier and when its not it makes it more difficult!
First off, killer shirt Eric!
The a Truex situation is a tough one. I know he’s frustrated, and has had terrible calls, pit stops, and luck since the playoffs started. He’s still an amazing driver.
What do you think next year will look like though? I can’t imagine Small or that pit crew stays after the implosion they’ve caused over the last 8 races.
I don’t think Truex’s frustration in the moment is anything to worry over. I would be frustrated too if my playoffs have gone as poorly as they have for him. But if he does somehow decide to leave, I would feel kind of bad for John Hunter. Dude waited patiently for Truex to decide his future before committing to his. In that case, who’s in the 19 next year?
