What a race! Even with that final 200 lap green flag run it was very interesting! Great race!
As a Blaney and Larson fan, I’m really excited for this Championship race. I feel like next year will be Hamlin’s last shot at a title
I think this year was his last shot at it!
Same
Even though I’m a fan of both Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott as well, just due to the fact that Denny Hamlin is gonna be 44 next year, I’ll root for him in that regard. I dunno how much longer Denny Hamlin has left in the tank to be a championship caliber.
@Diane H.hope you’re right
I was so scared for Byron that entire race. Thank the lord he made it and didn’t pull a Harvick 2020 moment.
I don’t think I breathed the entire final stage
Same man, same
Yeah I couldn’t breathe for a while! I’m so glad Willy B made it!
My heart was beating fast for the next 45 minutes after the race had ended
Same here. I literally up a candle. Thats what we do here in Mexico city
i can’t remember a martinsville race this good in recent memory. blaney climbing through the field in stage 1 was really special. the fact we had passing on the outside made this unique. i hope this bodes well for phoenix next week too.
edit: i give it more than 75. blaney’s exciting charge, almirola’s near-storybook ending, that exciting blaney/hamlin restart duel, rudy fugle’s pep talks, a second groove and passing on the outside at martinsville!! at least an 80 from me.
Last year? Idk this race had more passing but there was a little more tension and more cars around the cut line. And one of the greatest moments in nascar history
Next Gen car doesn’t like cold weather for whatever reason, so the sun being out and being a warm day helped
What also helped was the new tire Goodyear brought to the track
@automan224agreed, i think goodyear hit a home run. maybe the warm temperatures were the real factor but either way i loved it. that camera angle where they stuck on one spot in the corner, and you could see each individual car influencing the rubber situation on the surface was A+.
2015 when Kennseth took out Logono, then Gordon got his emotional final win
So happy Blaney won and glad Byron beat out Hamlin for the last spot! Can’t wait for Phoenix!
I think they need a camera on Erin Blaney hopefully cheering for both her brother and her longtime boyfriend. As a Blaney fan I don’t really want to compete against Byron, but as a race fan I’m glad Denny didn’t make it. Now he can cry on his podcast
@Kristen White100% agree with you.
@Kristen White I personally think the girlfriend cam is the most annoying. Unless it’s showing them after they’re driver crashes lol
I’ll be honest, that race was better than I expected. Especially since NASCAR gave the Cup series new tires to help the racing which actually made a difference. Now they just need to tackle the other issues that plague them on short tracks
Blaney really drove the race of his life.
I’m actually not a fan of his.
But anyone saying he wasn’t that great is either blind or lying to themselves .
He was the class of the field today.
@DC322 Ugh. KP says so many dumb things haha
@Douglas young That’s probably the best car I’ve ever seen him have in any race. Last year’s Phoenix race was pretty close. Hopefully they have the same sort of car for next week!
@Nomad Man
I’d say Penske also stepped up to the plate along with Blaneys entire crew.
These people never receive Enough credit.
But he definitely wheeled that car today.
I actually don’t care for the guy, but he is clearly Championship caliber
I believe it was the first race in his career that Byron had an onboard camera
That’s what I’ve never understood, with all of his wins this year, they never broadcasted him in car
Hey, it obviously didn’t work, so take it off the car and never put one back on
I think since he was one of the drivers racing for the championship 4 all other except Chris Buescher who i don’t think had one on
How is that even possible???
I’m pretty sure he had an onboard camera a few times during his rookie season.
What I like about the final 4, they are all 4 clean drivers, aggressive, but clean. They didn’t run over everyone to get there.
Except larson. Larson just runs over himself sometimes hahah. Love the dude. Idolize him even. But man. Checkers or wreckers.
Yup
I’d disagree about Larson. He drives over his head, sometimes. Skilled to a tee, but every now and then he’s a menace.
it was a multigroove track! they were making passes on the outside! this is a huge step forward for short tracks!
Blaney is having the best year of his career. He’s picking up momentum, he’s fighting a bit harder for positions as well as defending them, and he had a race winning car last year at Phoenix. I really think this could be his break out year and finally hoist that cup !
Congratulations to all four remaining playoff contenders. Ryan deserves to be there. Drove a great race.
Finally, a next gen short track race that was not a bore. That was a good race, and fun to watch.
I was at this race in person and seeing my favorite driver burton clawing his way up to 15th was absolutely amazing
Yeah I was there also. I noticed he did a good job. He drove hard. Good day for him
I was there too, Got to see my driver win. Harrison Burton helped Blaney out a little bit at one point when he let Blaney by and held Hamlin up.
I literally forgot a Burton raced
