Missing Rings: Denny Hamlin 2023

Denny Hamlin just may end up being the best driver in NASCAR history to never win a NASCAR Cup Series championship. His numbers are easily first ballot Hall of Fame worthy and he's won multiple Daytona 500s in this time as well. But in this time he has accrued more missing rings than just about any other driver and has now been put fully into the conversation for this title with Mark Martin. So today we look back at the 35 races that Hamlin has completed. This is missing rings: Denny Hamlin 2023.

Do you think Denny will ever win a title?

Yes in 2024

2024 is gonna be his last shot I feel
He’s getting up there in age

I agree

Truex threw his season with Toyotas and JGRs help, because they wanted Denny Hamlin to win his championship. Hamlin will never win a championship!

It hurts but it’s true

I genuinly feel for Martin Truex JR, wish this season could’ve been better for ’em

He should retire

Reply
JackCSports October 31, 2023 at 8:22 pm

This feels like it was one of his last shots to win a title
Bobby Allison won one when he was Denny’s age or older I think but that was a different era

Reply
JackCSports October 31, 2023 at 8:24 pm

I feel that Denny needs to stop getting himself caught in issues with other drivers
It seems like it gets too much in his head instead of focusing on the main prize
But that’s just my opinion

OK, we can arm chair quarterback all day, but I certainly wouldn’t be too fussed to finish my career with 50+ wins and no Cup. I seems ultimately Denny puts on a face that he feels the same. Despite the $$ that comes with the championship in this format, it just doesnt hold the weight that it used to, to pretty much anyone.

he choked because of a mechanical failure at homestead

The Denny cycle continues

Season starts > win in controversial fashion > fans get their hopes up > “THIS IS HIS YEAR” > choke in the Round of 8

Even with embracing the villain role, fate still caught up to Hamlin. As long as we have the win and you’re in format he’ll always be in contention, but with the new generation taking over it’s going to be harder and harder.

A lesson learned after Bristol is Never call your shot too early

“I beat your favorite driver” is calling your shots?

Reply
Cito Browne October 31, 2023 at 9:30 pm

@Tackletuesdayfishing  I’m talking about when he said “It’s our year” after that win

Reply
ElimiNati0n1 October 31, 2023 at 9:31 pm

Yeah, he jinxed himself.

Reply
Tackle Tuesday Fishing October 31, 2023 at 9:35 pm

@Cito Browne guess he should have said “we just won, but I don’t think we can win a championship” .

Rob Johnston November 1, 2023 at 2:49 pm

That’s really what happened here for real lol

Ah yes. The yearly Missing Rings: Denny Hamlin video. Can’t wait until this video is out next year.

Reply
Dale Miller October 31, 2023 at 10:32 pm

Watching him not win a title every year is as close as I’ll get to being a ‘72 Dolphin… especially last years elimination.

Jorge Joel Hernández October 31, 2023 at 9:21 pm

Hamlin has nothing to be ashamed of. Harvick had that lone title in 2014, but never won one after that, coming close several times. Winning a title is so rare that there are only two active drivers with multiple rings. Denny is a first ballot hall of famer, great career with many crown jewels.

NASCARFAN93100 October 31, 2023 at 11:49 pm

Harvick was more deserving of 2010, 2015, 2016 & 2020 than 2014

Reply
Jeremiah Evans November 1, 2023 at 1:45 am

@NASCARFAN93100very true, 2014 was Gordon’s year

@Jeremiah Evans Yes It Was

Reply
Hunter NixonFishing November 1, 2023 at 3:51 pm

Harvick would have 4 championships under the latford style format

Reply
Milton Valenzuela, Jr October 31, 2023 at 9:40 pm

Shocker he didn’t make the final four. He fell off slightly after Bristol while everyone else raised their game. Calling his own shot just adds more scrutiny to his Round of 8 exit and another lost title

Reply
Darkbreaker97 October 31, 2023 at 11:12 pm

“I beat your favorite driver”
“Who would that be?”
“All of them.”
That’s gotta be one of the best roasts in motorsports.

Love this missing rings series and as much as much as it pains me to say I think one is due for MTJ cause what in the ever living you know what happened in the playoffs

Reply
SuperUlGa October 31, 2023 at 11:37 pm

Hamlin 3:16 says “I just beat your favorite driver…”

Hamlin 3:17 says “but I lost another championship.”

“This is where I would put my trophy. *IF I HAD ONE!!!”*

-Denny, probably.

In all seriousness, though, I kinda feel bad for the guy. I’m no Denny defender, but he’s gotten so close to the title on so many occasions that it’ll feel massively deserved if/when he ever actually gets it.

Reply
jamie thornton November 1, 2023 at 10:38 am

He has 51 trophies, so I don’t think that’s an issue for him. If you have a cabinet for “Championship trophies”, yeah. But the dude has collected a lot of hardware along the way.

Reply
SovietOnion November 1, 2023 at 1:19 pm

@jamie thornton.

Yeah, that’s a fair point. I was just quoting the original source.

Reply
Joseph Phillippe November 1, 2023 at 2:08 am

Lot of people saying he choked like the car breaking was his fault somehow. He would have been in the final 4 easy without that.

The video every NASCAR YouTuber makes about Hamlin since 2006. Hopefully the streak continues No matter if Denny was the good guy (which he was back in the day) or the bad guy, his fate is the same every single year.

Denny fan here. He always has the worst luck but performs solid usually always. I’m just hoping he gets one Championship before he retires. 51 wins in the cup series is an incredible thing to have too though
