What races are you gonna watch this off-season?
2008 Dover Fall race is really entertaining
2002 Pepsi 400 at Michigan
The entire 1984 and 1996 Seasons
Love the list! I’d argue that the 2007 Daytona 500 should at least get an honorable mention. To this day, I watch it and still hope Martin can hold off Harvick
Just watched that one! What a race.
Was it really that great of a race or just a great finish?
The race made me a diehard fan
I was already a fan but that made me obsessed
It had a great finish, the other 90 percent of the race sucked balls in my opinion! I would just watch the last 5 to 10 laps of that race and that’s it and I am being generous
@John the Falcon I agree the race is overrated. Until Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch wrecked it was a snoozer.
I think people should watch the 2004 Ford 400. Besides it being the final race of the first Chase system, it had some of the most exciting racing I’ve ever watched even though I was 2 years old at the time of the race. I will always remember Kurt Busch’s tire coming off, comeback, and that nail-biting finish.
For those of you whole like green flag runs and multigroove racing, check out the 2012 Samsung Mobile 500 – just 2 cautions all race and a 234 lap green run to the checkered.
I was there, I had free tickets. Only highlight was Biffle passing Johnson. There wsa a lot of high winds that day, front blowing in, which is what made it such a single-file race.
My Personal Favorites I recommend:
– 2001 Talladega 500
– 2001 Kansas
– 2002 Aaron’s 499
– 2003 Sharpie 500
– 2004 Kansas
– 2005 Subway 500
– 2006 Food City 500
– 2006 Watkins Glen
– 2006 Kansas
– 2007 Atlanta Spring race
– 2007 Brickyard 400
– 2007 Watkins Glen
– 2007 Dickies 500
– 2008 Martinsville Spring
– 2008 Richmond fall race
– Any Talladega race from 2010
– 2010 Atlanta cup races
– 2011 Tums Fast Relief 500
– 2012 Hollywood Casino 400
– 2013 Martinsviole fall
– 2014 Talladega fall
– 2016 Atlanta
– 2016 Dover spring
– 2020 Talladega fall
All classic races that are forgotten about over time
Every so often, i watch a few of the mid 2000s Talladega races, mainly 2003 races and 2004 fall. The race in 2003 spring had that HUGE crash on lap 4. Even after knocking out 20 cars, the 23 car field had some exciting racing and moments. Fall 2003 had Sadlers flip into 3 and Michael Waltrip winning. Fall 2004, Jr took 2 tires on a late caution and went from like 6th to 1st in a couple laps. Sadler flipped again coming to the checkered, then Jr cursed in victory lane.
Classic stuff. 🙂
Yup, 7 wins by DEI don’t mean $#!+ when RCR won there 10 times (and not the 1st time one would cuss on national TV, remember the GIANT-ARSE SPOILERS)
1997 Southern 500. Watching Jeff Gordon struggle all day, but finding a way to win the race and win the Winston Million.
Jeff’s team worked on that car all day with the changing weather. they got him to the front and his car wasn’t handling as well as Jarrett and Burton in the last 50 laps, and he even hit the wall with about 50 or so to go, driving so hard to stay in front of Jarrett
@Jonathan Grey very true! He even had to door slam with Burton on the final lap a little bit too
I’ve been watching every Daytona 500 race ever since Winter 2019 (NASCAR Cup Series-wise) as tradition to get ready for the Daytona 500!
November is Talladega month for me, but Thanksgiving is always reserved for the 2000 Talladega 500 (October)
Black Friday is the 2001-2003 EA Sports 500s
December is Daytona month, Christmas Eve is when I watch the Pepsi 400 from 2001, followed by Budweiser’s tribute to Dale Jr
January is California month this offseason, in honor of the 26 years of racing it offered. That’s all…
2012 Daytona 500. Monday night race because of a rainout, potential for weather throughout the race so the racing was very intense, and Juan Montoya hitting the jet dryer which almost resulted in the biggest upset in modern NASCAR history.
Not to mention the tweet seen around the world.
To me, this is a cornerstone race for modern NASCAR. This race had a major impact on the sport that I feel like not many other races have had since then.
Also, bonus points for the Budweiser Shootout the week prior. Top notch superspeedway racing.
That was the first race I ever saw. Greatest thing I had ever seen.
Obviously the 79 Daytona would be a good starter for a newbie!
I would say for some old school road course racing I would watch the 1987 Winston Western at Riverside, especially for the part with Bodine and Earnhardt fighting for the lead, Bodine having either a better car or just being the better driver that day holding off Earnhardt who is pulling off every trick in the book, including a true pass in the grass, just to get the lead.
Also Rick Hendrick drives the 25 car in that race.
Both of the 2019 talladega races are such a fun watch every time I watch them, I loved the package that they used for superspeedways there
2011 Ford 400 is a must watch in my opinion.
Good clean racing for the championship, a comeback in the race winner takes all. Tony Stewart winning his final championship while Carl Edwarda finishes second once again.
2003 Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 would be a great one to watch with the best finish between Kurt Busch and Ricky Craven
The 1989 season is well worth a watch. One of the more famous Daytona 500s, the battle between Wallace and Waltrip at the Winston, the second most controversial race ever at North Wilkesboro, and a back and forth championship battle that came down to the last race of the season.
If you’re a Jeff Gordon fan I’d suggest the 2007 UAW Ford 500 at Talladega. An often overlooked underdog win, a position you don’t normally see Jeff in. In my opinion, it was his 2000 Dale Earnhardt moment at the same track.
Back in March of 2020, I rewatched the first 2 Texas races I went to (both in 2007) and the fall 2010 Texas races. All of those races were incredible to watch. Texas was my home track, it used to produce incredible racing, now it’s a shell of itself and I haven’t gone in 2 years.
