NASCAR has had the best of the best in the world when it comes to driver talent. And we recently looked at those who were the worst of the worst from every team. But the worst drivers of a team are only one part of the major stories that NASCAR holds. So today we flip the script and look instead at the best of the best. Who do you think are the best drivers ever for each modern NASCAR team?
Logano is the “best” at Penske. But Blaney is coming up
RCR by far Dale
McDowell Supremacy!
Can you do this with defunct teams? Who was the worst or the best at the teams that don’t exist or rebranded.
The fact that Jeff Gordon beats 7-Time Champion Jimmie Johnson out for the greatest Hendrick driver ever just goes to show you how great he was in his prime.
We really never fell off to the point that most do. He won from the beginning to the end.
He was easily better than Jimmie
it was definitely easy to be a Jeff Gordon fan from 2005 when I found nascar to his retirement
The casual Jimmie fans will simply look at the championships which are artificial. Gordon owns Jimmie in every statistical category. Wins, top 5s, 10s, poles, lap led (7,000 more) road course wins 9-1, and won titles with multiple crew chiefs
If the points stayed under the old Winston Cup system Jeff would be a 5 or 6 time champion.
I almost spit my drink out from laughing at the start of the RCR portion. No offense at all to Mike Skinner, nobody, not even Jesus would’ve been able to be Big E’s “teammate”
and the sad thing is Dale didn’t even want a teammate due to the stigma of drivers at the time
I would like to see a list like this for old nascar teams that’s not around anymore that would be awesome and Jeff Gordon is the best
Some of the major teams:
Di Gard racing: Bobby Allison
Robert Yates: Dale Jarrett
Melling: Bill Elliott
Rod Osterlund: Dale Earnhardt
Petty Enterprises: Richard Petty
Bud Moore: Joe Weatherly
K&K: Bobby Isaac
Junior Johnson: Cale Yarborough
Holman Moody: David Pearson
Chip Ganassi: Sterling Marlin.
@@jamesbraun9842For Junior Johnson its got to be Waltrip
Iceberg Slim in da House!! Keep on reppin NASCAR & doing your thing. It’s crazy how many years now I’ve been watching this channel to get NASCAR content!! Your obviously doing something right ..
Tbh I expected you to pick Johnson over Gordon for having 7 titles but Gordon in his prime and adding up to 93 wins total was unbeatable even compared to Johnson in his prime.
Not to mention he was mentored in a way by Dale Earnhardt (of all people) in the business side of NASCAR, capitalizing in the rivalry they had big time, and somewhat passing those racing skills over to Johnson once Kenseth brought the Winston system down as a way to keep himself in shape. He could have retired with 7 championships under his belt in 2014 had the sytem been the same throughout
Playoff championships don’t mean much, Jeff Gordon always had more raw talent
Gordon would’ve had 7 championships under the old format
Under Winston cup system Gordon would’ve had 7 and Jimmie would’ve had 4. The Winston Cup system rewarded consistency throughout the entire season whereas the playoffs/chase definitely favored the end of the season. They’re both definitely great drivers, but IMO over Gordon’s career he was more consistent and just better than Jimmie. Having the 3rd most race wins ever is no laughing matter! Especially with the fierce competition Gordon was up against! They’re both phenomenal, but in my heart I know Gordon was better
Even with the current format, if not for a minute or so across his entire career, Gordon would’ve had NINE.
@@noviranger239I didn’t even know that! That’s MENTAL!
And all it took was 1 Matt Kenseth to take ALL THAT AWAY
In my heart and head Gordon was better, it’s really not even close. Johnson had better equipment longer and Knaus above the pit box. A North Carolina based sponsor who owned track rights and lined drunk Brian’s pockets. Johnson was mediocre at best before Hendrick and downright embarrassing in an indycar. He also struggled his entire career on road courses and hasn’t won anything in over 5 seasons.
Mark Martin also finished runner up to Jimmie Johnson in 2009. So, you’re right it took some of the best ever, Earnhardt, Gordon, Stewart and Johnson to keep him from the title. A total of 21 championships among those 4.
Denny Hamlin will be in the conversation of best driver never to win a championship if he never gets a title before he retires. as he has 51 wins to Martin’s 40, and he’s still active. No point in saying anymore in case he wins a title before hanging it up,
As for Hendrick, I have to lean toward Jimmie Johnson. 7 titles with FIVE IN A ROW. ‘Nuff said.
Hamlin has what Martin doesn’t: a Daytona 500 win, and 3 of them. I still can’t belive the Johnson dynasty is almost 20 years old now
Jeff Gordon for Hendrick. What he did for HMS turning them into a powerhouse organization is incredible.
If Matt Kenseth didn’t win, he would have won 7 championships by the time he retired in 2015
Also, what he did for HMS in convincing them to bring in Jimmie. If it wasn’t for Jeff’s support, Jimmie probably doesn’t get the 48 ride.
Without Jeff Gordon NASCAR doesn’t become a mainstream sport in the late 90s and early 2000s and there is no Jimmie Johnson at least not at HMS. Under old points Jeff would lead everything and be the one with 7 titles. Picking Jeff over Jimmie is an easy call.
At least out west, where he grew up. Fontana wouldn’t exist, and Sonoma would have been demoed by now had he not taken the racing world by storm, especially when he was messing around with a certain man in black…
I thought you would go with Ricky Rudd for Wood Brothers. But I had no idea that David Pearson was that good with them.
Gordon is the greatest driver of all time in my opinion. JJ is tied with my favorite but Jeff was the best there ever was.
93 career wins in the modern era is insane.
I agree with the Jeff Gordon pick for Hendrick. JG turned Hendrick into a powerhouse, brought on and mentored Jimmie Johnson (this doesn’t take away from JJ’s achievements), and is still a part of the team today. He was Hendrick’s biggest star: he brought a lot of new fans to Nascar and was known outside of Nascar more than most drivers. He also got the fattest paycheck of any Nascar driver, which might say something about his importance.
I honestly would like a best of every team, where you had to pick somebody whos still there
I think for Penske Brad Keselowski or Joey Logano could be argued to be better. Keselowski had 34 wins and Penske’s first championship in 2012, and Logano currently has 30 wins and 2 championships. Of them, Keselowski I believe was even more important than Rusty Wallace because he came in, completely revitalized the team, brought them a title, and made them a top-flight team.
Neither are a better wheel man then wallace. I’m sure you’re in your 20s saying thst statement. Lol
All of them are equally as good as each other. I love them all so I can’t put one above the other two and vice-versa
Gordon gave up his crew chief to the car he partially owned. Chad’s calls won Jimmie so many of his races. Jeff is clear good choice:)
Denny is very close to breaking Kyle’s JGR win record
Kyle will always have the edge being a champion but Hamlin is alot closer than most think..
2019 Homestead is in a weird way the difference. If Hamlin wins, they’re only separated by 11 wins with a championship each. Hamlin actually has finished higher in points than Busch more seasons that not. Hamlin with a championship becomes a top 20 driver of all time.
Jimmie won twice as many races as Jeff Gordon during the time that they both drove for Hendrick. Nuff said.
I think it would be a neat idea to have a second best in each modern team. That could really open up the debate
McDowell clearly for Front Row. They had a couple “fluke” wins with Ragan and Buescher, but they basically built that team around him, and Michael had bounced around from MWR to LFR and maybe other teams? And Love’s stepped up their sponsorship with him too, he’s a good fit for them, he’s criminally underrated and maybe the nicest guy in the sport too.
