I think larson likes dirt racing better than NASCAR at this point

Not new. He said some years ago that he’d rather win the Chili Bowl than the Daytona 500

I think Larson doesn’t like the Mickey Mouse stuff that NASCAR pulls with rules etc. Plus dirt is his true passion

It’s a Pity that Larson is planning on retiring before he is 40. But we still got about 6 to 8 Seasons to go before that time. I’m hoping he’ll have a lot more wins, and maybe make it into the top 10 on the all-time win list before then. Maybe one of them will be a Daytona 500 crown!

This is nothing new from Larson. He’s said similar things for literally years now. High Limit is poised to dethrone World of Outlaws in due time, so this is nothing shocking. He also said in the interview he wants to run with the premier dirt late model tour later, too. Dirt is where his heart is at. It’s that simple.

I agree. He has many option’s.

what everyone is forgetting is the age these drivers start racing at when I started in 1990 age to drives was 18 at local short track. I have watch that age requirement go down to 12 and 11 now. with go carts and bandoleros it under 8 now by time some of these drivers reach 40 they have been racing for 35 years. you did not make cup level until late 20’s early 30’s. today we have teenagers making it. today’s racings is very different than just 30 years ago.

It’s a shame that Larson’s talent was wasted in Chip Gnassi equipment because had he been with Hendrick earlier, he might have won a lot more. But I guess we never get everything that we wanted.

The RFK to IMSA potential makes sense. Ford is introducing the new Mustang GT3 in IMSA and LeMans. I think that there is a definite connection between these two announcements.

In all honesty the writings on the wall with the High Limit series expanding.. his kids growing older etc I think Larson sees all of this from a bucket list perspective..

If Larson does in fact retire early, he’ll go down as one of the best drivers of his era, regardless of circumstances.

@evanwilliams6406 January 5, 2024 at 8:40 pm

Well, that is what happens when you start racing at a young age and how much the drivers are being paid, they are set for life. Most can retire comfortably before 40 and even the late 30’s is considered “old” because Larson began driving at such a young age and even at 31, he is already a seasoned veteran of the sport. You will be seeing a lot of this happening with the current crop of drivers. Plus, Larson likes dirt more because there is less media and politics, and it is straight up racing and Larson can come to the track and do his business. I said this about him years ago, Larson does not have to be in NASCAR, he can make a career out of racing dirt after his career is over.

@rwbodiford January 5, 2024 at 8:53 pm

I’ve always said that about Larson, and I don’t blame him a bit. I’m a huge fan, but let’s be honest, he’s in cup for the money (rightfully talented to be obviously), he’s not here for a 20 year career. He wants to fund his awesome life for himself and his family, and have as much fun as he can along the way. Good on him, I’ll forever be jealous.

Reply
@Ka_Gg January 6, 2024 at 3:22 am

Yep! Say the sprint cars paid as much as cup did, he wouldn’t be here.

I don’t say that as a bad thing though. It just is what it is. This has also helped him become a better driver overall imo. Definitely has taught him patience although sometimes it doesn’t seem like he gets that. Lol.

Just crazy to think that racing in cup isn’t his main passion and he is still one of the top drivers in the series. That’s how great he is.

I think he is going to do great things for dirt over the next 30 or 40 years with his series and the money he can invest. Look at the small tracks that are struggling. When he shows up, the stands are sold out and those places to get the biggest crowds they’ve had in years.

@realbaron5714 January 5, 2024 at 8:58 pm

Larson’s story can be understood, since after the age of 40 the physical performance decreases and therefore the results are not the same and not only in NASCAR but in any sports discipline, perhaps Larson wants to retire being at his best and not end up like Johnson or Harvick in his later years.

Reply
@Glitchunlocked January 5, 2024 at 11:16 pm

Harvick was significantly more competitive than Johnson in his final years though. JJ fell off hard, Harvick was still a playoff/Championship contender until the end.

Reply
@Ka_Gg January 6, 2024 at 3:19 am

Harvick legit carried shr the last few years. He would be running 5th or 6th when his teammates were running closer to 20th and it seemed like that was going on every race.

Hell, he was in contention to possibly win the southern 500.

Truly enjoyed watching the three cars race past your logo. I think Bubba makes it to the playoffs this season as well. A lot of his problems actually came from pit decisions and pit stops. He ran extremely well and I think he will run much better on average. Maybe round of 12 and Tyler will be round of 8 with a strong chance to make it to the championship 4
