What Is the 2024 Expectations for Hailie Deegan?

Hailie Deegan has a great opportunity made for her in 2024. She has moved on from the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series up to the NASCAR Xfinity Series and can now either prove fans right or wrong that it was merely a bad fit for a series that she was in. Today we look at Deegan’s brief career lead up to this and what the expectations should be moving forward.

What are you expecting from Hailie Deegan in 2024?

If she gets a podium, she’ll beat most expectations.

Joke’s on the fans. She earned more $$ in her short Nascar career than most of us will in our lifetime.

It really is a shame she’s going down the route of the next NASCAR bust after all the hype surrounding her in 2019 & 2020.

What Hype? You mean fooled people? She is hyped because she is a woman. The end.

It was such a fan when she was winning championships on dirt she honestly should’ve stayed there and just tried to grow the sport of dirt racing instead of just being another bust in nascar.

That seems to be what happens to female drivers in NASCAR as a whole. Prior to Hailie, it seems like the two closest women to success stories in NASCAR were Janet Guthrie, and Danica Patrick. And Danica is considered a NASCAR Bust despite matching Janet Guthrie in best recorded finish by a female driver, and recording the highest finish by a female driver in the Xfinity Series in 2011. (Ironically also happening at Las Vegas.) Shawna Robinson didn’t work out, Tina Gordon bombed, Erin Crocker Evernham bombed, and Natalie Decker can’t even keep a consistent schedule in any brand of racing.

Hailie’s single start in 2022 was really impressive, so hopefully those cars suit her driving style more.

I’m expecting a Top 20 in points, a few Top 10’s and for her to show some real improvement from the beginning of the year to the end. I want her to succeed as it would be fantastic for the sport, but like your title says, the excuses for her are about to run out.

If it was so good, why didn’t she get starts in 2023 then?

@dedo7326 January 10, 2024 at 11:40 pm

It wasn’t that great really. She just avoid a wreck at the very end and got lucky. She was cruising around 25-30th the whole race till the end when about 10 cars got wiped out.

I was on board the deegan train at first, but after last year, shes just taking up space. If this is what she wants to do, go the JenJoCobb route as an owner driver. Deegan has marketability, so she would have no problem finding sponsors, something JJC has struggled with.

As long as she gets a couple of top 5s and top 10s, keeps her equipment clean, finishes in the top 20 in points, she will have a great season

Reply
@wordlesslfiddling January 11, 2024 at 12:12 am

I would say top 5s are for the most part out of the question she’s not exactly in top equipment plus being a rookie but regularly in the top 20 or 15 and 10 are a must and if she can keep her nose clean maybe built on that into the future
More than anything I see this year has a chance to rebuild herself

The hype around Deegan has always exceeded her talent. She’s always gotten better rides than her results deserved, and so now her shortcomings more severe.

I think she’s got some talent that’s for sure.. but she just isn’t putting in enough work.. I get she’s young and having fun is important but when you have an opportunity that other drivers wish they could have she should be putting all her emphasis on spending time with her head coach and team and learning the ins and outs of each track and not doing all the YouTube videos and extra stuff

I can see her doing alright in the Xfinity series. I don’t expect her to be a contender right out of the gate but she could be a silent killer down the road. She is still young so she does have time.

@NR_88 January 10, 2024 at 10:17 pm

No matter the series you can tell if a driver is going to be the next big thing. Don’t want to hear the truck series excuse when Carson Hocevar and Zane Smith are jumping up to cup. Deegan just isn’t a championship caliber or race winning driver. I think the best thing for her to do is to quietly leave and go to off road racing. She’s done it before and is good at racing on dirt. A series like NitroCross would be perfect for her.

Reply
@DRBarber88 January 10, 2024 at 10:30 pm

I’d like to see her do good in the Xfinity series, it’d be great for the sport. What do you think of Rajah Caruth’s performance? I feel like there are many similarities between the two

Reply
@cpttankerjoe January 10, 2024 at 10:53 pm

I’ve heard you say yourself that being bad in the truck series doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be bad in the Xfinity series. There’s a few drivers who had just that happen to them where they sucked at trucks but excelled at Xfinity/busch. Give her a full year in Xfinity and we will see

Reply
@sergeantmasson3669 January 11, 2024 at 11:23 am

@cpttankerjoe, she’s a dud in all motorsports racing, not just NASCAR. The stats/facts don’t lie. She hasn’t accomplished squat since joining the big leagues in 2020.

Reply
@Kampfy90 January 10, 2024 at 10:54 pm

She did really in GT4 cars, I wonder if the endurance racing or road course route would be a better path for her.

Reply
@sergeantmasson3669 January 11, 2024 at 11:26 am

@Kampfy90, FALSE. She did okay there ONLY because of Ben Rhodes. It damn sure wasn’t because of her driving.

Speaking of the Vikings, the NFL player I have most respect for is probably their most famous player, Defensive End as a player and Philosopher away when not, Jim Marshall. He may be unfairly remembered for his wrong way run in 1964 (when instead of scoring a touchdown, he scored a Safety for Ssn Francisco), but that sort of thing pales in comparison to what he dealt with away from the field, like an expedition he was involved in that left him fighting for his life when he contracted Encephalitis. He’s also (as far as I know) the Vikings’ Iron Man

There were only 25 drivers in Xfinity last year that made 30 or more starts , so her being in the top 20 should be at least the minimum expectation. I have to wonder how close the relationship between SHR and AM is . Was Brett making the equipment look good or were they performing well because of strategy? I don’t expect her to perform as well as Moffitt did last year , he was a cup series rookie of the year and a truck series champion, he’s been driving for a while. Hopefully with the new sponsorship she brings and you hope she’s hungry to perform and prove she belongs, maybe they will surprise people. I would think she could luck into a few top tens. This isn’t a top-tier Xfinity team she’s going to. I doubt there’s really high expectations for her, but there definitely will be over the next few years. I don’t think she’s a generational talent ( Nor are most people driving in xfinity) but at least she is taking it slow and not trying to get into a cup ride as soon as possible and trying to develop her talent . One thing I will say about her YouTube channel one of the things that is the most enjoyable about the channel is when she talks about what’s going on with the car. She’s clearly a very technical driver and understands what she wants out of a race car. I hope she finds success, it would be good for the sport.

@justice3340 January 11, 2024 at 5:12 am

I’ve always said she needed to move up to xfinity where there’s more serious drivers who don’t just wreck. Now there is no excuses. She must perform well here or she just doesn’t have it. I can admit that if that’s the fact. I just hope if she performs well, people don’t continue to hate on her for the obvious reason.

I think she is important for the sport. She brings a lot of fans, she is popular on social media, and she is a hit with younger fans. She can definitely drive a wide variety of race cars. I just hope that she doesn’t turn out to be another Danica story of what could have been. I’d like to see her do good, but her results over the last few years are up for debate, despite being in favorable equipment and with favorable teams.
