NASCAR unintentionally released a good way for qualifying to be done going forward. Have a 45 minute practice with all cars on track, then a 15 minute break, then a 30 minute final practice where the fastest speed determines qualifying position. Keeps same TV window, teams actually get some practice and can use second session if still searching after first session and makes qualifying not as dragged out. Teams get 2 sets of tires for practice/qualifying, and can use at their discretion. Would also make all races impound, so that teams just qualify on race setups and don’t have time to change overnight. On the superspeedways, Michigan, and Indy, use the 2020 rules for position by points and previous race results/fast lap., but still give the teams 75-90 minutes of practice

Makes you wonder if this will be the last year of the Clash in LA if they aren’t allowing fans in on Saturday for the heat races

Reply
@JBAlternate January 16, 2024 at 9:38 pm

I’d almost think it has to be. I never really felt like they’d come back for more than two or three years anyway. But this feels like a step back. I remember after the first event happened they talked about going stadium racing anywhere. I get the feeling they’re pulling away from that idea.

I like the clash i think the banging wrecking each other for wins i don’t like the boring races where a car wins by 2 or 3 seconds i like the close finishes the upsets I wish they can make it a point race but they can’t cause you can’t fit 36-38 cars on the track sadly. What i would do is move LA for the all star race and do a full 36 car race at Daytona and cars it the clash a 200 lap race all charter cars and you just go for it and the lineup will be how you finish last year in the standings those who did not race full time like Gragson will start in the back and Blaney will be on the pole

Well the idea is for the short track at Fontana to take the reins but I don’t see them finishing that track this year. :/

This wasn’t a good move though open session qualifying makes all kinds of sense

@JBAlternate January 17, 2024 at 12:24 am

@@ihateracin They don’t even have plans to start the new Auto Club short track yet, let alone a timeline for finishing it. They’re waiting for construction costs to go down, so that thing could easily be 4-5 years out. And it’s probably not going to save them much money by waiting. So we’ll see if they go through with it.

The daytona entry list is certainly getting interesting. i think we may have a legit race to get in this year and maybe even a big name driver going home
I think so far we have the 84 60 62 78 lets hope the 50 and the 67 attempt the 500 and heck lets throw in the 33 as well and maybe even the 13

And it all started when Tyler Reddick announced his sudden switch from RCR with their Chevrolet to 23XI and their Toyota.
Richard Childress fired back by taking Kyle Busch from Toyota back to Chevrolet.
And then Toyota taking away Legacy Motor Club and most importantly, Jimmie Johnson from Chevrolet!

Geez, what’s the deal between Chevrolet and Toyota?

The Heats have been my favorite part of the entire thing. Seems strange to close that off to fans. I’m definitely getting the feeling that NASCAR is starting to pull away from this event.

NASCAR with another L. Why in the heck would you intentionally exclude people from coming to the heat races. Why bother racing in a “new market” at all if you aren’t going to let people come watch? You should be thrilled if anyone wants to watch the heats and actually shows up for them! Hell make it a free to attend event and make some money on booze and merch. Just another missed opportunity. If I had paid for a ticket and this wasn’t explicitly stated I’d be pretty mad about it.

Having no public access to Saturday heat races defeats the whole purpose of gaining new fans.

I understand them moving the heat races to Saturday because of the Mexico series race, but there should still be public access

This clash in the Colosseum is so far removed from what the old Bush clash used to be. I always love the way they qualified back in the day because they pulled out a can of Bush beer and the number on it was where they started from and they also had the option to drink the beer if they wanted to.

Nascar not opening the stands for the heat race is sad. I know they didn’t fill the stands the past 2 years, but that was because they didn’t market it. They should market them more. More eyes would be at the clash seeing better racing. Jimmie’s going to have good cars to win in this year. Legacy will make a comeback. The dollar tree/family dollar partnership is huge. I hope they make the diecast because I’ll buy it.

I really hope Jeffrey can make the most of his starts. The 26 car launched Nemechek into a quality ride. If Jeffrey can have a solid run at Atlanta, hopefully sponsors will get on board and it’ll lead to more races.

It’s unfortunate Jr or Childress couldn’t find a spot for him with ForeverLawn Inc

I believe that the inclusion of IMS to Jimmie’s 2024 Cup Series schedule means an unfinished business for him. Remember that he was supposed to drive the Ally #48 HMS car at the 2020 Brickyard 400, but he was sidelined due to COVID-19 protocols. So, not only we’re gonna get a return to Indy’s oval, we’re also gonna see a 4-time Brickyard 400 winner come back to that legendary motorsports facility one more time.
