Drive to Survive will be totally unwatchable this upcoming season mainly because the most entertaining character of the series Gunther Steiner is out as team principal at Haas. Because of this I think the producers will likely focus more on Max Verstappen & Red Bull which has zero drama in it since they dominate every single race.
If NASCAR doesn’t penalize these drivers for speaking out and fairly criticizing the sport then maybe they can show more personality. These drivers are literally afraid to talk to a camera because they’ll get fined and penalized for everything they do. I’m really looking forward to 2024 if we can get 4 million or more viewers a week then I can see NASCAR entering a new boom period.
There are also people out there who are just naturally like that. Some of those drivers that have a “dry”, restricted personality might actually be like that in real life. I know this because I am one of those people.
when I started watching it, I thought it was ok. Then I spotted Eric Estepp going by the screen and now it is the greatest bit of cinema I have ever witnessed
Was a very good show I really hope it gets a second season or a season that is longer and gets into more stories/drivers. Personally I’m super interested to see if we will see anything in the ratings at the clash or 500
It’s everything i hoped it would be. I was afraid that it would be over-dramatic, but i think they balanced it well. I wish there was a bit more of Reddick, but maybe I’m just a biased fan lol. I really love how uncensored the show is too
I really hope they keep this series going, because this is by far the most natural the drivers have felt in the media. They’re given enough time for their personalities to shine through, while not trying to make the drivers caricatures of themselves. Longform content really suits the more lowkey, chill drivers who can’t really get their personalities across in quick little 2 minutes post race interviews, or when they have to accommodate tons of media members. It feels very much like the drivers wanna be doing this, and they’re enjoying it.
I wish they focused on more than just Daytona E1. I know it’s the icon and the draw but Id have loved to see McDowell featured after Indy, to give the guys that arent the superstars a chance to show what making the playoffs mean.
I think they will in the future. I think they did a good and calculated job selecting the drivers to feature. They’re trying to draw some fans. Chase is pretty recognizable to begin with and wasn’t a playoff driver so not much of need for him. I agree that it would be nice for a mid level driver to get on the show. Like a McDowell or Preece. Be nice to see them do a series prior to the Playoffs. Maybe a two part series with 10 episodes. Last 5 being centered around the playoffs. I think it has a lot of potential going forward.
I really enjoyed this show, and really hope they do it yearly and maybe get to cover the whole season with covering certain races, but I especially liked how much talk there was about the mental side and what it does to the drivers and their families. I also liked how I saw people complain saying it was gonna focus heavily on the crashes based on the trailer, but it barely showed the crashes at all other than when they were relevant and why. Great show, solid 8 or 9 out of 10
Denny Hamlin’s father really stole the show imo. Cutting back to his cigar that MJ gave him with Daylight playing in the background hit me hard, and I’m not even a Denny fan.
Just finished binge watching this, and man, NASCAR and Netflix did an incredible job! I’m not a huge Hamlin fan myself, but his openness and willingness to give a look inside the life of an owner-driver earned him tons of respect from me. Hopefully I’m right back here next year writing a very similar comment about Season 2!
@@greggkiest1069 look you’re entitled to do what you want but I have to at least ask why would you let one featured driver ruin the entire series for you? I can’t stand Larson and Chastain and not a very big fan of Reddick but I thoroughly enjoyed the series.
Man I do not remember Bootie Barker’s voice with that THICK, southern drawl. I remember him sounding smart and fantastic during NASCAR Performance during the Speed days.
The thing that impresses the most about the show, besides the authenticity, is the potential. No Kyle Busch, no Chase, Trackhouse had a quiet year. Ty Gibbs. No Stewart-Haas, no Legacy Motorclub. They may not all want to be part of it, but even adding more of these people the upcoming nascar season would be great.
@@owen_som I wonder how much of it was because Trackhouse had a quiet year. It’s crazy that 23XI seemed so much more media-saavy all around than them, but they also collectively had better performances that warranted the screentime

Way better than drive to survive
By A LOT
This show is gonna drive up NASCAR viewership like it did with F1

To be fair, NASCAR hasn’t really done that since Brian France left the helm.
Keep dreaming lol they’ll be lucky if they don’t continue to drop
@@jam_plays_games Shhhh, don’t state facts, it goes against the agenda they’re pushing.

I think Bootie Barker has potential to be the Gunther Steiner esque figure in the show
“We look like a bunch of wankers” -Bootie Barker probrably. I would keel over if he said that
Lol

Me too lol
I’d love to know what you find likable about him.

I love Denny

NASCAR Unrestricted would be a better name i think but they restrict HP and clean air too much to make that a reality. Glad to see this is a success.
Put it on the Groovy Gauge

I know I now want him to win a championship just for his dad to smoke his cigar
2 things I learned from this docuseries
Reddick likes the Mario bros
Bell is a Grass connoisseur

Hamlin is why i refuse to watch the series.
@@greggkiest1069he acts like an arrogant d-bag in the show just like he always does.

Kinda suprised with how much MJ was in the show that we didn’t see pit bull

To be fair, NASCAR fans roll their eyes at most of the things that Marty Smith says.
