Love your stuff Eric! My grandfather was a huge Nascar fan throughout his life and got both me and my little brother into the sport. He passed away mother’s day of last year, but we decided to carry on his legacy and we went to our first Nascar race at the Coke 600 last year! This year we’re going to Bristol and I even got a few friends into the sport! Thanks for making your videos entertaining, relevant, and very informative. As one of the younger (teenager) fans in the sport, you make everything right down to earth. Keep it up!

Sorry about your loss…..but I’m glad you and your little brother are still fans and recruiting more!

I’ve been a fan since the age of 6. Wide world of sports broadcasted an entire race and of course there was a famous fight at the end of the race. Can’t stop watching. I’m more of a team or pit crew fan I have old friends still down south racing. Sorry for your loss. New Hampshire and Pocono are my closest tracks.

FWIW, My grandpa was a big race fan and got me interested. We went to Bowman-Gray weekly then occasionally to Charlotte & Wilkesboro which was My first Cup Race, David Pearson beat Richard Petty.
Now I’m a Grandpa and never miss one on TV. Grandpas are special. Racing Grandpas are Xtra Special.
Mine lived to 94. It’s cool & unusual to still have your Grandpa when you are 50. He played the guitar and sang. He was actually pretty terrible but enjoyed it & that’s what mattered.
He became blind. Me and my wife took him in after grandma died and kept him till he had a stroke at which point we were no longer able. I still enjoy the sport he turned me on to and still think of him often. I’m glad you’re finding joy as a result of your grandpa.

F1 has some parity, its just in the midfield and its so tiered out (2 teams per tier) that its tough for the casual fan to follow.

Just trying to give credit and clarity where both are due. F1’s new car did help with racing a ton, but the other aspects of the sport that set F1 apart also make parity very tough.

That’s why I love Indycar so much better. Parity, and they can defend with push to pass instead of just getting drs and blowing by the guy in front. Indycar you never know who will win. F1 is boring now that I have watched it 2 seasons.

@blpanthers March 6, 2024 at 1:06 am

F1 doesn’t need fabricated debris or stage cautions to bunch the field up to create drama.

Hmmm maybe Jr is talking about when he did that one race with Fox and how THEY wanted him to react to moments on the track. Who knows.

Reply
@StevenP727 March 5, 2024 at 6:52 pm

In my opinion in order for the ratings to improve there needs to be a platform to watch the races without needing a tv subscription, for example why not livestream the races on YouTube?

Reply
@jacksonrobison1901 March 5, 2024 at 6:55 pm

I would like that

Reply
@RoastBeefSandwich March 5, 2024 at 7:17 pm

The only reason the TV partners are paying as much as they are is exclusivity. If the races are going to be broadcast on YouTube for free, NBC isn’t going to pay nearly as much for the rights.

Reply
@pbrady696 March 5, 2024 at 7:19 pm

Because nascar makes a lot of their money off tv deals. Youtube or Twitch would have to make a deal with them in order for it to happen.

Reply

@jessedaly7823 March 5, 2024 at 8:47 pm

What races are you unable to watch? The races are on FOX or FS1. For NBC they are on NBC or USA. I’ve never understood this argument. If you can’t see the FS1 and USA races you have to option to upgrade from your basic package. NASCAR has always been on a variety of channels not just the major broadcast networks. Used to be on ESPN, TNT, TNN, TBS and I’m probably missing a few. How far back are you going? 80s?

@GregBrownsWorldORacing March 5, 2024 at 9:12 pm

@@jessedaly7823 There was a time certain races were only available if you had a satellite dish (the ones about the size of a Volkswagen) – Not on cable or antenna.
I remember going over to a friend’s house to mooch NASCAR that day after MRN told of this accident live. We had all afternoon to get over there, while they were repairing the fence. – Prototype SAFER barrier, but we didn’t know. Youtube see epic crash:

I believe Jr saw this as an opportunity to become the lead guy for a broadcast. He’s worked hard over the years and I think now is his chance to lead a broadcast his own way. Not that he was second fiddle at NBC, but he came into an already stacked booth. Now it’s his turn, and I think he’ll be great.

I can’t see NBC letting the sports biggest superstar for the past 20 something years just walk away for nothing at all knowing his popularity with the fans and how important he is in the whole industry. There had to be some kind of underlying issue somewhere

I’m really glad that Eric is becoming more and more ingrained with NASCAR the organization. Sure some may view as a danger to Eric’s traditionally unbiased opinions on organization faults, but Eric is one of if not the largest media personality in NASCAR news and this will inevitably help drive up pre-race viewership.

He is one of the most important people in the sport I’m a younger fan who grew up watching his stop motions I only watched daytona for the crashes. Once he stopped the stop motions I kept watching and got lucky sitting down and watching the 2018 Chicagoland finish. I realized there is more to it then crashes. I started back watching Out of the Groove and Nascar became my favorite sport. If it wasn’t for Eric and the Slide Jawb I would not be a fan

Nascar drivers can be superstars if they can be allowed to themselves on social media and in public without the fear of being cancelled. They have to walk such a fine line that many are afraid to be themselves.

Reply
@sasquatch7234 March 5, 2024 at 9:15 pm

I do feel as if the modern era of always having someone watch what you say or do has something to do with it. However, look at F1. There are many people with different personalities over there. In NASCAR? Not so much. Everyone comes off as a robot.

Reply
@breytondavison March 5, 2024 at 10:50 pm

I feel like in the Netflix series those drivers seemed to be allowed to be a lot more themselves. It seemed pretty unfiltered. Hopefully that carries on and maybe the Netflix series helps build up the superstars and show each drivers personality

NASCAR, I feel, did not have the right to “bar” that one driver for LIFETIME, because he made a personal decision to “like” something on line. NASCAR could have said we don’t agree with his decision and left it at that. Once, we as a culture, start banning people because we don’t agree with their viewpoint when they are exercising free choice and free speech, we are heading down a dark and dangerous road AWAY from the preserving of our freedoms and rights. Love Dale Earnhardt’s commentary on races, not because he is Jr. but his honest, straightforward aspect of the races. I’m not a fan of the races going to Amazon, because now I can see all the races, but I’ll have stream Amazon if I want to see the races there, not willing to spend money beyond cable/satellite. In the future you’ll have pay for several streaming services cable/satellite to see all the races. Bad enough with NBC’s coverage of having to sream Peacock, which I have refused to do!!

I will say that if there is a streaming service to get, it’s Amazon Prime. I didn’t even know I had it until I realized that I use Prime for faster Amazon delivery. So you not only get a streaming service, but faster delivery from Amazon as well. Trust me, I am an (almost) broke college student, so I have to mitigate what streaming services I use.

The perfect booth is a combo of eyes on the track and eyes on the monitor. Atlanta finish was the shining example. Mike Joy likes to keep his eyes on the track. Kevin Harvick pointed to the monitor to draw his attention to the winning differential. *chef’s kiss*

@oktoday8323 March 5, 2024 at 10:07 pm

Looking out a window and seeing the whole track is a good thing, it keeps things real and not just through the telescope of a TV monitor. So, Jr. is right on that issue.
