I think upping the horsepower would put NASCAR back on the worldwide map.

It is the only thing that possibly could.

I feel like NASCAR is a drug dealer who has been adding more and more baking soda to their coke for years with restrictions that make cars so slow in a *RACING* series.

Take off the tapered spacer, stop scheduling cautions, stop resetting points. Bam – instant success. Do it tomorrow.

I don’t know why nascar won’t add horsepower. All 3 manufacturers have said multiple times they are willing to do it and the engine builders said these engines can handle way more power than what they have right now. The power number to get new manufacturers is working. Just raise the power. The way to get new manufacturer is by having better races. The new aero package was a start but it’s hard to tell at phoenix. NASCAR has to add power. With how this car is built they have no other options right now.

Only for tracks 1 mile or less and road courses. That’s All Toyota is up for .

They really could only get to like 750hp and drives have said you would need a lot more than that to make the short track package better. They’ll need to figure out other things before going to hp imo, at least until the hybrids arrive.

@Derping098 March 12, 2024 at 7:29 pm

My tinfoil hat theory is that they are waiting until the hybrid engine is introduced to increase the HP. Nascar knows that any form of electrification will be unpopular with the older fans. However, if Nascar can say “hey, these engines will have electric components, but they add 200 HP to the car” then the older fans will be more welcoming of the change.

This is actually a very plausible theory.

I would actually be happy with that

I’m on board for ANYTHING to get those HP numbers up

Front Row Motorsports is a great example of never giving up. They were a start and park, and today their a factory supported team.

Ok front row is great

Crazy how the Xfinity car is just good as or better than the next gen car at all types of tracks: intermediates, short tracks, road courses, superspeedways, you name it

Reply
@nascaralert4504 March 12, 2024 at 7:45 pm

I would argue next gen is way better on intermediate tracks and Xfinity car.

@TheAnimationStationYT March 12, 2024 at 8:37 pm

It was sure as hell not better at Atlanta

its still somewhat a stockcar….as far as a racecar goes.

@bobd4006 March 12, 2024 at 7:38 pm

I’ll believe it when i see it regarding higher HP

Reply
@johnhaas2523 March 12, 2024 at 8:52 pm

Maybe the hybrid component with the new engines that are going to be coming will give them HP increase

Reply
@MrKbarker360 March 12, 2024 at 7:45 pm

Next gen needs more horsepower!! Needs to be a noticeable difference in lap times from other series not to mention skill to handle more HP less downforce. I’m not buying another ticket until they do

Reply
@johnhaas2523 March 12, 2024 at 8:50 pm

They don’t care if it’s noticeable

@loganengland8177 March 12, 2024 at 7:49 pm

More horsepower equals better racing

Reply
@johnhaas2523 March 12, 2024 at 8:49 pm

That’s not going to make the short track racing any better

Reply
@fivespeed42 March 12, 2024 at 10:01 pm

@@johnhaas2523Sure it is. More horsepower breaks that rear traction which in turn wears those tires out and brings car set up and handling a much bigger factor

Reply
@ariansmovies March 12, 2024 at 10:15 pm

They really need to do something with the tires and put grooves on the tires to reduce the surface contact patch to reduce grip.

Reply
@bighand1530 March 12, 2024 at 11:17 pm

@@johnhaas2523 I say it can.

Reply
@RedWingsninetyone March 13, 2024 at 1:52 am

I disagree about grooves but wouldn’t be opposed. But more HP will definitely help break traction. @@ariansmovies

I went to Auto Club races from 2010-2023 and I really miss the days where the engine would fail mechanically at the midpoint of a race. There was always that uncertainty, unpredictability, and nervousness when your favorite driver was out front hoping their engine wouldn’t blow. Since about 2015/2016 though engine failures have become almost non-existent, we might get ONE per year now if we’re lucky.

Reply
@fivespeed42 March 12, 2024 at 9:57 pm

Right… That’s what used to make the 600 such a feat, getting your car to last the distance

Reply
@tstuff1213 March 12, 2024 at 10:33 pm

Part of that is because teams only use the engines twice. Horsepower was still like 800+ but the teams chose to only run tbem twice thus in a way improving reliability. So even with more power i doubt that will return as much for engine failures etc

@XxmetalHeadxX88 March 12, 2024 at 8:13 pm

I think the main reason why NASCAR won’t increase horsepower is because they want a new manufacturer to invest in the sport. Similar to how expansion works in sports. A big organization gets added salary caps increse, driver salaries increase and prize pools for each race increase. I wouldn’t be surprised if NASCARs charter agreements have been put on pause because they are eagerly waiting on a new oem.

Fiat’s reasoning on backing out when Dodge was on the verge of rejoining NASCAR was R&D money related, wonder how much of that was due to the engine

2:08 Doug Yates said himself that Nascar has the most expensive 650 hp engine ever built and it would not cost any more money to add a couple hundred horsepower.

@christivi6020 March 12, 2024 at 9:54 pm

Low hp attracts OEMs but higher hp attracts fans. Its the top series in stock car racing they should be fast, like close to 1000hp fast. If we wanna be on the map we gotta have high speeds CLOSE to indy or f1
