The return of the 2023 Bristol spring race on concrete was something fans have been clamoring for over the past 3 years. NASCAR and SMI delivered and in doing so the racing for the fans delivered as well. Continuing a terrific start to the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season for completely differing reasons than the other the degradation of the tires made for a spectacle on intrigue. This is why Bristol was great (and not a disaster)

What did you think about the 2024 Food City 500?
Best Bristol race ever
Best Bristol race since 2020 Food City 500
Cheese Grater 500.

You said it yourself XD
McDowell Supremacy!
That was straight up one of the best Bristol races in a long time and arguably the best of the Gen 7 era
Totally agree. I loved it. And I wasn’t a huge fan of Bristol (recent) leading up to this race.
And yeah – it was cool to see the older drivers (minus KFB and plus Larson) really do well in completely adverse racing conditions.
It was certainly very chaotic. The tires were an issue sure but it allowed for a better broadcast and better strategy. And they should have more races like this.
Phoenix – I sleep
Bristol Spring 2024 – Real ****. Out here looking like 1985
When I heard Goodyear come out and said that resin was the issues for the tires I honestly hope they run resin on the bottom grooves at Martinsville, Richmond, and Wilkesboro as a true test to see where this package is at.
They blamed the resin, but the un-treated part of the track wasn’t behaving any different.
This was not a short track package run at Bristol.
NASCAR picked a perfect year to have a Netflix doc
100% agree with everything said in this video! I’ve said this elsewhere, and I’ll say it here: Savor this race because we’re probably not going to see another one like this in awhile, if ever, especially if they do change things. This was a fantastic race with steady and consistent tire falloff and *not* random blowouts after driving for 5 or so laps.
I am 43 and watched every race since the 1992 Hooters 500….that Brickyard race was the biggest cluster f*ck of all time
I will admit that I didn’t really know if I liked this race during the first two stages, but by stage 3 I realized wow this is the kind of racing I wanted
it is a shame we might never get another race like this again
As someone who attended the race in person, the race was fantastic and I wouldn’t change a thing.
Tire wear is definitely key to making short track races great. The resin instead of PJ1 was definitely a factor
A bump up in horsepower would still be nice though.
People are saying the tires were bad because barely anyone knows how to manage a tire anymore. The tires very well *COULD* go 60-70 laps (Hamlin and Truex proved it), but everyone is used to just doing qualifying laps for 500 miles.
We’re blurring lines here with liking the idea of the race accidentally becoming a drivers race and the disaster situation that occurred with the tires. The tires were going down to the cords for almost every single car. The winner of the race blew out a tire… Tire fall off is great, tire SHUT OFF isn’t.
The photo finish at Atlanta was amazing for the casual fans, it’s an insane moment that will be on the highlight reels for years to come. The Bristol finish was great for the more hardcore race fans, it wasn’t as visually dramatic, but you can appreciate all the build-up, planning, strategy and individual driver skill that led to that finish.
I’m admittedly a casual NASCAR fan; this was the first race I’ve watched from beginning to end in years. Entertaining as heck with a great sprint to the finish between Hamlin and Truex through traffic. I used to watch more in the ’90s and early 2000’s before the stage era, when long-run strategy was actually part of the race.
I simply don’t understand why people are upset with this race, it literally checks the boxes for everything that we asked for last week.
I gotta admit, after Stage 1, I thought “Ah damn it, it’s Indy ’08 all over again…” Just to go “Holy, that’s one of the most fun races I’ve ever seen” at the end
At the end of stage 1 I told my friend “this is either gonna be one of the best races of the year or ’08 Brickyard” and I’m so glad it was the former
What’s funny is at the end of stage 1, Denny said over his radio “this is a joke, just like Indy”
NASCAR at Indy never recovered from that tire fiasco. The stands were packed that day; it hasn’t been anywhere close since.
