2nd fastest during TESTING?!?!? That kid is good in any car. I would like him to try Australian Super Cars or F1 kind of like a reverse Kimi or SVG

It was a tow lap

Reply
@cachinerof1 April 11, 2024 at 4:27 pm

i’m not reading in Larson. that Larson lap was with a tow. still a good performance but it’s only gonna get harder. he needs more experience in traffic

Reply
@NR_88 April 11, 2024 at 4:33 pm

But to do that in your first ever session against others is impressive. But yeah there’s still work to be done.

Reply
@mattsmeltzer3041 April 11, 2024 at 4:48 pm

Agreed. But every other driver had the same opportunities as he did during testing to “tow” so I wonder y other drivers aren’t doing the same

kyle larson is literally the type to wake up from a nap and seconds later is driving 220mph… like holy sh*t lmao

Nascar fans should 100% be rooting for Larson to win the Indy 500!! Can’t wait for that day, great day in Motorsports!

INDYCAR fan here and I want to add some context for what Kyle did on Wednesday.

No doubt what he did was incredibly impressive to get up to speed that quickly…. But there were some circumstances that helped him out.

1. No one was really going that quickly… speeds were about the same as practice last year with cars that are significantly lighter

2. 3/4 of the field including almost every competitive car were not running their INDY500 car, they were running test mules (likely from Texas last year) with old engines and gearboxes while Kyle was running his INDY500 Car.

3. Arrow McLaren was almost certainly sandbagging with the 5 and 6 while the 7 had gearbox issues (relating to it being an old one from previous seasons). And they probably would never ask a guy on his third time ever sitting in an open wheel car to start doing that kind of gamesmanship

To sum tall this up, his speed wasn’t supposed to be the highlight, we should be happy that he’s that comfortable in the IndyCar at IMS

Reply
@Falconius April 11, 2024 at 5:11 pm

@@hotkarl92 exactly, he did his fast lap sitting directly in the draft of another car, the fact that on day 1 he had the confidence to do that is the true highlight

I would love to see Larson and Verstappen switch cars, even at some empty track. Just to see how each does in the other car

Reply
@bighand1530 April 11, 2024 at 4:55 pm

I think Max Verstappen would be more entertaining to watch in NASCAR than in F1.

@theskoob2944 April 11, 2024 at 4:35 pm

Parity eliminated the notion of a superstar. Sure, we’ll have some drivers better than others, but 50 wins from here on out will now be the new “high bar”

Reply
@John-kx3ng April 11, 2024 at 4:40 pm

Larson is absolute talent, I personally would love to see what he could do in a competitive F1 car. I think he would be right on lace from the get go.

Kyle Larson would be more entertaining than Max Verstappen.

@PinMonkey1960 April 11, 2024 at 4:41 pm

I couldn’t care less about drivers off track activities. Superstars are created on the track.

@bighand1530 April 11, 2024 at 4:56 pm

Understand though that the days of Dale Earnhardt Sr and Jr, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart are done.

@rmg_2771 April 11, 2024 at 4:44 pm

I know Larson being 2nd in the speed chart is really impressive. If he somehow wins that would be one of the most impressive feats in current motorsports. So many factors he needs to adapt to in Indycar like how the draft works, the elements and obviously racing in those speeds with an open wheel car. That’s why if he somehow wins, that needs national attention

Reply
@bighand1530 April 11, 2024 at 4:51 pm

Yes!

@naparacingfan9275 April 11, 2024 at 4:44 pm

I know it’s just testing but P2 (with a tow lap) in the 1st test is impressive. NASCAR would have superstars if they and their drivers did a better job widely promoting the sport.

The numbers just don’t lie with 63 NASCAR Cup Series wins, 102 Xfinity Series wins all time record and 65 Truck Series wins. He has won 230 race wins in all three Nascar series…Kyle Busch is the real superstar of Nascar.

Reply
@deliriouswhome1 April 11, 2024 at 5:13 pm

No offense to Kyle Busch, but he’s in the Twilight of his career.
If NASCAR currently has a superstar.. it is Kyle Larson.

Reply
@hotkarl92 April 11, 2024 at 5:05 pm

Listen, Larson CAN win the Indy 500, nothing to lose, everything to gain. This is bigger than any other driver attempting the 500.

Reply
@PatrickAdia April 11, 2024 at 5:14 pm

@Eric I actually don’t think Nascar drivers have to do something outside of Nascar to become super stars if we fix the parity issue Kyle Petty mentioned on your other episode. Using your argument for Caitlin Clark, she didn’t do anything outside of college basketball. If we fix the “parity issue” we will allow separation between drivers and separation create super stars. If we don’t, then what Larson is doing would be the only way.
