For 17 years Teresa Earnhardt, the Wicked Witch of the South, has held the DEI font #8 hostage from Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and NASCAR fans alike. Now with the trademark ending on June 3rd though there is hope. This hope has been strengthened into excitement by the news that Dale Earnhardt Jr. Holdings has applied for the rights to the trademark, returning the #8 to its rightful owner. Dale Jr. is about to free the 8!

Hope this happens. Any influence that Teresa Earnhardt has on anything NASCAR-related means that she’s still an albatross around the neck of every NASCAR fan.

I don’t think itd be too farfetched for him to possibly even get 2 charters and bring the 88 back
Unless SHR merges with FRM which is rumored. But still to get the 8 font would be awesome.

My hopes are Jr gets the 8 number font and he adds Jr Motorsports to the cup series and he gets the 8 from RCR (I know that RCR wouldn’t give it to him, but I can dream) and he puts the #8 with the DEI font on the car and he adds a second car which would be the #88.
88 might be the easier number for Junior to get in Cup, it hasn’t been seen since Rick Hendrick renumbered Junior’s old car back to 5 and moving Junior’s successor Alex Bowman to the 48 following Jimmie Johnson’s retirement from full-time Cup racing (Jimmie now makes part-time starts for Legacy Motor Club, which he co-owns, in number 84).
Possibly Jr. just buys out RCR

I actually think Jr is the one driver RC would willingly give the #8. He does have 29 or 30 he could use (since 31 is Kaulig currently) instead if he still wanted to have 2 cars.

Dale Jr is interested in starting a cup program… Problem is RCR currently has rights to the number in the Cup Series… I would like to see Dale Jr get the font and allow RCR to use it for the 8 car, or Hendrick could use it on the 88 Cup Series car…
As for Jr using it, obviously the #8 Xfinity team would change fonts, as does 88, but sadly he doesn’t own the rights for the #1 font that would allow for a whole team change to resemble the old DEI
Currently, the 1 is in good hands rn. The 15 isn’t, though. Also, Richard might be the next Witch considering Sheldon Creed, Ricky Stenhouse Jr, and how they went down. He might be forced to under threat from Kyle Busch (a frenemy of Jr’s)
I’ve been a Jr. fan since I was 6 in 2012…and since then I have been so glad to see his impact on NASCAR as a whole. Hearing that he’s iconic No. 8 back feels so right to me. Rejoice, Jr. Nation!!!!

The Dale Jr. Podcast has gotten me back into NASCAR racing after a long time away from the sport. It would be awesome to see Dale Jr. somehow get a couple of charters and run the 8 and 15 car and maybe somehow get the 1 as well. I’m sure a lot of fans would come back, especially if he’s at the track during race day.
You and me both. I started back with the podcasts a few years ago and ended up back to watching NASCAR because of JR. I was watching when Big E was killed and didn’t watch another race until halfway through the 2022 season. Jr. is THE ambassador for NASCAR. I’d love to see him in NASCAR management.
I became a Dale Sr fan in the mid 90s as a kid and my prime NASCAR fandom was as teen watching Dale Jr in the 8 Bud car. It’s a tragedy of NASCAR history that he wasn’t allowed to keep using his family legacy number that his grandpa used. Dale jr should have always been in the 8.
I’ll believe it once I actually see it. Teresa has been something else all these years. Honestly, she could been very iconic and a huge part of nascar after Dale Sr. passed. But she decided to go down a different route with all of that. I’m glad Dale Jr. has been a huge part of the sport. It would be awesome to see Dale Jr. to have a cup team someday. Maybe he could inquire the 1, 8, and 15. The 8 will definitely be the most difficult one. Trackhouse, RCR, and RWR most likely would sell the rights to those numbers to Dale Jr.; Teresa hopefully will give up the 8 font.
So far, Marks and Pitbull have kept the 1 in good condition, the 15 is more of a concern. Dale left that number for his archenemy’s brother, and now it’s held hostage in a mid team’s garage. RCR should bring back 30 and 31 for Cup to replace the 8 and 29. Trackhouse gets 01, 55, or 56 to replace the 1 and 99, and RWR gets any failing teams charters (most likely Smokes)
When the 8 is left unguarded so the Dale jr Disney Diecast is back on the table
