Over the Memorial Day Weekend Kyle Larson was the biggest story in all of motorsports for attempting the Indy 500/World 600 double. Unfortunately rain decided to rain on everyone’s parade and both postponed the Indianapolis 500 and prematurely end the Coca-Cola 600. This cause Larson not only to skip out on starting the 600 but completely miss it, sparking a debate. The Kyle Larson waiver debate.

Do you think Kyle Larson should or shouldn’t get a Playoff waiver?
I think he should
Should
Of course he should. I just think it is ridiculous to question his eligibility with uncontrollable circumstances “Mother Nature”, at play.
3rd in points (six behind Hamlin)
Yes he should
Imagine if he still wins the regular season and doesn’t get a waiver. Explain that to new fans
The explanation would be, don’t leave your sport to participate in other events outside of your brand that may interfere. But regardless, he’s definitely going to get a waiver, no way NASCAR punishes him like this. Although they could say, he had the opportunity to leave the 500 because the rain and make it in time to his race. So idk. It’ll be interesting to see what line is drawn
lol this is such silly logic from OP. Throw out the rules for new fans.
New fans are stupid and nascar has listen to them too often
NASCAR being NASCAR
@RuSpazzin while I understand where you’re coming from, you just saying that based on your personal feelings. Unless there was a literal rule set in place, you would pretty much have to give Larson a waiver just because of all the other crap they let slide it would seem pretty stupid on the end of Nascar to have this be where they draw the line
I honestly think that Larson should. Just because there’s no other driver in the field right now who on a perfect day could win both races. This weekend he wasn’t able to make it because of the weather which impacted both races. If that day had gone perfectly. No weather. He may still have lost at Indy. But he could have won the Coke 600
Larson needs a waiver. This should not be up for discussion. He couldn’t control the weather, and you can’t forsake the greatest spectacle in racing when you have an opportunity.
He could control where he’s gonna be that day. 😉 He chose not to be at Charlotte.
@@zt5547he chose to miss the BEGINNING of Charlotte, Larson had every intention of finishing the race in the 5 car, the weather shortening the cup race was out of his control
@@jetengnexd4348 Even if Larson finished Charlotte race – it wouldn’t make any difference, the result would count towards the driver who started it (Allgaier).
@jetengnexd4348 if you deliberately choose to miss the start of the cup race you shouldn’t be given a pass. Rules clearly state you need to attempt to start every race. He was neither hurt nor suspended, but instead made a deliberate choice to miss the race.
@@thatonefatguy9043thank god you arent the one in charge of anything
He made it to the track, they stopped the race. He couldn’t have done any thing else given the circumstances.
The rules state that a driver has to start every race. Not get in over halfway. They’ll give it to him though.
@@guygrayson9859 the rule also states ITRC. a term littered in the nascar rulebook. it stands for IN THE RARE CIRCUMSTANCE. its a term nascar uses in its rulebook to do things on a case by case basis
He chose to stay in Indy knowing he would not make it to the start of the 600 instead of getting someone who he put out from racing to sub in the Indy car. Yes it was setup for him and would have been a handicap for a sub but at least the car would have been in the race. He doesn’t deserve a pass all because of his rain delay Indy race. And to all the people who listen to the BS on here the book states he has to start every race not halfway. Yes it’s a case by case basis and in this case he doesn’t deserve a pass. Give him this pass then how is it fair to Lil wiener Ricky (according to Danica) with a 75k fine when NASCAR will use his fight with Busch as promotion? Reckon we’ll see around 2 or 3 tomorrow what NASCAR says.
@@guygrayson9859Exactly!

Found a hater
Why is this even a debate? Rick Hendrick gave him his blessing, NASCAR game him their blessing. And if it weren’t for mother nature being terrible this wouldn’t even be a discussion. Plus, it’s not a random sprint car race in the middle of Indiana, it’s the Indy 500.
Because certain people want to turn everything into a debate..
There not one good reason to not give Larson a waiver..I havent heard one.
The people that don’t want him to have a waiver are the ones that don’t like hendrick or Larson
If NASCAR had points for the whole season like most other racing series, this wouldn’t be a debate. He’d take the points hit if he misses a race, do Indy and try to get back for the other event.
I don’t even why this is a debate because:
1.) He already has 2 wins.
2.) He was the points leader coming into the 600.
3.) They’ve given waivers to more undeserving drivers and we didn’t say anything.
Larson’s going to get a playoff waiver. And if any of y’all get pissed off, go cry into your pillow because no one cares.
I’m not crying. He intentionally picked another series over cup. He knew the potential consequences, now face the music. The rules state you have to attempt every race. He wasn’t hurt nor suspended, but rather chose to miss the race. It shows where his priorities lie.
@@thatonefatguy9043 had the rain not come, he wouldnt have missed the 600.
@thatonefatguy9043 bringing more interest to Nascar in other racing outlets. I think you have it backwards. They are doing them free publicity.
@@thatonefatguy9043 he did everything he could to complete the Indy 500 and make it back to finish the 600. He even made it there, weather prevented him from getting into the car. Your opinion is ignorant. Kyle Larson racing the 500 and attempting the 600 brought eyes to not only him, but nascar and Indy. It benefits every single aspect.
@@thefella9120 *Had FOX not called the race due to TV Contracts.
Yes he should get a waiver but the whole waiver rule has become completely meaningless. It should just be top 16 in points instead of forced win and your win. He’s only 6 points behind 1st after missing a race.
Shouldn’t even be 16. It should be 10 with the field being shortened to 40 drivers the last few years with only 32 or so drivers competing full time the last few years. No reason for half the field to be in the hunt for a championship. 12 at the most.
@@speed4brainz I still think we should go back to 10 guys in on points, 2 guys in on wins outside the top 10 in points, and the playoffs itself should be two 5 race rounds. Cut the playoff field in half after race 5 and the rest battle it out for the championship over 5 races.
@jacobevenson8702 not a bad way to do it considering half usually aren’t even in contention the last 5 races
Just abolish it. Point your way in.
Here’s the new Rule: larson gets the waiver IF
He and rick hendrick have a twerk off at the chicago street race
How dumb are you actually
Honestly the waiver system needs to be thrown into the trash can. If you can make it to cup despite missing a race or two then you should be allowed in.
Of course it doesn’t help that we have the whole “win and your in” gimmick, which is the only reason the mandate for entering every race even exists in the first place.
Exactly!
Indeed. Get in the top 16 in points, or a win and top 20. Does it matter if you missed a race? KB missed 11 races and he was still champ. NASCAR has neither the moral, nor logic highground to NOT grant a waiver.
It wouldn’t be fair to not give him a waiver, I could somewhat understand if he just decided to miss the whole Coke 600, but as soon as Indy was over, he headed straight to Charlotte and would’ve finished the race had it not been for weather. Without weather, an outside factor, Kyle Larson would have finished this race by the rules.
if NASCAR used the winston format he would still be affected but not out of the title fight, perfect balance
NASCAR should get rid of the “must start all races” and replace it with a 2 playoff point penalty for every race they miss regardless of reason
not a bad choice, as those are often erased by the results of one race, especially in the first round.
I agree, unless it’s an injury that happens during a race.
It’s simple: If my boy Matt Kenseth can get a waiver for existing in 2020, or Chase Elliot can get a waiver after being suspended by NASCAR themselves, Larson gets a waiver for trying to go 1,100 racing miles on the biggest day of Motorsports on the year, with it being derailed by rain.
Kenseth got one because he’s a Golden Boy.
Elliott got one as an incentive to not constantly wreck Hamlin during the playoffs.
Difference here is there’s a precedent already in place with Grant Enfinger. Kyle Larson should not get a waiver.
@@Ultimate23Dragonyou didnt explain anything why he shouldnt
I like the idea of a waiver as long as he stays top 16 in points. Not granting one would prevent any regular cup driver from ever again trying the double and would be shortsighted by NASCAR.
Better solution to the waiver rule: just get rid of the win and you’re in system to begin with. Make the regular season points matter.
You physically can not say Larson skipped the 600 when he was shown on live tv heading to his pit box LONG before they threw the red
