The Nashville Superspeedway saw a NASCAR Cup Series record of 5 Overtime attempts to end the event. With it we are once again seeing a debate in 2024 that was prevalent in 2004 and even before. The question of how races should end. So, how many Overtimes should NASCAR allow?

How many attempts at OT do you think NASCAR should allow?
Unlimited!!!
I’d prefer 0 but if we have to have an overtime, I would limit to only 1 attempt
3-5
3
Zero.
I believe that if we get a caution within five laps to go, we race back to the line and finish at the advertised distance. Better to have the race finish under yellow than have absolute chaos making NASCAR an embarrassment to motorsports.
Unlimited restarts are fine this is such a stupid argument we’re having.
I couldn’t agree more. All these YouTubers are having this stupid argument.
People would say the same thing about the NFL, yet they can tie too
Thank you!!
@@nicholassbardella6045only regular, playoffs are must wins
I agree, I noticed the only people talking about this are YouTubers and social media influencers. This is such an oddity that this doesn’t really matter
The thing about limiting it is the fans will probably get mad, and it will cause some major drama.
But also note, we rarely see more than 2 overtime’s, and also note this is the FIRST time we’ve seen this, the first time.
So basically I would keep it unlimited so there isn’t any drama at all, and because we usually don’t see more than 2.
Keeping it unlimited causes more drama
Keep it unlimited it’s so much fun
@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT In other words disregard the teams and drivers in the name of “entertainment”
@@ZPaul_ not even entertaining anyway. Not a care for drivers’ safety and the finances of teams from damages. NASCAR is supposed to be a professional stock car series, not a demo derby
While I thought 5 Restarts were a bit much, to say that the GWC attempts ruined the race is ludicrous. The race tbh wasn’t that eventful UNTIL the GWC finishes. And I hated them this race because my picks ended up not winning. It’s fine the way it is.
The problem with limiting is you get the Kevin Harvick Talladega scenario. Just race the advertised distance and call it a day. Almost every time a race goes to overtime the person leading has not won the race
They last time a race went the scheduled distance Jeff Gordon was pelted with stuff by THE ENTIRE AUDIENCE at Talladega
Harvick had mechanical issues in that race, not a lack of fuel.
I enjoyed the finish of Nashville. Cautions breed Cautions, and the fact that there were so many pit strategies going into the overtime restarts made it that the turn of events was going to happen. I don’t watch the TV broadcast, I listen to the broadcast on the app and being able to see stats of all the drivers live, as soon as the 2 spun out it was going to get crazy. My main thing is that the chaos of the ending of this race is good every once in a while. Obviously, I don’t want a wreckfest every week, but a race finish like this is entertaining to me.
The finish at Nashville isn’t something to flex about, it’s embarrassing & pathetic that we needed 40 minutes to run only 2 laps (but I guess DARFS gonna DARF)
@@C-Rad95 “if you dont like that kinda racing, dont even watch”
@cheetahyoda lmao ok then, there are other Nascar series outside of Cup, Xfinity & Trucks to watch (ARCA, Modifieds, Canada Series, Mexico Series, Euro Series, Brazil Tour) along with IndyCar, IMSA & MotoGP so that insult doesn’t hurt as much as you think (except you’re contributing to a problem that won’t be evident until September (and for this problem, you can’t pull the NFL/Football excuse card forever) & I’ll leave it at that for you to use your imagination)
@cheetahyoda besides, I already know that Nascar ain’t getting rid of GWC’S after 20 years (they didn’t get rid of it after Summer Daytona 2015 when Austin Dillon went into the fence, Fall Dega 2015 or after the 2020 Daytona 500 when Ryan Newman nearly died. What makes you think a 5 OT shitshow will be any different?). If Nascar is gonna change anything to the GWC rule, it will most likely be making it like ARCA where the race has to finish under green no matter what (aka the 2022 all-star race finish that nearly cost Blaney the win)
@cheetahyoda plus Nascar never changes anything in the sport until either someone dies or gets badly injured because that’s the only time Nascar ever changes anything since that is “The Nascar Way”
I wouldn’t prefer the scheduled dustance option, but I’d like to mention that if the yellow happens with more than a couple of laps left, they could quickly red flag it and have a quick shootout. NASCAR themselves did it occasionally in the past (including the ’02 Daytona 500), and IndyCar has done it to this day including in Indy 500s lately. (I guess in response to people not liking the 2020 race ending under yellow.)
As long as it stays a rare occurrence keep it. You can’t say it isn’t exciting. People want strategy and now they complain.
this☝️
You limit it, you get Kevin Harvick
You leave it as is, we get this
You eliminate it and end under yellow, you get angry Chase Elliott fans throwing stuff at Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, or Ryan Blaney simply because they were ahead
So basically all the options would cause problems either way.
@@Thando2010 Nascar fans in a nutshell
I think this is just another example of fans overreacting if NASCAR changes it they’ll just complain about that to its a cycle
Scheduled distance would cure NASCAR fans from sh*tshow syndrome
Unlimited. That’s a big outlier. Won’t happen again for a very long time.
I highly disagree with the opening statement. Unlimited overtimes add drama. Considering how bad passing was. And the fuel strategies used. Caused the chaos at the end. Which isn’t a bad thing
Right?! The most chaos came from guys running out of gas! The strategy play was crazy and wild to see it all work out. The only way you could have avoided that much chaos is to of told the drivers and teams they HAD to pit. Short of that there was nothing to be done and that’s not even a discussion worst having lol.
It’s manufactured, phony drama. If that’s what you want, go watch an opera.
Whatever happens the fans will still complain.
In my opinion, we should do schedules distance. No OT’S, just race the advertised amount of laps.
Time not distance for TV?
I don’t understand why we’re asking about this
This is the first time I’ve seen the unlimited OT option has really played a factor. At least in a while.
And it eliminates or darn near eliminates the possibility of people manipulating the race. (I.E. Kevin Harvick and Talladega in 2015)
I say we keep it as is.
And at the end of the day, NASCAR will do whatever they want to do anyway
That was a blast to watch. Its the first time thats happened. This isn’t some crazy problem that needs to be dealt with lol.
It is a one-off race. Changing anything would be a knee-jerk reaction.
Brother, I don’t think we need to limit this. I don’t think it’s an officiating issue. There must be a change to the current culture in the garage. There is no respect. I think at this point, the owners need to step in and tell their drivers to get their acts together.
