I predict Christopher Bell will win this year’s Chicago street course race
I think you’re right – 2nd best rating (114) at Chicago last year behind SVG (he controlled the first part of the race and looked fast), AVG Road Course Finish in 2024 = 5.5 (tied with Buescher for best), he’s been the best car on track for the last two races (I’d say the last 3.5 races if you count the xfinity race and the last half of Iowa coming from the back of the field). In my opinion, he is THE in form driver right now.

SVG still has the edge on driving to the walls and now has the added knowledge of being able to judge distances from the other side of the car even better. If the car works, he’s gonna be hard to beat

If you look at Van Gisbergens stage results, he improves throughout the race almost every week. He qualifies terribly trying to learn the track on no practice, he starts at the back and end of stage 1 he’s 25rh or lower, end of stage 2 he’s top 20, by the end he’s fighting for top 10. I can’t wait to see him when he’s back at a familiar track.
p.s I tip him to go Back to Back at Chicago™. Street circuits are so narrow they have a single file line, most passing is done under braking. SVG has a different driving technique using the clutch to downshift, matching revs so that the tyres dont bite when he lifts it, helping him brake later and giving him more grip through the corners and a cleaner exit. He’s much more familiar with the Cup car this yeat, he’s had back-to-back xfinity road course wins in the last month…
