The 2024 Brickyard 400 marks the return of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval for the first time in four years and also marking the 30th year since the inaugural event. For the vast majority of NASCAR fans there seems to be a ton of optimism and excitement heading into an event only four years ago many wanted removed from the schedule. So why is there such a disparity in opinion in this time? We want to look at it here. The outlook for the Brickyard 400 has changed.

I was always for the Brickyard 400 and not going to the road course (although I wasn’t against trying it). It’s a crown jewel and it’s the Indy oval. Just because it’s not constant side by side, beating and banging, or isn’t in a superspeedway pack doesn’t make it boring. Strategy would be way better without stage cautions though.
Brickyard’s been a mainstay since Dale Earnhardt became the first man in NASCAR to win at the most prestigious facility in the central US 20 years ago (his successor would be the last after winning in 2003)
Yup, im at the track as of writing this and will be at the track for the rave, just being here is awesome, I don’t really care if the race isn’t constant side by side bullshit
@@sharkk127 I agree man. A lot of people complain about how this race is “boring”. Just being at IMS with cars going around the track is enough for me lol. Such a cool place to be.
Let’s just hope it isn’t 2008 or 2020 again with the tire failures
Fun fact: both years were marred by recession, which contributed to said tire failures (and if not tire failures, the COT did it in, hopefully the Next Gen pulls an Auto Club at the Brickyard)
looking at practice i haven’t seen anything
You know that they tested the tires, right
And that is isnt 2017 with the constant wrecks
The 2020 race wasn’t too bad with tires (especially compared to 2008)
Watching practice right now and the cars look so good on the oval! Very glad to see this race back. Almost 200 into the corners too. About 30 mph drop of speed in the corners too, a little more as the tires wear. I think there might actually be passing too because handling is going to matter, and oddly enough, I think the shifting might actually help in the passing (a lot of cars are downshifting into 1 and 3).
Similar to 1994 lol
What turn were they going almost 200? I thought I only saw low 180’s
There better not be any tire failures, the intermediate package should be used (the one used at Auto Club, Kansas, and Darlington), and no weather delays
Very dumb to have it the same weekend as Eldora’s Kings Royal, I would have gone otherwise
I am going to both but yeah it’s gonna be a packed weekend
Nascar vs Tony Stewart
@@usleadershipareliars i doubt it, they are probably just clueless, this is the same group of people who had a dirt race at Bristol during the middle of the day
Yeah I completely agree what is that about. Maybe trying to cash in on the larson factor?
Let’s be honest dirt fans aren’t exactly a super important demographic to nascar
I dont understand why they chose to race against one of the biggest sprint car races only 100 miles away, not going to help attendance
Nascar executives are braindead
My two biggest theories is that either 1) NASCAR was planning on crushing that race and winning over those fans, or 2) It was the only spot on the schedule they could feasibly put it. Of course, there’s a third theory, but I don’t want to be too negative on certain people.
Probably and f you to stewart or they just ran out of dates. Combination of both probably
@@nascarfanatic2425I think the Olympics played a big part (NBC will broadcast The Olympics in US)
@@AnarRamazanov-po5le That’s true, too.
Year 1 will be a success due to the novelty of it returning, the following years are the real test. They definitely should not run up against eldora’s kings royal week in the future.
Less people care about eldora than Indy
Risky to race against eldora in the sprint car crazy midwest
I live super close to eldora and yes the indy race seems not so hyped around here but I like both racing series.
@@NickClements-x9f what??
I think the oval is cool, it’s about the prestige of winning there and not so much the excitement factor. Really wish they would do a road course/oval double header weekend
Exactly not every race has to be a thrill show
FACTS I want 2 weeks at Indy.
The road course is amazing and half of the grade 1 tracks in the US.
These are tracks that should be the bench marks for road racing in NASCAR.
No
I’m going to be there at Indy this weekend, but not every race has to be a banger of a race. I enjoy strategy races as well, but seeing Nascar Cup cars go around the oval will be awesome either way. We as NASCAR fans don’t really know what we want most of the time. I have been a NASCAR fan for 25 years and these same arguments about what we need to change and what is a good race, etc have always been talked about. Not every race needs to be side by side, closest finish in history to make them special. You can have pack racing, 1.5 mile side by side racing and strategy racing and its all good. That is what makes NASCAR great, that you have all different types of race tracks and types of racing products.
Even if Indy becomes boring I don’t think the strategy of the race will help the race either. In fact Strategy doesn’t always play out as people expect.
Having it the day after eldora is definitely an F you to Tony Stewart
Fun fact: I had a dream last night of being at Indianapolis watching a race that went back and forth from IndyCar to NASCAR every caution
Indy to NASCAR is what Monaco is to F1.
Major crown jewel and everybody wants to win it, however, the racing is generally ok to good at best. It’s perfectly fine though. With INDY it’s about the speedway and winning not necessarily the points standings.
I came all the way down from Canada to see this race for my birthday weekend. Practice was I N S A N E L Y loud, even with headphones. Really hope the racing is good, and it looks somewhat promising so far
I and a lot of other Hoosiers just want a hometown guy to win
hot take i loved the indy road course.
Not that hot, this take appears hotter than it is because the people who hate road courses are a very vocal minority
I’m just looking forward to actually visiting the racetrack. I’ll enjoy the race to obviously, but the main draw is just being in a place thats so important to motorsports in general and being able to soak it all in.
There’s a saying in pro wrestling, that the only way to get what you want, is to leave and come back. Nascar wants more fans at Indy? Leave, and come back. They’ll show up.
This was the race I’ve been waiting for all year and it’s here. Heck, I love the Daytona 500 Talladega short tracks, but boy oh boy this race excites me more than ever let’s go! Go Hendrick motorsports! I like the road course scenery I really liked the 2021 race the best I liked the chaos on the start and restart. The only thing I liked about 2023 was no stage breaks. There should be no stage in general to keep it more natural, but for the sake of drama, I love the starts and restarts! They say they might rotate the road course after 2025 back in. Here’s what I think we need to do keep the oval permanently, but if NASCAR needs another road course to fill in the gap to replace another road course or once in a good while or we go to Indy twice a year for two different events like the Charlotte Oval and Roval! I’m not a Formula One fan, but I challenge Formula One drivers to the Indy oval since they race on that road course
I thought the road course was fine, I’m sure most nascar fans hate it though. And yes, why run against ohio’s biggest oval race the day before?
