Eric, another very important question
Fruity pebbles or froot loops

For me, the late caution made sense at Pocono because the track was wider and had more room to pass. Here, I would’ve thrown it immediately. Mainly because it’s a more narrow track, which means more danger and liability.

Reply
@GiveMeLibertyOrGiveMeDeath147 July 23, 2024 at 8:45 pm

Know what means more danger and liability? When they have to do another restart and more cars run out of gas i.e. Nashville. They didn’t want another Nashville

Reply
@deliriouswhome1 July 23, 2024 at 9:25 pm

That would be true, if there was on coming traffic, but there wasn’t ..until the leaders took the white flag..
This why NASCAR held the caution until then.

Reply
@truckercowboyed2638 July 23, 2024 at 10:11 pm

Well good thing you’re not in control or we’d still be in Indy trying to decide the winner

Reply
@lunamelody2025 July 23, 2024 at 10:13 pm

@@deliriouswhome1 While true, I still think that’s wrong and careless. It would’ve been better to throw it and not hold it off, because Preece was near the exit of Turn 2. If Preece was at least halfway through the straightaway or near the beginning of Turn 3, then it would’ve been more right to hold it.

It’s not the first time they’ve waited until AFTER the white flag to throw a yellow for an incident that took place with 2 to go. A perfect example is Pocono 2023 when [ironically] preece spun & they stayed green until after hamlin took the white flag.

Reply
@ZVPieGuy July 24, 2024 at 6:47 am

Yeah, that’s exactly what Elton Sawyer said in the quote that Eric read.

Reply
@painfullyaveragegamer July 23, 2024 at 9:54 pm

Hey Eric. The main reason people are mad with the Brad penalty is that this is something Larson (and many others) did as well. Brad had two tires over instead of his whole car (Elliott did this). This is why we are mad not that they happened but that they kinda make it look like it was picked and chosen who got the penalty.

Their instructions were ambiguous, and didn’t match the officiating precedent of the previous Brickyard oval races.

@eddiemaestas4734 July 23, 2024 at 10:16 pm

The call makes sense because the officials were watching to see if the car was going to be able to get moving but when they realized that the car wasn’t going to move they knew they had to throw the caution so cars aren’t flying by at over 100 miles an hour.

@holdenmcmillen4307 July 23, 2024 at 10:35 pm

Something that hasn’t been talked about last weekend, but fits the theme of NASCAR’s inconsistent officiating, was the Anthony Alfredo incident in the Xfinity race. He and Daniel Dye made contact off turn 1, enough to where Alfredo’s steering broke. When he hit the wall in turn 2, that should’ve warranted a caution. Instead, they let the race play out, and Alfredo collected Josh Williams and Parker Retzlaff. That was a big safety concern that NASCAR was late to react

Elton Sawyer is a paid puppet for the higher ups in NASCAR, Mr. France and his Dad were great leaders and founders. Wish they were still with us. It seems money drives the sport now.

@toddmanger7194 July 24, 2024 at 11:47 am

this goes back to nascar having different officials in cup vs the xfinity series. If that were cup officals seeing that xfinity wreck with Daniel Dye and AA then they might of reacted quicker.

@Engrphotog21 July 23, 2024 at 11:17 pm

In the time they had to throw the caution for Preece, I could have exhumed my dead grandmother and had her throw the caution. Someone in NASCAR had a flight to catch and didn’t want a repeat of Nashville.

I don’t think 37 other crew chiefs knew the blend line rules. Elliott was one of the first drivers to pit under green and that penalty caught the attention of all other crew chiefs

Reply
@user-uu9vh4zg5v July 24, 2024 at 7:23 am

EXACTLY. The others didn’t understand it, they just found out when Elliot got hammered. That is not the way rules should be promulgated.

Reply
@toddmanger7194 July 24, 2024 at 11:49 am

they could just simply pain those parts of the outside line yellow, reminding the drivers dont cross out passed this point with any part of the car. Just like the yellow line at Daytona

4:15 I have been saying for years that on bigger oval tracks, Nascar should put the choose box on the back stretch, just like they do on road courses. It would eliminate a lap behind the pace car on restarts like that. Think about this- last year at the Indy Road Course (2.439 miles) they chose on the back stretch. This year on the Indy Oval (2.500 miles) they chose at the start line.
