A meaningless one so they can say they took action while simultaneously condoning this behavior.

Whine all you want. The playoffs/overtime finish encourage these shenanagins. If you truly want to eleminate 99% of these cases, get rid of the playoffs to go back to a season long points format and eleminate overtime
Dillon deserved this win, had a 3 second lead with two to go before the overtime finish forced him to do this. Cut it however you want, this win he deserved

I mean, Mr. Sawyer, if this doesn’t rise to the level to require a penalty, then that’s a dangerous precedent. If one of the racers at the track where I’m a steward did this, I expect they would be banned for life.

Reply
@STC987 August 12, 2024 at 3:42 am

But local tracks are far more legitimate than WWE on wheels. NASCAR is trending down over the past 20 years for many reasons and it’s not lack of interest in racing. It’s lack of interest in gimmick racing.

Chill man, this is not a decision you want to make lightly. Let then talk about the best course of action, then you can critique their solution if it doesn’t feel adequate.

Reply
@BornIn1500 August 12, 2024 at 5:29 am

The drivers at your local track probably can’t afford to replace their cars, so it would make sense to ban things like this. The equipment in NASCAR gets replaced fairly easily.

@notboeingnotgoing5483 August 12, 2024 at 7:35 am

That is exactly spot on and correct. I worked in motorsports for many yrs (NASCAR, Cart, IndyCar, IMSA) this sets a horrible precedent, and I can think what our chief steward Wally Dallenbach senior would do and say to competitors that did something like this. This puts Beaux Barfield in a horrible position for the France family in IMSA. I personally know Elton & Patty , he is a level headed person. Elton and his wife have made a living in Nascar for 30+ years and he’s in a unique position because he strapped himself into these machines and risk his life so he has the insight ….question is does the France family let him rule as he should. Tuesday should be interesting

Reply
@tylerjones9309 August 12, 2024 at 3:36 am

This is why fans had different opinions on the finish of Indianapolis, just follow the rule book if it hurts a team like it did Blaney, because Brad somehow thought he could make it on fuel. They followed the rules it benefitted Larson and didn’t for Blaney. Inconsistency doesn’t help grow your fan base. Just ask baseball, would say the NFL but that would be wrong, even though their officiating is just like NASCAR let’s swallow the whistle or caution/penalty decision for a green finish.

They didn’t take away his win or give Dale Sr. a penalty when he did that to Terry Labonte at Bristol 2 different times. The #3 didn’t mean to hit him I am sure, he just got into the corner to hot, it was just a racing deal, isn’t this why you watch NASCAR for controversary.

Dillon’s move has nothing to do with proper racing. I hope Nascar will take the win away from him. He did not even try to overtake Joey.
