Nascar created this issue. Not taking away anything from Austin tonight on his win, but there is no scenario where he should have a chance to win a championship based off 1 good run, while bottom 30 in points
from what it looked like to me as soon as he got under he locked up the brakes or something but no matter what happened he wasn’t going to make the corner no matter what
UPDATE: Elton Sawyer says that NASCAR will review the finish of tonight’s race to determine if penalties are warranted.
My guess – like I said in the video – is that they could issue a points penalty, fine, or suspension depending on what they see in the SMT/radio. I would be surprised if they took away the win, but anything is possible.
so get rid of the god damn playoffs, the france family don’t have brains for creating points format, bill france jr wasn’t good, his highschool friend latford had 100% brains but not brian france, neither jim france is too old, he seems old enough to knock biden out of the election instead of coming up with a new format, JESUS FUCKING Christ
I like that young man. Hope to see him in cup in a really good car in the future. Not knocking MBM, they’re out there doing the thing when many have given up these past few years.
I’m a Logano fan, and I saw this coming a mile away before it ever played out. Austin had the car to beat and was flawless on the track and the crew had the best average pit times all night. I have zero idea why they chose to take the bottom on the restart, but I said, if Joey beats Austin on the start and into the corner he better clear him so far that Austin can’t catch him. Austin has been beat up for years for not closing the deal or even living up to the Intimidator’s black #3, with calls for him to move to the front office of RCR! It’s open knowledge Austin brought in KB to help improve the cars, in Austin’s defense! I say all that to say, it makes it obvious it’s a culmination point that if you beat him into the corner after Stenhouse has pissed him off two laps from the finish, he’s going to be willing to Dale Earnhardt you in order to win! Get ready!
We all knew logano was gonna snag that win when he got the top. Logano is a clutch driver and should of won, there was no way he could of defended that bonehead move by Dillon
We could’ve praised him… even if he didn’t win the race we would praise his speed tonight. But now he ruined it all. Hope he feels good when he wakes up tomorrow.
I think it may be time to take away either “win and you’re in” or “overtime restarts” for 2025 or 2026. Dillon raced very cleanly, taking dozens of laps to pass Lagano and Hamlin properly in the last stage without using the bumper. There is 0% chance this would have happened If the race would have ended under caution like the old days or if he didn’t feel like he HAD to win at all costs for his team to get into the championship.
Like Eric said don’t hate the player hate the system, the doors always been wide open for stuff like this and what would u rather have the fia take over and completely ruin NASCAR by saying u can’t even pass a car. And struck how much funding can be used in the off season for upgrades like screw that dude, I’d rather see this happen, if this was 2022 I’d see more of a reason to be ticked about this because the cars weren’t safe, but we haven’t seen a concussion in over a year, so get over it and move we all know Dillons a first round exit, just accept the fact he might the reason ur favorite driver makes the second or third round and not be out in the first

This is what NASCAR wanted with the win and in system

The real villain here isn’t Austin Dillon, it’s Ricky Stenhouse. If that idiot didn’t take out the 41 we wouldn’t be here
More like Wrecky Spinhouse

Stenhouse is not an idiot, just got loose heading into the corner…
It was Preece’s fault for the accident, Stenhouse held his line slightly up the track and Preece came down and hooked himself.

That was a classic last lap of a GT7 daily race. We can be disgusted all we want but, it won’t change the stat sheet.

Did Dillon complete post race tech?
Does this bring encumbered wins back from 2017?
He wrecked them both. Shouldn’t be a fkn discussion
Dillon cleared post race tech though. That would open up a whole other can of worms.
Ngl I hope Denny wins
The intro says it all. Dillion isn’t innocent but NASCAR does allow people to basically wreck each other whenever they want
Yeah Hamlin said this in his post race. That’s said, Hocevar is a direct result of allowing this kind of garbage and younger drivers seeing that.
dillon is desperate for wins he would’ve done it with or without the playoffs
Exactly. NASCAR is to blame for NASCAR looking like the gorgeous ladies of wrestling.

Remember in ‘15 when Denny said at Martinsville “How can we even crown a real champion? It’s just the wild Wild West.” This still holds true today.
Denny helped create the wild wild West

Can we give credit to Parker Retzlaff for completing all the laps and keeping the car clean tonight
happy for him, obviously MBM isn’t a good ride but he brought the 66 home in one piece. Not a bad debut for him given the car
Definitely a solid start. He’ll be getting more opportunities in both series, especially since he didn’t damage the car at all tonight.

oh he’s doing better than i expected this season.
I thought he was like 5 laps down
This is what NASCAR wants if we are all being honest here.
To think they want actual racing is to believe in a fairy tale. No more real than Harry Potter.
NASCAR didn’t need Austin Dillon to look like a joke to other professional racing organizations. They do that on their own nearly weekly
Birds of a feather flock together.

Wins a demo derby
And has to dump 2 guys in one corner to win now
Dillon has 2 wins. Not 5

I don’t think his win should be stripped, but maybe a one race suspension for right hooking somebody plus a fine
As long as they don’t grant a waiver, then that’s fair.
Truex’s team working on their impressive masterclass performance on how to make a great driver miss the playoffs.
Once again!
3:52 I am convinced these “late” cautions by veteran drivers are some type of behind the scenes plays. They always seem incredibly intentional.
