This was a mistake, Zane is very talented and the second half of this season is proving that. The 71 team is just finding their groove

No, it was not a mistake. I think ever since the truck title, he’s fallen off a cliff, and I feel like I’m the only one that views his 2023 season in trucks as a championship hangover, because it really fucking was. Yeah he got those 2 wins early and probably should’ve won Kansas in the fall, but he was no where near contention for wins besides that.
The pit road mistake at Talladega and bad strategy at Homestead had him out of the final 4, even in his last truck start at Phoenix he made a rookie mistake on a restart and crashed himself out in front of the guy who would win the title. 2024 has been that, rookie mistakes, really bad rookie mistakes. The only reason he’s had those good finishes is because of certain circumstances, guys crashing, and running out of gas. If we take that out, I think the only good run he had was running top 10 at Texas on strategy. Besides that, he’s been awful. You can look back at that Bristol crash on the first restart where the guy had 10 seconds to hold the fucking brakes before hitting Reddick. Even Harrison Burton got a top 10 before him.
He can rebuild and start back from trucks but I feel like Trackhouse releasing him was the right decision.
Let’s face it: SVG’s learning curve was WAY AHEAD of what people expected!! but Zane won’t be seatless so that’s good. I’m a McDowell fan n will be cheering for him tonight!!!
I want nothing more than for McDowell to win tonight. Mostly because he deserves it, he’s a great driver. But secondly because I want more cutline chaos lol
