I couldn’t stop laughing at how his temper tantrum & impatience caused him a hell of a lot more time than a longer pit would’ve.
1:29 Justin Allgaier pit stop is a big fail because not only he overshoot his pit stall but he also broke one of the air guns that changes the tires
That stop was all Justin’s fault. He overshot the pit. Then wanted to act like a prick and get pissed off and just gunned it while his crew was still working. He could have majorly hurt his crew member that had that gun in his hand.
Ram Fanfromok I had a feeling people might think it’s all Justin’s fault but it’s a mix in my opinion. After they got it in the box the crew had no idea what to do and they didn’t change the right rear but changed the right front which was a big mistake on the crew
KKB I can see your point there. But there’s just no excuse for him to throttle up while the crew is still trying to get that tire on there. Like I said, could’ve broke that guys hands.
That’s putting it mildly. While he technically would be required to serve a pass through penalty, that right front would be destroyed! Might as well take the car back to the truck.
@Aaron Davidson as soon as the jack drops the drivers are instructed to go. take 2? on the drop, take 4? on the second drop. unless you are told hold for fuel. it is all told to them before pulling in the pit. the spotter is the one talking to the driver during the stop. the driver is just listening. takes a moment for the spotter to say back up back up. then another moment to say stop stop stop. look at all the drivers who were told “stop” when they just started. the driver has to interpret all those commands and then respond accordingly, when your brain is saying no that can’t be I just started.
Alternate title: Ya hate to see it.

For Kenseth that’s the most stupid thing with the damage vehicle policy, and overall with the “too many men over the wall” ruling. He has a valid point, just because one extra person is over, he’s not allowed to **race** ?!
Rules are rules, even those made by fools.
Its an arbitrary rule, like many in NASCAR, but everybody knew about it and the crew chief should have been all over the plan before the car ever got there.
I get the idea of the too many people over the wall. In F1 there’s like 3 people working on each tire and then there’s additional people working on adjusting aerodynamics and stuff, so there is feels like 10 – 20 people on the pitlane at once and I think Nascar just doesn’t want that to happen. But I really don’t understand why that rule would be different for damage policy vs normal race.

Meanwhile you can throw objects, even flammable ones, in the middle of the track like it was Mario kart and you only get a penalty lmao.

@Dhruvesh Patel NASCAR races used to be far more dangerous than they are now. While many of the regulations seem kinda weird, NASCAR has to take a hard line on a lot of the rules because not too long ago it was common for crew members to get hit by other cars. Even now they still get hit somewhat often, but there were a couple crewman deaths in the 1970s-90s and nascar doesn’t want that to happen.
@Dhruvesh Patel I notice a severe lack of signaling for when the driver is good to go, unlike F1 where they have flags, lights, etc.
Radio communication can be ineffective in pressure moments, and of course the drivers want to get out of the pits as soon as possible.
not to mention the crew is jumping over a wall into the pit area while a car is moving into position, half the crew runs in front of the car while its trying to stop, they run in front of the car again when its dropped off the jack and is ready to go and there is no pit lane speed limit. holy crap it just seems flat out dumb.
@slickstrings there is a pit lane speed limit its bettween 35 and 50 depending on the track

Simple solution then, if your about to fall use your head (literally) and balance on your helmet until the car leaves so you won’t be counted.
Xavier Corum shouldn’t be disqualified either. If anything a time penalty or a drive through..something other than that. I could be wrong on the punishment thing but nonetheless
Josh Davis only time your disqualified is if you have too many people over when you are on the 5 minute clock for repairs. Otherwise it’s either a pass through or tail end.
I get the foot part of it but wtf with the hand? Ppl don’t walk on their hands. It’s obvious if your hand touches the ground it not because your trying be an active part of the “over the wall” crew. Stupid.
He technically didn’t touch the pit with any body parts, the tire he reached for was touching the pit meaning he didn’t touch it himself the tire did
Just make the rule “if they assist”. If someone is catching themselves that’s a different situation.
4:27 crewman runs to get a tire. Like many big mistakes I’m guessing that crewman didn’t need 2 other people to tell him how dumb of a mistake it was. Still, a NASCAR official physically restrains him and presumably chew him out, then there’s radio chatter (probably the crew chief) with the threat of being fired if anyone ever does that again.
Seems to me there was improper/lack of training followed by an ego trip, followed by someone losing their patience.
Unfortunately many of us have a tendency to let our ego get involved when mistakes are made and it results in more problems.
I wonder if he’s more angry about the dropping of the tyre than the chasing after it.

Honestly it’s most likely a liability issue, it’ll come down to money in the end. Maybe the insurance situation is better if a tire gets hit by a driver and kills 2 people than if a pit crew does something stupid and gets hurt.

@IkLms nooooooo, if Nascar got crews as big as f1 I would hate it. As a guy that’s done pit crew it is way more fun, challenging, and demanding the fewer people you are allowed over the wall. It would also reduce the variations in pitstop times which would lead to less action during pitstops and more predictive races!
If you want to risk getting penalized by having people leaning that far over the wall then go for it.
Let’s say you reduce it to stepping over the wall with one of your feet. People will always find a way to abuse that.

They don’t give the crew enough credit. When the car yanked the gun off the pressure hose it could have broken his arm or worse.
@McGuire316 It does matter actually, but it depends on how you define a “claim”. If a person says “X is true” and a second person says “No it isn’t”, the onus is entirely on the first person to prove their statement is correct and the second person has no obligation to prove anything. Now, if the second person replied “No it isn’t, Y is true.” then the first person would still be obliged to prove that X was true, however, the second person would only have to prove that Y is true, not that X isn’t.
@Kristopher Ganzel I disagree entirely. If you state something as fact then you should back it up regardless if it’s the original argument or counter argument. If you state “X is true,” then you should say “X is true because Y.” If you state “False, A is true,” then you should say “False, A is true because B.”
@McGuire316 Burden of proof is only on those who make a positive or absolute negative claim. Ones making a general negative (like, “I don’t believe there is a chair in the room”) don’t bare burden of proof.
Regardless of being the first claim or the counter claim, or which one is true or false , ANY opinion that a person cannot or WILL NOT provide further articulation is of little value
It’s amazing how few mistakes pit crews make. So many pits per race and so few incidents like this. It says something that these are the exceptional moments.

Being an F1 guy, I look at these pitcrews and marvel at the amount of work they go through in one single stop. No wonder there’s hiccups here and there.
To imagine that there’s just 6 guys and they have to change 4 tyres, refuel the car, maybe adjust something or buff out some race damage in that short amount of time. Pretty mind blowing.
A few things would just not fly in F1, like leaving the pitlane with a fueltank stuck to the car and shaking it off or doing a full lap and bring it back home. Same with loose wheels. When a tyre is loose on an F1 car, it has to stop immediately and the race is done for that driver.
Yeah the lack of awareness, and safety in Nascar is pretty insane. Especially the fuel tank debacle.
The official putting his hands on a crew member is extremely ill advised.
