Hope he makes a speedy recovery. After a year like 2022, I think he could have another awesome season.

Chase Elliot is my favorite driver in the Cup Series, I want to wish him a speedy recovery and I hope he can be back at the racetrack soon.

As a huge Chase fan this is painful. I hope he recovers quickly and can get back to winning. Also, good luck to Josh Berry this weekend.

Kyle Larson will pick up the slack for Hendricks.

@Dan Daniels Hopefully. Bowman is my pick for this weekend. I think the drivers will be motivated to do well for Chase.

Im willing to bet they will start him a few races and bring him down pit and driver switch. Of course thats just assuming, but thats what i feel like Chase is gonna want to do just to say he started the race.

David land if he was home and not covering Indy car race probably would have had a bathrobe braking news video about it

Firstly, best wishes on recovery Chase, get back in the saddle soon

As to this, yeah I think they have to just save their fun with more risky activities in November/December/January. Back in the 90s/2000s/early 2010s it would be easier to justify given more sponsorship presence, but now that it’s much thinner teams can’t afford to have their premier drivers get hurt and potentially anger/scare away funding. Maybe if NASCAR gets a second resurgence it’ll be more practical, but as of now it’s not a wise option

Eric, I was waiting for you to talk about Josh Berry filling in for Chase Elliott and I was surprised that you didn’t really get into that. Now we do know that Josh has no real experience in a competitive Cup car. For those that do not know about Josh Berry, he is immensely talented and extremely intelligent and without a doubt has cup level talent. It’s a real shame that he hasn’t had the opportunities earlier in life. That said, He’s still young enough, he has a ton of ability when it comes to getting the most out of a race car and knowing what that race car needs to make it faster. he is unquestionably one of the very best short track drivers ever. Typically I wouldn’t expect very much from a substitute driver and history has shown that no matter how good that sub is, the situation and task at hand is a very tall mountain to climb. For the most part I expect Josh to take care of the race car and for Vegas to be somewhat of a learning experience, at least certainly in the first half of the race. however I would not be surprised one bit for Josh to bring that car home in the top 10 or even top five. That’s saying a lot but Josh Berry is that good. Josh is the guy that tutored William Byron and Noah Gragson and others and has actually helped Chase be better years ago. With Chase requiring surgery, I would expect Josh to be filling in for at least the next few weeks. I certainly hope that Chase heals quickly and is back soon but I’m also excited about this opportunity for Josh Berry. If he gets a few races in that nine car like it appears he will, then look out because this guy’s talent level is off the charts. Josh is a future cup winner, many times over, but that really shouldn’t be news to anyone.

Yeah sorry I went long on that one. Of course Chase being out is the big story, not Josh filling in, but I’m excited to see what he can do. He just needs time in the car. Unfortunately Atlanta and COTA are up after Phoenix and those aren’t great tracks for showing Josh’s ability. He’s been solid on Road courses with no experience prior to Xfinity and then ATL is a smaller Daytona now. If Josh is in that car for the stretch coming here in 4-5 weeks with Martinsville and Richmond, I would expect he’ll really turn heads. Those are his kinda tracks. Too bad Bristol will be buried in mud. I think they may put someone else in the car for Atlanta and COTA. These upcoming races are bad tracks for a guy with a broken, surgically repaired leg, so I do think Chase will be out at least a month, probably 6-8 weeks. I’m certain Chase will come back and be fine, continue to improve. Even though he’s won the championship race, he’s still a young guy that keeps getting better.

@Greg Vandy Josh is the bigger story. Chase hurt himself and will be out for a while, but he’s not dying or losing physical ability permanently so there’s not much to discuss since nothing will change until he heals. As for Josh, he has an opportunity that has the potential to be huge. It could also fail miserably although I highly doubt that. It’s very possible that Josh could show amazing finishes, possibly even a win. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing Josh in the car after spending years watching Chase be mostly under the level of where even his biggest fans expected him to be thru all of his cup years. *Hopefully nobody gets mad and starts with the “but he’s a champion!” because, well, that doesn’t mean what it once did.

Hoping and praying Chase makes a full and quick recovery.

As for Josh Berry, while I’m positive that he’d want different circumstances for it, I think he’s looking for an opportunity to show how he does in the Cup Series in case of an opening in the near future.

This is heart breaking as a fan of Chase. He has looked pretty good the first two weeks this season. Hope he makes a quick recovery and comes back on fire like Kyle did.

I feel so bad for Chase. I hope he recovers quickly. I’m also excited for Josh, a gritty short tracker and a hard worker who has earned the opportunity. I hope he does well. #9 hat gonna slap a little different this weekend.

Wishing Chase a speedy recovery. Depending on the extent of the injury he’ll probably be out around 2 months.

I wonder what type brake it is that would determine how long he’ll be out.

Asking a young athlete not to take risks with himself is like asking the sun not to rise. Risk is their business. That’s what greatness is about.
Get well soon, Chase.
