Absolutely well deserved for Carl Edwards a driver that left nascar way way way to soon and he definitely could’ve won multiple championships if he was still racing today, but I totally respect his decision to leave the sport say what you want he should be a future hall of famer regardless of what people say

He should have kicked out for what he did to BK !!!

Edwards left because Nascar is a clown show and stole his Championship from him.

@Speed Hunter Hate to say it, but if you look at the potential champions of nascar without playoffs, Edwards would’ve been a 2x champion…

Imagine if Edwards started a race team

As he comes from a successful farming family where he’s also fully employed he probably doesn’t have the time for that. If you haven’t seen it, Kenny Wallace on his YT channel did a great piece about why Carl Edwards may have left NASCAR in the first place. So if you haven’t seen that it’s also worth your time…

Carl is wayyyy to cheap to do that. He won’t waste the money as a team owner

I don’t think he’d waste his time or money on anything nascar after what they did to him. Good on him for turning his back to the bullshit and walkin away.

@CLT2271 only way I could see him racing would be if they get rid of stages. And maybe not even that. SRX is probably the best pick if anything

@Carl Tindall you guys gotta give it up. He’s never coming back to NASCAR.

I don’t think you will see any retired cup drivers who haven’t been in the new car substituting for anyone.

Awesome hearing the news about Carl, wasn’t my favorite driver, but his win celebration is iconic. Met him personally at Ford Field in Michigan, right before the great Midwest blackout in 2003.

You really should be proud of this channel. It truly is the most cogent news I receive on Nascar and you make it interesting and show love for the sport.

100% agree. Can’t wait to see him in the broadcast booth. Not if, when.

9:35 There is no statute of limitations. I specifically remember Earnhardt, Wallace, Terry LaBonte, & others admitting to dumping people on short tracks for something that had happened months or even years before. Earnhardt once made a reference to it, in a post race interview saying something like “he knows what he did” & “race car drivers never forget”.

Yup ..That was real racing. I just meant to rattle his cage….I just moved him out of the way… Now…Modern race cars have a tear tank…. HE TOUCHED ME!!! ….. PENALTY!!!…

Awesome response it just goes to show how drivers have changed and how some fans and bloggers have just gone along with it, if NASCAR is going to let Corey LaJoie and Kyle Busch sort it out on the track he should let Denny and Ross do the same thing

Carl Edwards, congratulations on the nomination. A true class act! As a fan, he left way before his time and am disappointed he isn’t involved in racing in some degree. Broadcasting, Nascar/SRX? Time for a comeback!

Thank you Eric for the clip with Carl Edwards. At the time he was racing, he was my #1 favorite driver, backflips and all. I was SO disappointed when he retired (much too early), but I understood his reasons (family). Wish he would come and do some race commentary once in a while…..

I’m very glad to hear that Carl Edwards was named one of the 75 greatest drivers. I always liked him as a driver and as a person. He seemed to have a great personality. I was so disappointed when he decided to leave racing. I would love to see him in the SRX series. Congrats Carl. !!!
Whats fair & whats not. You have to ask yourself why did NASCAR allow Ross Chastain to advance his finish position by intentionally wrecking himself (Hail Mellon) to beat out Denny Hamlin, Knocking Denny out of the play-offs. I think Denny still owes Chastain for that one! I’m just sayin’.

I don’t know if anyone caught this, but there was a lot of interesting chatter on Erik Jones radio at Talledega regarding the race. The Erik, his crew chief, and his spotter all noticed the third lane would stall out when the middle and third lane started side drafting each other. For some reason the middle lane would only side draft the top lane which would pull them both back. Also there is a disconnect in the Chevy camp. Jones was reminded on what drivers he would work with him and which wouldn’t. His crew chief even said all other Chevy treat them like other manufacturers. It appeared Hendricks, trackhouse and RCR would not work with the smaller teams. Jone’s spotter and crew chief said right before the restart that the 5 will dump the 42 before the restart.

I think the LaJoie/Busch thing was a perfect example of drivers policing themselves. Congrats to Carl, I would love to see him come back in some form, he was great for the sport. Good report Eric!!!

Agree with your second point on the no penalty to Lajoie issue. Corey and Kyle were having a very physical battle on the track for position, but it was clearly hard racing. What Hamlin did was much different in that he purposefully drove himself and Chastain into the fence simply to keep the 1 from getting a better finish than the 11. If NASCAR handed out penalties every time drivers got frustrated and door slammed each other, there wouldn’t be anyone left to race. But wrecking someone and saying “I’m taking him with me” is completely different.
