The moment that I remember most from him actually didn’t take place in NASCAR but in the 2012 Dakar Rally where he was accused by fellow competitors in the car class (mainly ones from the Peugeot team) of using an illegal tire inflation system on his Hummer & was DQ’d from the rally following stage 9. Gordon then appealed the decision to the FFSA (who are in charge of the organization that runs the Dakar). The crazy thing about this is that Gordon was still allowed to compete in the rally while this appeals process was taking place. Two months after the Dakar had finished, the FFSA upheld the disqualification & Gordon was removed from the race results.

@deebzz_4843  fine for him to get dumped, but not payback… even people that weren’t Robby fans knew he won that race

Had he stuck to one racing series, the guy would have legendary stats, but…..

The main issue with Robby’s team was his constant manufacturer changes. He did stay with Toyota for 2 years but unfortunately with Jim Beam leaving his team pretty much started its slow death in 2010.

I do feel bad for Robby, along with Front Row & Joe Nemechek for having to deal with Kevin Conway & Extenze

Reply
Jack Ahlers June 16, 2023 at 3:18 am

Out of all the teams Extenze screwed over, FRM was the only one to make it out unscathed.

@Jack Ahlers I’m still surprised about that cause Bob Jenkins was putting his own money into 3 Cars with him being a franchise owner of Taco Bell, Long John Silvers & A&W Foods. Those companies weren’t really paying the team. I guess Bob Jenkins is very rich.

My favorite Robby Gordon moment was when he was racing Kurt Busch at Watkins Glen in 2006…… that I feel like really goes under the radar because of all his controversies

Side note: I would also like to see a video on the Friskar family, (the family that owned a stake in SMI, and singlehandedly changed NASCAR’s labor day tradition for DECADES)….

How about when Robby threw the roll bar padding out the window to create a caution?

He got caught on camera & it blew up into a big thing.. He was interviewed post race & obviously lied lol

It’s not that he lied about it.. It’s just that it was painfully obvious that he was lying & no one pushed back on him at the time.. That’s what I remember the most about Robby Gordon.

The Penalty against Robby Gordon for the contact between him and Marcos Ambrose at Montreal in 2007 was Complete Bull and Yeah He should have won that race

Reply
Robert Stone June 16, 2023 at 2:59 pm

The only fair thing to do would have been put ambrose in the back with him. Or dq ambrose for contact under yellow. Robbie handled it like a cry baby though and that’s the story of Robbie Gordon even when he’s right and he was wrongly treated he handles it so poorly that no body cares any more about what was don’t to him and only about what he’s doing now. Like shooting a guy for stepping on your foot yes he’s in wrong but no body cares calls you just shot a guy.

My favorite Robby moment is obscure as hell. I was scanning at the Bristol night race. He was in the 31 for RCR. I got the feeling Robby couldn’t help himself and had squawked at Richard on the radio for every perceived injustice all season. It went something like …
Robby : “Hey Richard, this penalty is so unfair, Jimmie Johnson just did the same thing and they didn’t penalize him for it. It makes me so mad when I get treated like this Richard, Ask NASCAR why the rules are different for me than for everybody else I just don’t understand it Richard” Richard’s Response : “10-4″…. I howled, what else was RC going to be able to say that satisfied Robby? It can’t be done.

I remember that too. Very clearly now that you mention it. Robby seemed to always, always let his temper rule his decisions. I admire his tenacity, but Robby had no ability on pavement. I always wondered, why in the hell RC hired him in the first place. Robbys constant temper and ability to humiliate himself made Krt Busch’s 3 years on bath salts look tame.

Robert Stone June 16, 2023 at 2:50 pm

Some one should have told him when he was a boy the number one rule to society: the rules are different for different people calls people are different. Life’s not fair and bitching about it only makes you look worse. Jimmy got away with it calls he’s Jimmy and you didn’t calls your only Robbie. Some people never get this life fact through there head.

Using the NASCAR 06: Total Team Control career mode soundtrack for this video is a very nice touch. It really sets the tone for talking shop, business dealings, and lawsuits. Takes be back to the old days on the PS2.

Interesting. Never knew about all of his legal battles. I think what epitomizes his career would be the end of the 2001 Sonoma race between him, Tony Stewart, and Kevin Harvick. He got so enamored with racing the lapped car of harvick that he threw away a win by Stewart passing him and going on to win.

Robby was always one of the most entertaining drivers on the circuit. Plus in the 2000s he was one of the few full time Cup drivers who could be competitive on a road course.

My favorite moment with Robby Gordon is from Indy. It was when Robby was driving for Felix Sabates. Robby had been complaining all race that he didn’t have any power and he knew that the engine department was not giving him the good or best stuff. Felix, about 2/3 into the race finally had enough and chewed Robby out using around 10 to 15 f-bombs. I was lucky to be at that race and have my scanner to hear that epic rant from Felix.
