now that teams have had a season to try out new schemes we are getting some real bangers

Reply
Cassi Nameloc January 24, 2023 at 6:32 pm

Hendrick is on that bandwagon too!

Craig Stephenson January 24, 2023 at 10:11 pm

@Cassi Namelocexcept Chase Elliott’s new Napa scheme. Major step down from last year imo

connor bingel January 24, 2023 at 10:25 pm

@Craig Stephenson
Honestly I like it better. His 2021 scheme was probably my favorite but Napa schemes have never been great

@connor bingel I can’t get behind the roof being half white, not a fan of it at all

I really hope that the Logano paint scheme becomes a diecast

Reply
Davi Clar January 25, 2023 at 2:00 am

Do they make those anymore, diecasts?

Reply

I’d buy it right now and I’m not even a Logano fan

Reply
Thats Bad TV January 25, 2023 at 3:00 am

@Davi Clar Lionel makes them, sometimes the teams themselves do , Hendricks diecasts are on his website

It will. Just another paint job to sell die cast and money for the teams.

Praying that NASCAR can figure out the issues with the short ovals. The championship shouldn’t be decided on a track as boring as Phoenix the way it is right now. So whatever they can do to make this track exciting again, I’m all for it. Let’s hope it pans out.

John Nyquist January 24, 2023 at 7:31 pm

Phoenix is better than most if you go in person.

Reply
Wesleyem3 January 24, 2023 at 8:35 pm

@John Nyquist I’ve been there pretty much every year since 2013, and I can’t say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed a race there in a long time. 2022 was especially bad.

Wyattizer January 24, 2023 at 6:35 pm

The only thing that worries me about this test is that if they change the spoiler size on the 1.5 tracks like Vegas and Kansas, I worry the racing won’t be as great. Hopefully NASCAR can see that and will only change the spoiler used for the short tracks and road courses In particular last year

that 22 scheme would be soooo badass if the number was back in the center. Please NASCAR, put the numbers back in the center and bring back contingency decals! Make a stock car look like a stock car again!

Ken Block, he left a huge hole in the sport/driving/racing world. If you haven’t seen some of his driving videos, you are really missing out. A great series covered the making of the videos from behind the scenes.

I wouldn’t mind seeing more throwback schemes for the NASCAR 75th anniversary season! Be cool if Legacy MC brings back the Mellow Yellow scheme Kyle Petty had back in the early 90s for a race, you know, since they have the 42 car and all!

DIY Chad 726 January 24, 2023 at 8:02 pm

You mean the one Kyle Larson ran at Darlington a few years or so ago

Reply
DoomusRLC January 24, 2023 at 9:59 pm

Noah would be perfect for that throwback lol

Stupid Shinji! January 24, 2023 at 10:14 pm

would be cool to see the 5 in the 1999 Kellogg’s got milk colors Terry ran.

Reply

@DIY Chad 726 yeah that was cool when Larson ran that scheme too!

@DoomusRLC oh dude, you’re right, that one or the Coors scheme from 1995-96!

I am so glad someone is running a Ken Block tribute paint scheme this year, I’ve been wondering about that for a bit

Reply
Brett Ludwig January 24, 2023 at 9:00 pm

They need to change the number to “Monster Green”

All I want is one day before the season starts suddenly every nascar YouTuber to break the news
“THE CUP SERIES FINALLY PUTS more POWER BACK INTO THE CARS, 750hp at superspeedways, and 800 at all other races.”

Really I just hope they can make the cars safer for the drivers tbh.

Also about the special scheme subject, just an opinion, I’d sure love to see nascar get back to special scheme races again. All exhibition races should be special schemes, we need the throwback darlington scheme, Bristol night needs special scheme, the summer Daytona race needs to be Pepsi versus coke or something like that. It really makes a difference for viewers

That pennzoil scheme reminds me big time of Steve park/Japanese GT500 Nissan GT-R (r34) vibes.
And also, HUGE shoutout to RFK for the Ken Block tribute. I was really really hoping somebody would do that for him and I’m so glad they did. I need Diecasts of them!!

Nothing Here January 24, 2023 at 8:31 pm

I believe that the first Skyline that used this scheme was the R33

Reply
Satoshi Serena January 25, 2023 at 12:13 am

I think it’s more like the 1999 Pennzoil Nissan Skyline GT-R in that year’s JGTC series. I’ve always wanted Logano to run a scheme like that because of the Gran Turismo nostalgia.

I blame Sunoco for the half-assed effort on it.

I know (after 3 listens) he said, “a well-groomed man feels self-assured”, but I heard it as, “a well-groomed man feels selfisher”. There’s a fine line between those two.

Has he even reacted to the Bowman scheme yet? Seems like one that he would really love, especially the day time one

Reply

I did a couple weeks ago! The daytime scheme was my favorite: https://youtu.be/7tVtb7ZeNVY

I can tell from first hand experience growing up at local dirt tracks, a small muffler on a V8 race engine does make the motor a little bit quieter than no muffler. But that muffler didnt negate the ground pounding rumble of a racecar, or the need for earplugs. They did make it nicer to work on/around a car that is idling in the pits.

Reply
Matt Duncan January 24, 2023 at 9:14 pm

It would be so cool if RFK could bring that scheme to Daytona or maybe somewhere with some significance to Ken Block

Reply
Paul McCourt January 24, 2023 at 9:29 pm

Here in Australia we have a 95db mandatory sound level at all race tracks, although not as loud as the old megaphone exhausts a lot of teams have learnt how to get around the decibel limits. With exhaust placement and such!

Reply
Addicted2YouTube January 24, 2023 at 9:38 pm

When you first said mufflers, my heart sank. But knowing that they’re only gonna be ran right in the city, that’ll be fair, I think.

Reply
John Haas January 24, 2023 at 11:08 pm

If Eric didn’t even tell you about the mufflers you wouldn’t even notice. You’re still getting your V8 rumble It’s only going to lower the decimal points about 10 points so maybe the sound makes you feel that you’re 50 ft away

Crybaby Americans make me sick. There’s going to be noise in my neighborhood for three hours. I just can’t take it. By the Coliseum? The radios playing bass music coming from the street cars will drown out the race. Give me a break.

Reply
michael Pluska January 25, 2023 at 1:17 pm

Probably going to be a glass pack style “muffler”… Not a passenger car style.

Reply
CORONITAMAN January 24, 2023 at 10:23 pm

Honestly, even without the mufflers, the Gen 7’s are significantly quieter, at least for me; going to Watkins Glen and Pocono this last year, I spent a majority of those races not needing the ear protection as much as I did for the xfinity races during the same weekend or when I went to those tracks in previous years

Reply
John Haas January 24, 2023 at 11:03 pm

They aren’t quieter They are louder

jfendi January 24, 2023 at 11:42 pm

i remember when going to atlanta last year, the way the next gen car’s sound reverberated against the metal grandstands was amazingly loud, don’t think it was even that loud when i watched the gen 5 car race in atlanta in 2008. i even would be walking behind the stands and i could still feel the intense rumble from there, it was that loud. honestly an experience i’ll never forget, and the pack racing was pretty fire, hope they don’t take too much of that away this year.

Jeremy Shelton January 25, 2023 at 2:05 pm

Love checking in with you to get offseason and in season info. Thank you Eric. Get some soundproofing insulation in that room to help with the reverb and take the audio to the next level!
