Would you like to see Shane van Gisbergen in the Cup Series?
Give SVG the full-time contract next year or in 2025 he could do next year’s Indy 500 in the year after.
Yes, he seems like a great driver.
I can see himself in the cup series in 2025.
Yes
Everyone does. Great driver.
It wasn’t surprising how much American fans appreciated SVG’s win. Who doesn’t love the Cinderella story? In a few years SVG is going to have a really big home at Lake Norman.
And glad Bubba finished last after his block party.
IKR !!! I’ve always wanted a ringer to win in cup ! And SVG didn’t disappoint!!
@Dave Hughes Farm what wrong with block parties?
Americans love an underdog and honestly who can resist a story like this?
Gizzy has always been great in the wet but to get out of a right hand drive car and jump in a left hand drive car in just over a week and win shows the true talent he has and he is not the only driver in v8 supercars that could compete with the nascar drivers.
It’s not the first time he drove the LHD cars tho. He does few rallies with LHD Skoda Fabia Rally2 car, including in last year’s WRC Rally New Zealand where he finished 3rd in the class.
@Marv Dondokambey GT3 cars as well, multiple starts in those cars. A few wins also
@Jeff Lewis Racing yep. I only mentioned rally cars because it shares other things which Nascar Cup Cars does have as well – sequential gearstick
@Marv Dondokambey Yea I get it, I was just adding onto your point is all
The race at Chicago was the best road course race I’ve seen NASCAR run let’s do it again next year
Make a couple more
Street course
Nascar has a three year contract with Chicago.
One thing that helped is that the V8 Supercar that he drives in Australia isn’t all that different from the Next Gen Cup Car. Throw in that they aren’t all that respectful in Supercar so you he knows how to dodge someone wanting to dump him.
Dude just casually won in a left hand drive after just 1 test run in the car lol
…and he is doing another street circuit in his RH drive car back in Aus in a few days time.
He does few rallies in the past with the LHD cars
@Marv Dondokambey yeah I’m aware, but to just win a NASCAR race with only a test and qualifying run in the car ever is a big achievement and speaks to his talent that he could wheel anything
It was awesome that he had an in car cam live streamed on youtube — I was trying to figure out who he was and then watched the race from his in car.
This was an alignment of the stars of the right place, the right time, and the right guy –
But, I want him to enjoy this because the next time he shows up, he’s one of boyz now and will be treated like anyone else. He was extra careful not to bump anyone out of the way, but he sure will do it.
Now put him on a mile and a half oval? I think he’ll have a completely different experience. He won’t be teaching a street course clinic on a transitioning track, he’ll be the one taking notes and probably sitting behind the wall fairly quick.
But it was amazing! and so happy for Shane! You know he had a good time!
He didn’t bump anyone because it’s not he style, only poor drivers who can’t win any other way bump other drivers..
If you did any homework you’d see Shane drives sprint cars as well so he used to driving an oval too.
idk, i feel you underestimate his ability to drive… hopefully he goes over full time in 2025 and we’ll see how it goes
I can’t believe that they can’t pronounce his last name correctly. Congrats Shane!
Me too….was going to ask their names? Imho it’s a sign of ignorance to ridicule another person’s name just because you can’t pronounce it. Luckily I don’t need to watch their TV programs…;-)))
@A WNobody ridiculed his name in this clip. They just acknowledged it was foreign to them.
It’s not even that complicated of a surname either
Who? Shane Van Getzmeaburger?? It’s not that hard
He definitely deserves to do more Nascar races.
America: We are badass big race car drivers. SVG: Hold my beer.
Props to the owner of track house for finding the right guy for the job also. Guy looks like an absolute genius. I think this guy will be in a lot of road courses in years to come.
I think it’s Justin Marks that handles most of the actual day-to-day running and executive decisions for Trackhouse. I definitely wouldn’t be surprised if Shane comes back to the 91 car MANY more times.
So cool. I immediately remembered Marcos Ambrose when I heard of this guy. Didn’t realize he was the last Australian supercar guy that had a prevalence in Nascar. Clearly it transfers well surprised it doesn’t happen more often.
@Dan Millergizzy is just a master of vehicles.. open wheelers in the formula ford, street and circuit racing in the v8 supercars, a mclaren 650 gt3 in the gt cup, ferrari 488 in the 24 hour Le Mans, and a skoda in the world rally championship.. can handle a motocross bike like a pro, and I’m pretty sure he did a few seasons of d1 drift.
Not only will he win the road courses, he will be in it for the championship. The man has some serious skill on the speedway, and is comparable to Larson on dirt. Not only is he a beast on the road, he has won many races in sprint cars in NZ. Also, another bloke to look out for is Brodie Kostecki who has some serious talent on the road and oval also.
@keefy302 Correct on the drifting seasons.
He’s obviously world class and finally gets the recognition he deserves
Yes he should be in Cup series eventually
He is an extreme driving talent no doubt. NASCAR road course races he would be super competitive. Ovals – he will get his ears boxed by the regular Cup Car boys. In saying that 12 months on the ovals would make a big difference to his competitiveness. Potentially better at it that Marcos.
12 days on the ovals would be enough for him to get to grips. As for getting his ears boxed he’d relish the free for all contact which gets penalised in Supercars
@Bruce McPherson12 laps I reckon.
He started on dirt ovals when he was a kid… Turning left is pretty natural to Giz
He drives sprint cars as well…going fast and turning left doesn’t require a great deal of skill, if a gimp like Kyle Busch can do it.
I know SVG, he would catch on fast, and no way would he get his ears boxed. His race craft is second to non, but I guess you have yet to see it!
Well…he said during the post race interview that he’s got another year in Australia coming up. So, one can presume that he’ll probably try to do a couple more one-off races in 2023 and 2024 before coming to the US in 2025.
I know he has a ton more experience than the cup guys running road courses, but it was awesome to see how fast he was. He swept the floor with these guys. I would love to see him running all the road courses in project 91.
