I expected more of out the international drivers. Especially knowing SVG, Brodie and Kamui Kobayashi have at least one championship in the kind of racing they do. And they perform on similar tracks. Course, they normally don’t drive cars like these. So I guess you can say they were out of their element.
What more do you want from SVG? Two starts with an average finish of 5th
THANK YOU NASCAR!!! for the full race catalogue being uploaded. always love to watch classic nascar races on youtube even indulge in full seasons i’ve never seen, i recently watched the 2000 busch series season. i hope they eventually expand the website though because right now it’s a pretty limited selection considering (i would assume) they have access to most if not all races in their history.
nfl has ways to access film from every game, even wwe allows you to view their back catalogue of events and shows. glad nascar created something similar for fans to enjoy that’s awesome
Yeah. There are currently 4 things which are completely optional to do, but would be great to see
1. Complete the catalogue, many races are missing and for example the 1987 season only has 5 races uploaded and the 2021 season has only 19 uploaded of the 40 on the schedule (including clash, duel 1, duel 2, and all star).
2. Raw feeds (footage during commercial breaks). They do this on YouTube already, not on classics.
3. Raw footage, so the camera views and original audio.
4. Races from other series
While I don’t agree with the article, on a similar note, I do think SVG’s Chicago win made fans a bit delusional going into this weekend. I saw so many people think kamui kobayashi was going to win. And yet, he did nothing. It was still great to have guys like him and Button race, but people got to remember what SVG did was special given his background, and it probably won’t happen again for a long time.
Agree. NASCAR will probably be an international series, kinda like F1, with races around the globe, and another thing that supports that is that those international tracks are all road courses, and NASCAR likely went on a road course spree in 2021 to get the cup guys good enough to outrun the international guys to get people to think that the cup guys are better and they should start watching them instead. Also, another thing that supports this is the fact that the next gen car was designed for road courses.
SVG is certainly not overhyped. Have you ever watched him racing those V8 Supercars? (If not, check it out) he’s incredible. Then he come over here, zero experience in a cup car, wins one race and top ten in the other. More than impressive
It’s certainly impressive but the hype is that they’re way better than nascar drivers. They aren’t. The best nascar drivers are about the same or better than the best drivers of all the other series.
I wouldn’t say they’re overhyped, but I think we do gotta manage expectations. I felt bad for Kobayashi because it’s clear he really didn’t get a whole lot of experience with a Cup car before jumping into this, and it really showed on Sunday. He’s a talented wheelman, but his experience is with cars that have way more grip and braking power.
I also feel bad for Jensen Button because while he’s still shown a lot of pace, he’s still stuck in a RWR car so his talent really isn’t going to be reflected by his finishing position.
While these drivers have a lot of experiences with road courses, they’re still hopping into cars and tracks (for the most part) that the Cup guys are most familiar with, so the Cup guys are always going to have an advantage in that sense.
I think we see the Aussie V8 drivers have a better time translating their success from Australia to NASCAR because the cars are relatively similar to a modern NASCAR stock car than an open wheel car. I think for the open wheel guys, there’s a lot of habits to change even on familiar racetracks like COTA.
I’m surprised JTG Daughtery hasn’t considering they get no manufacturer support from Chevrolet.
I definitely think that these international drivers are NOT overhyped. These drivers are the real deal of modern racing and know how to win. If they did not, then why would they be here? Depending on wherever kind of racing they come from it is a big deal in which the sport gets new exposures and new viewers from around the world.
JTG already has a relationship with RFK. I can definitely see JTG going to Ford and forming a full alliance with RFK.
The fact that Jenson Button has performed as well as he has with RWR equipment tells me quite a lot. Sure he’s not exactly winning races, but he’s clearly doing well with what he has.
SHR has been supplying Button’s cars for his starts. RWR just gets the points and supplies the team
SHR has provided sponsorship for his starts too. Mobil 1
I don’t think all international drivers are overhyped, as pretty much every driver has their own unique skill set that can be translated to a number of racing series throughout the globe. However, some unfortunately are.
As for teams that could switch manufacturers, that remains to be seen. I’d like to eventually see SHR switch back to Chevy, or Petty GMS (I will personally no longer call them LMC) switch to Dodge if Chrysler decides to come back to NASCAR.
One of the things I think is being g overlooked is how the international drivers will influence other international drivers, or people attempting a race career. We could see more of an international crowd trying for a ride in the Cup Series here in a few years. Hell, we could see an outright Olympic style format brought in
Hear me through on this one: What if the regular season champion every year got an automatic spot in the Championship 4? That would make consistency start to matter more in the regular season
That would give the regular season champion the ability to just start and park 9 races in a row. The current format (as bad as it is) rewards consistency more than that would.
I am a huge SVG fan ever since I first saw him in Aussie V8s. I wanted to see him have a good day and drive a good race. He did. So did Kostecki. Sometimes I really enjoy seeing guys pass a bunch of cars. Kostecki did that. Kobayashi says he wants to return from what I heard and I’d watch it. I took it as entertaining. And it was just a good race.
I think as a Canadian fan, Nascar needs to have international races. Start off easy with stuff in Mexico and Canada so that the drivers don’t have to travel as far. That will attract racers from the country they visit to compete and also inspire younger viewers.
PS a good video game also helps.
I think that the amount of international drivers coming to race in our series is a great thing for the sport and could be the part if the open wheel invasion per say. However I don’t think we can make a decision on weather the international drivers are over hyped until we can see a guy like svg put a season, both to compare tv ratings but also talent.
I must say Nascar is doing the right things in the last couple of months. I’m watching Nascar a few years now (as many races as possible which is not that easy for an Austrian) and I always watched the races with joi, but now seeing all these international stars it’s so much more entertaining, because any other racing series is doing the same. They all have guest starters in races and this makes it so moch more fun not only for us, also for the drivers to compete with global stars. And more important, since Button or Rockenfeller are racing in Nascar, I can watch some of the races in freeTV and I think this helps Nascar also a lot to gain fans around the world if the races are broadcasted in many different countries.
I do believe having international drivers is great for NASCAR . we need to take NASCAR overseas to prove that our drivers cannot do just do left turns but can also do right turns as well. I am looking forward to what the future holds for NASCAR.
Eric is such a sage. His the only reason I got into Nascar. He makes Nascar make sense for us casual fans.
