@Motorsport Moments While that is a valid argument, you still can’t really blame the drivers cause that was a poorly designed part of the track, and I’m glad they fixed it.
No that Chicane as a whole is the issue. If it was designed more like the Bus Stop at Watkins Glen then I think that there would be more fanfare with the roval
I was there for the xfinity race either that year or the year after it had rained when I went. I remember seeing one car spin another out of the bus stop I think it’s called (the green flag restart zone was)(had red grass) and then the same guy getting revenge next lap
It is one of the worst. The worst chicane that I have ever seen was a temporary tire barrier chicane that was used for the 1994 Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix in the wake of Ayrton Senna’s death at Imola. They put the temporary chicane near a corner and it was hit several times during practice and qualifying
It was the OG design. Roval was rushed and they didn’t have time and or didn’t want to change the back stretch wall in fear it would ruin the oval product.
Honestly, in NASCAR Heat 3 the original chicane was so much fun to drive, you basically didn’t need to brake and just hammer through there going off the gas for a moment

@A Loving German Flaggo slower so you don’t slide into the wall. If it wasn’t there, drivers would just cut the corner like they do now.

I think they should make it a little shallower so that it has that Watkins glen, throwing the car through feel.

The problem with that chicane was, it was too inviting; too easy to mess up bc you didn’t have to slow down that much
The lack of runoff certainly didn’t help. Not to mention the numbskull sausage kerbs on the exit. Good thing the redesign fixed those issues.
