What Is Going On At RCR?!

What is going on at RCR?! This is a question that seriously needs to be asked after the frankly unprofessional showing by Richard Childress, Austin Hill, and Andy Petree of Richard Childress Racing had at the Martinsville Speedway. While being a race for the NASCAR Xfinity Series title and having the emotion with it the look for the team is one of toxicity. So let's look at what is basically a witch hunt of Sheldon Creed.

What do you think of Sheldon Creed and the Martinsville drama?

I found it to be dumb like if you’re gonna do that at least win now no rcr cars are going to Phoenix

I don’t see the problem with the Finnish. Hill was way to dumb afterwards

Not Creed’s fault

I think creed just gained a lot of fans

Creed in my opinion did nothing wrong. Creed used a bumper in the sport and a track where it’s talked greatly to use the bumper. He never clean him out just gave him a nudge. The only thing he did wrong was park it on the top because he over drove the corner trying to out break the 21. They both have the right to be mad at each other but neither is in the wrong. RCR has pointed the blame on a person they openly dislike. Creed at least publicly never hated it or disrespected his team or his organization. I love creed and after how RCR handled Reddick leaving I have lost all modern day respect for RCR

Except for how they turned Rowdy Busch’s career around but that is more or less to do with Kyle Busch being Kyle Busch

@smoke14 that is false if you watch the points at the end if there was no crash even if he finished 2nd hill would have been out by 1 to 2 points

@CHAR AZNABLE0087
“In overtime the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet Camaro SS lined up alongside Hill at Martinsville Speedway. The duo slammed into one another as they battled for the win. Hill could make it in on points while Creed was facing must-win scenario. With two laps to go, both drivers seemed poised to make the Championship 4 until the contact.”

“The contact allowed Justin Allgaier to sneak into the battle. In the chaos, Hill was turned by John Hunter Nemechek exiting the final corner. Creed narrowly missed the win in a photo finish. That eliminated both drivers from the opportunity to compete for a championship.”

@smoke14 wrong just rewinded had Hill finished second he would have lost to Custer by 1 point

Hill is the one who ended both of their contentions for the championship. Honestly don’t get why he doored Creed into 3 unless it was entirely out of spite. He wasn’t going to beat Sheldon by doing that.

Barry_Matthews October 29, 2023 at 6:32 am

100% agree, creed raced him hard but never put the two of them into too bad of a position, creed turning down into his door going into the final turn lost them both momentum and position on the track to allow the 7 underneath

feeb October 29, 2023 at 2:55 am

I think the main takeaway is hill and company knew what creed needed, and what he would do. Creed was fast and hill immediately door slammed him. If he relented they finish 1-2 and both advance. RCR is not a strategic team owner

The Thomahawk October 29, 2023 at 3:03 am

Yup, worst case scenario, he’s in a drag race for 2nd with Allgaier if he concedes.

RCR been that way since the Skinner Sr. days. It was Burton who was their glue guy probably.

Okay, I don’t get it. Knowing Jesse’s attitude, why does Austin think he’d be a better teammate? If Jesse is anything like he was in ARCA, I’m waiting for a Ty Gibbs season where he wins races, but pisses off every driver who would challenge him.

Hill clearly hasn’t watched any ARCA this season

Reply

If Jesse Love drives the same as he would in ARCA, I think Austin Hill might actually go ballistic.

Austin Hill’s quote of “Maybe he’ll work better with me” instead of it being “Maybe he’ll work better for the team” is very telling IMO..there’s clearly favoritism and this whole organization should be embarrassed

Easy E Network October 29, 2023 at 3:18 am

I would have fired Hill for costing his team and the 2 any shot at going to Phoenix.

Zach Walentiny October 29, 2023 at 3:02 am

I’m pretty sure Jeff Green even said on a podcast that during his time at RCR, his 30 car was treated differently and served more like a test car for Harvick’s 29 car at the time.

Reply
DoomusRLC October 29, 2023 at 4:15 am

That 30 car definitely felt like a test car in general. Oddly when Jeff got in the car for the last third-ish of 2004, it got more focus lol.

Reply
Craig Grant October 29, 2023 at 4:25 am

I always thought that about the Hendrick 25 car when Kenny Schrader was driving it . I always figures his car was to test parts on

Reply
Casey smith October 29, 2023 at 4:35 am

@Craig Grant I felt the same when Kyle Bush Was on Hendrick Motorsports team in the 84 or 5, that Kyle was the car to test parts on and they wanted him gone for his mentality he still has to this day that makes so people ether love him or hate him in NASCAR.

I don’t think Sheldon deserves criticism, he was going for the win and you have to do what it takes to win. But again, it’s another example of drivers showing no respect in all 3 series

This is completely ridiculous creed didn’t do anything wrong and his teammate said in his interview I can’t wait til he’s gone, petree their veteran competition director cursing him out after the race and rc calling him the dumbest driver ever like wtf they’re doing a great job at alienating themselves from the rest of the fans and garage

Reply
Austin Arnold October 29, 2023 at 3:24 am

Sheldon literally did nothing wrong. He drove his heart out, it was good hard racing. And if Austin hadn’t thrown his little tantrum into 3, RCR finishes 1-2 and gets both guys to Phoenix.

Reply
DALE ANDERSON October 29, 2023 at 5:52 am

Exactly. He has no one to blame but himself for creed having to gather it up in the center of the corner.

Reply
CHAR AZNABLE0087 October 29, 2023 at 7:07 am

@DALE ANDERSON sorry i will say this only because i love this sport and not a fan of RCR but you are blaming the other guy for creed driving mistake dont see the logic

Reply
mason everidge October 29, 2023 at 8:39 am

@CHAR AZNABLE0087 Creed didn’t make a mistake he was forced to overshoot the corner because Hill fucking doored him at the tail end of the backstretch

Reply
mason everidge October 29, 2023 at 8:40 am

Said this before Austin Hill finish 2nd eliminated by 1 point

Reply
B C October 29, 2023 at 8:41 am

@CHAR AZNABLE0087 probably because he saw what appeared to be Hill dooring the hell out of Creed as they entered the corner and this is after the restart where Hill screwed up and to make up for his mistake and not to loose the lead to Creed, he ran him up the track and made contact.

hbbeverly October 29, 2023 at 3:35 am

I think their true colors are coming out after this race. As long as I can remember one car has always been favored over the second car on the team. I thought Sheldon creed did everything he was supposed to do, and was not in the blame for trying to get the Win, and get into to the Top Four for the championship. There’s something very wrong with that.

Reply
D4nkfury October 29, 2023 at 3:38 am

Sheldon put together a real solid season, never got a win but he nearly made the final 4, only losing it by inches. It’s disgusting to see how he’s been treated there. Thankful he’ll be out of that team for his sake next year.

Sheldon Creed gave Hill a chance to race for the win. He could have Ty Gibbsed him in Turn 1 after the white flag, but he wanted to race fairly. I feel so bad for Creed because he gets treated like he’s a bum.

Idk if you can classify what Hill and Childress said as a “heat of the moment” deal. That’s about as unprofessional as it gets. And tbh, blatant examples of favoritism like this are why RCR has been a mid organization for the last decade.

And really, throughout the last two years, it felt like Hill was a much higher priority in RCR than Creed–even more so now, with the extension that Hill signed to stay with the team. It just really makes you wonder about the backstage politics that be taking place in that facility. We know RC will move heaven and earth to give his grandsons every opportunity possible to succeed, but that hasn’t exactly panned out. And there’s been several stories of how he heavily favored Dale over his other drivers, too. And I’m willing to bet that Reddick was treated like a second fiddle to Austin Dillon throughout his time at RCR, and that was further exacerbated by the lame duck situation last year.

Now Hill does have a right to be upset to a certain extent, but it ain’t like Creed just punted him on the last lap like Ty did to Brandon Jones last year. (And I know we get on Coach for the favoritism he has shown his grandson, but even he scolded Ty very heavily afterwards.) Creed was in a must win situation, so you can’t blame him for doing everything he can to advance to the Championship 4. And it shouldn’t matter which RCR Chevy makes it, so long as the team in general brings back the Xfinity title…but they made it clear as day that they were putting all their eggs into Hill’s basket.

Nonetheless, I’m kinda glad that Creed is gonna get out of that situation very soon.

Sam Hempsall October 29, 2023 at 1:40 pm

I’ll feel this season is Hill’s peak as a driver. He is already pushing 30, no one other than RCR considers him a true Cup prospect. Creed still has plenty of potential left in him.

I remember in 2015 at Richmond, Austin Dillon was whining to Grandpa about Paul Menard not letting him pass when both Dillon & Menard where trying to make the chase.

RC told Menard to pull over and Menard flat out said no & that if Austin was good enough he would’ve passed him
