NASCAR did well with this deal, however I don’t like the 10-race period where races will be split across Amazon and TNT. Seems a bit messy and hard to follow
I feel the same way how am I gonna watch 5 races in 2025 knowing there’s a possibility I may have to watch some more NHRA races in coming year because Tony Stewart is gonna be competing full time but again that’s 2025 not 2024. But I might try and watch some more NHRA races. and I am not big on Amazon Prime Video I have never used it I don’t know if I want to.
I have been saying for years NASCAR should have grown their app. We used to be able to watch the race from a few camera angles, as well as in car cameras. NASCAR could have had a tier system charging a higher monthly fee to give the subscriber access to a NASCAR exclusive broadcast on the app. This would have been a direct income for the sport. You still have ads. Or allow for an ad free subscription. NASCAR should have wrote it into their tv deal clause, allowing them the rights to produce their own app based content. This would be huge for fans. Everything would be at the finger tips of their fans.
I miss the race view option. it really was worth paying for when that was an option to use. i could follow any driver and see a 3d view of what was going on. really miss that 🙁
WOW!!! That’s WAAAYYYY too many channels, networks, stations, planets, galaxies, sheesh. That’s gonna be confusing for some. Will cause alot of people to miss alot of races.
Just my opinion.
Thanks Eric!!
I know MLB is very different from NASCAR. But, I can watch every 162 regular season baseball game for less than $200 a year. That includes special documentaries, MLB Network, Spring training, and Radio coverage. It is amazing and I love it! Although, NASCAR might cost over $100 monthly to watch just the 36 cup races alone. It might be cheaper to start flying out and attending the races lol.
I hope practice and qualifying get some more content , with no commercials too fill time on streaming you’d be looking at like bearly an hour of content. Maybe we can finally go back to getting interviews with the whole field instead of just the pole winner and the poplar guys
The new tv deal has effectively priced me out of watching any races. I can’t afford 100 dollars to line the pockets of NASCAR. Guess I will have to depend on YouTube to get what I can find for free after the race is over. ITS ALL ABOUT GREED IN MY OPINION. l love racing but not like I used to. It’s a rich man’s sport and it has finally priced me out. By the way I’m 79 years old and have enjoyed racing for over 40 years but no more after all this B. S. If they loose my generation and aren’t attracting the younger generation then NASCAR may be doomed.
It will be interesting to see how the streaming goes. I personally think there will be a huge ratings drop on the Amazon races. The bigger thing I think to watch in the numbers is if there is a big drop pre streaming and then post streaming. Do fans tune out the last half of the season if they miss those Amazon races as they went so many weeks not watching? The playoffs have not had the best ratings as of late and now missing a chunk of the season my be the final nail to not come back for the sillyness that is the playoffs. Its just something to look at besides the race day ratings on Amazon.
Expect Amazon to use bots to push up the viewership numbers. They have a financial interest in aquiring as many exclusives as possible. So they will pad their stats to make that option look more appealing for Addscar
Putting Nascar on streaming services just eliminated a lot fans over 50 who don’t subscribe to them. Cable was just fine. Can’t use the DVR to time shift with streaming.
My biggest question is will Prime and TNT produce their own race coverage? TNT and NBC shared resources in the 2000s, and with how challenging and expensive it is to broadcast NASCAR I would have to wonder if these broadcast partners plan on sharing resources again. Potential scenarios include:
1. FOX produces the 5 Prime Video races, NBC produces the 5 TNT broadcasts
2. Prime and TNT share resources and those 10 races look the same
3. NASCAR Productions produces the 10 races for Prime Video and TNT
4. Prime Video does their own thing. Perhaps an alternate feed or two like they do with their NFL broadcasts
5. Least likely option but with the investments in the new NASCAR Productions facility and NP already doing the CW Xfinity broadcasts, does NASCAR follow F1’s model and produce a world feed that the FOX/Prime/TNT/NBC adds their graphics and talent like Sky Sports does? I DON’T think this will happen but I’d have to think it has at least been considered.
Looking forward to something new for a change when it comes to NASCAR on TV. Just a shame we gotta wait well over a year for it.
I’m a 28 year old who up until now has had no way of watching the races because we don’t have cable or an antenna. I’ve almost exclusively listened to the races on mrn. With prime and max getting in it I can now actually watch the race so it’s a win for me.
In 4 out of the 7 years I’m not sure we’ll still be saying it’s a huge win. Hopefully there are some clauses to pick up streaming options or maybe Fox and NBC will introduce their own streaming partnership that can allow people to access the sport cable free

Thank you for covering this this is the first time I’m hearing about it I can’t wait to tell my dad
Here’s another crazy fact. The Chicago Street race only had around 100k less viewers than the Indy 500. NASCAR has its issues, but it’s still king.

I agree with you .. but nascar can’t pay itself 7.7 billion dollars … it’s about money period .. it is what it is

I have a feeling the Xfinity series will get close tv ratings to the Cup series

Yeah just split fuel cost and you’ll probably even save money

NBC not putting their races on Peacock completely is infuriating.
Every race should have a broadcast option and a streaming option.
In a perfect world

I really wish one of these networks would land Dr Jerry Punch for broadcaster. He was awesome

thanks for making the easy-to-read graphics. the new changes are a wrinkle in our routine, but your presentation smooths out any misunderstanding.
