The team OWNERS don’t want more on track time, to save a few pennies on equipment. That’s today’s NASCAR: the desires of the few outweigh the needs of the rest.
Teams save on money. Less tires, fuel, and saves on hotel costs for crew. Plus whatever else they save on.
It’s possible it’s to keep it more competitive for smaller teams too.
I don’t care if I’m called a boomer, I want the old speedweeks back. The Daytona 500 is the most watched motor race in the US. It needs way more buildup.
Jk. I 100% agree. I miss the old speedweeks. The anticipation of the new season and wanting to consume anything NASCAR that I could leading up to it… Good times.
@@thejman3489respectfully, the Daytona 500 is the most watched Motorsport event in the USA. It has beat the Indy 500 in ratings for who knows how long now.
Hey Eric Estepp. Are you ready for the off-season to be over? Because we are one month away from off-season to be finally over. Nascar is officially almost back. Who is excited? Because I am.
honestly two practices day before qualifying is what i like to see then have practice after the duels. teams can get kinks worked out before qualifying open teams most importantly and if teams wreck a car in the duels more sessions is more time to get them setup even if its just practice before and after the duels & qualifying let teams have more time on track before sunday imo.
That’s way too much f****** practice time anymore Teams wouldn’t even use half of it and all it does is benefit the big teams that have three to four cars Because they can find a bigger advantage
Yes I love green Sonoma It would great to see them race on it but I am from the bay area and it rains a lot in northern California especially in the spring months… unfortunately
I’m with you, it’s foolish to hold an important event like the Daytona 500 without a 30-minute shakedown practice. I’d even go so far as saying it’s dangerous.
I strongly agree. I’m a former NASCAR asphalt mod racer here in CT and I strongly agree. It’s very dangerous even on short tracks. Even a 5 min practice something like Jesus
It’s more so the idea of just seeing cars on track. See who’s in what car, different paint schemes, profiling certain drivers. The practice itself is whatever, but just seeing the cars logging laps brings much anticipation to the season opener.
My first year of Speedweeks was in ‘83, ironically, the year Cale broke 200mph, flipped on the second qualifying lap and won the 500 in a show car, and Speedweeks was a spectacle with all of the on track activity. The diminishing of such is a sad sign of the times.
Double the fun with Shane van Gisbergen. As for the speed week hopefully one year Nascar will get it right. Hey on another note Kyle Larson goes 217 mph in his rookie orientation for the Indianapolis 500.
Isn’t this the last year on the LA coliseum contract? Perfect scenario is bringing the clash back too Daytona a day before qualifying in its OG pole winners only, 20 laps showdown, an attach a hour long practice for the duels before that as a pre gamer.
I always appreciated Speedweeks because you had the opportunity to see the new pairings, new paint schemes, new sponsors, and those that had no provisionals for the first 5 races had to hope to qualify well or race their way in during the duals. The Cinderella stories of Speedweeks were some of my favorites, and with 50-60 cars some years, you usually ended up with a couple of those awesome stories to watch.
There were so many story lines that I felt like came from Speedweeks, but some of that came from those who used to cover the races allowing the racing to be the show, instead of the announcers or commentators.

Nascar needs to go back to 2 weeks at daytona
That’s never f****** happening again So shut the f****** as required NASCAR did not ask for fans to cry about it

we’ve really gone from speedweeks to speedweek to speeddays now…
Might as well cram it all in one day and call it speedhours
NASCAR I still love but it has gone downhill big time and it’s sad. Local track racing is where it’s still at 100%
Maybe we’re in the one hour speedminutes

Yeah
It’s a shame that there will not be any practice before qualifying, but teams wanted it
Why would teams not want any practice that’s really weird?

The smaller teams want less practice cause they feel it makes them have a better advantage.

These clowns are soft whiners.. nascar has been dead for 20 years
…. Boomer.

@JoeJoe-uy6ck if it was dead it wouldn’t have good attendance during football season, but this year it had pretty good attendance
You are forgetting about the Indy 500 but yeah the Daytona 500 is definitely second on that list of US races.

i think the owners are the ones that opted not to have practice at these speedways
Bingo

I used to enjoy going to practice at Daytona, it was interesting listening to the drivers commenting on their cars

It’s not getting moved back to Daytona
I’m so excited I have tickets to the Saturday and Sunday races at Daytona. Will get to see both of SVG’s first races!
