The 2014 Daytona 500 was one of the most unique Daytona 500s. There was rain, shine, and even a possible tornado. With some of the most iconic moments of the 2010s happening in this race it is still odd to see that it has been a decade since this race happened. So today we are going to look back at the best Daytona 500 of the Gen 6 Era.

What is your favorite Daytona 500 moment?
Mine was Dale Earnhardt finally winning the 500
The Stenhouse win
Ryan Newman crash
The 2007 finish, despite the upset
Dale Sr. in 1998. Seeing every pit crew member on every team line up to give him a high-five was the best moment in NASCAR history in my opinion.
Hard to believe it’s been almost 10 years since Dale Jr won his 2nd Daytona 500
Hard to believe the 3 has been back a decade.
Also hard to believe it’s been that long since Gen 6
@@polycube868 2014 was PEAK year for gen-6. Further meddling by the higher-ups of NASCAR and it ruined the racing for the remainder of the gen-6 era
@RazorSharp75426 yeah NASCAR should NOT have changed the aero and horsepower every other year like they did
Originally, I talked to my uncle about going to the 2014 Daytona 500. However, somewhere around January, I talked to my uncle to see if we can go to St. Petersburg to see my first IndyCar race.
That was such a lucky and smart decision because if we went to the 500, my uncle and aunt and I would not have stayed thanks to the long delay and I could’ve missed out on the rest of the race and seeing Jr win in person.
Thankfully I got to see Will Power win in person!
But as for the race, the 2014 Daytona 500 was such an awesome race! I picked Tony Stewart to win, but sadly he had issues.
Still a fun race. I can’t believe it’s almost 10 years ago. I was in 7th grade at the age of 13!
As far as the Gen 6 era I wouldn’t argue if anyone said the 2014 500 was, but I would argue the 2020 Daytona 500 is the best of the Gen 6 era. People only remember that race for Ryan Newmans crash at the end but the racing was unbelievable. Say what you want about the shitty 550 package from 2019-2021 and I agree but the superspeedway racing during that time was some of the best we have seen since the early 2000s. And the 2020 Daytona 500 is criminally underrated
100%. I’ve been watching NASCAR since like the 2011 season, and as soon as I saw the title and thumbnail I was genuinely upset. This race was absolutely incredible, plus it ended with a legendary win by Dale Jr, but it still doesn’t even come close to what we saw in the 2020 race.
Even the finish was exciting, barring newman’s accident.
I think the delay hurts the 2020 one for some people being it was on a Monday. I loved it though. Yeah the 14 one was delayed too but look who won.
@@elijahrothwell3215also the fact Ryan Newman wrecked badly also hurts it since people where questioning if they should keep doing GWC at superspeedways.
This is similar to the 2001 500, possible greatest of all time ended with a horrible crash (one obviously worse than the other)
I agree. I’ve watched that race 3 times now. I rarely watch a twice.
The 2020 Daytona 500 literally had everything, I went to that race and it was amazing actually
I swear if that Newman finish didn’t happen, it would be remembered as an instant classic
The only Daytona 500 as good as the 2020 one was 2001. And look what happened at the end of both of them…
I was in my first year of Middle School at the time, and I watched this race until just past halfway because the curfew for me at that time was to stay up until 9 pm, because I had school the following day. When I turned the race off, Jimmie Johnson was the leader, so I assumed Jimmie was gonna win it for a 3rd time. But when I checked the highlights after coming from school the next day, I saw that Dale Jr won it.
To this day, I think to myself “If only Mother Nature didn’t play a part in this race, and if I didn’t have school the next day, I could’ve seen the whole thing”.
The 2014 Daytona 500 was insane
This is definitely my favorite daytona 500, as it is the 1st one I ever watched! Cementing Dale jr. As my favorite driver!
In terms of the racing, 2001 (the first 500 I ever watched) was the best and most entertaining…until the last lap.
My favorite was this one. I was a freshman in college at time and was at home watching it with my dad. The 6 hour rain delay, though, forced me to drive back to campus. Luckily, I was able to get there for the closing laps. I was a Dale Jr. fan and getting to see him win the 500 again was awesome.
Best night of my life right there as a Dale. Jr fan!
My favorite Daytona 500 of all time because I got to witness my favorite driver win the Super Bowl of all races. It meant the world to me
That was my favorite Daytona 500 ever! It was my senior year of High School and what a good way to graduate with my favorite driver winning the biggest race
I was in My 2nd year of high school. Pfft
Great race. Consistent, clean, respectful, two-three wide racing. A bit of pit strategy, great FOX coverage, and many heavy-hitters up front all night. Many of the wrecks were caused by rookies funny enough
Dale Jr. winning was the giant cherry on top
I would say both 2016 and 2020 were better. But then again, 2014 was the only Daytona 500 I didn’t watch live on TV or in person. So maybe watching it 2 months after took some the excitement out of it for me.
I watched this race live but it was looking like it was gonna be a repeat of the 2013 Daytona 500 but since they restarted the race at night it saved it from being a single file train race.
This was the frist NASCAR I watched from start to finish, and I was rooting for Jeff Gordon the entire time, so to see him finish 3rd and Jr win, I was a very excited 9 year old at the time,
Fun fact, my dad wasn’t a huge NASCAR fan, but he was a Terry Labonte fan, and this race was Terry Labonte last Daytona 500, I vaguely remember him and Gordon pushing one another midway through the race, and looking back at it, I thought that was pretty cool since they used to be teammates. I also watch the fall Talladega race, which turned out to be Terry last race in NASCAR. and to think that was all almost 10 years ago, crazy how time flys.
this one is my favorite. it was midnight where i was while latching the last laps. i was 8 years old. my mom was in the bed sleeping and i watched as the last 50 laps went down. Finally it was the last one and i was in tears. I saw the 11 of hamlin and i just knew dale JR would Lose. Finally out of four i knew he would do it and i began sobbing as Mike Joy Said: “CHeckered Flag its over! Its Earnhardt!” I was scared to open my eyes but when i did i saw the shot of him waving his fist and it looked like the 2001 pepsi Daytona race through my teary eyes it gave the illusion it was that race again and i was able to live through it like i dreamed of before. I also apprectiate the 59,79,86,87,90,91,97,98,00,01,04,05,07,10,14,15,22 Daytona 500s as well
I was really happy when Jr won this race. But at the time my mom was asleep and I couldn’t make much noise in excitement cause she had to work the next day. And before she went to bed she told me, don’t spoil me who won”. Next day roles around, one of her regular customers came in and spoiled it for her. I felt so bad when she told me but I’m glad I wasn’t the one who told her
Holy crap. I remember watching this as an 11 year old kid. I can’t put my excitement into words even now 10 years later. Watching those final 2 laps still gives me chills to this day
My favourite ones are the 2014, 2016, 2019, 2020. Mostly because of the winners but there were some awesome finishes
I went to Daytona in 2014 for my cousins graduation and we stopped by and did the tour and actually got to see this car which is so crazy because I entirely forgot about that whole event while I was watching this video
