The Most Unhinged Martinsville Race

The Martinsville Speedway is the longest continuously tenured track in all of NASCAR, it has been here since the start. The 2011 Martinsville fall race may be the wildest race from green to checkers that the track has ever hosted. Today we go back to 2011 and look at the most unhinged Martinsville race.

What is your pick for the most “unhinged” NASCAR race?

For me, as long as I lived, I feel that the Hail Melon one felt crazy and unbelievable, because of crazy that one was, and maybe possibly the 2015 Martinsville fall race, because of so much that went on, and feel there should be a deep rewind of that weekend.

Any Daytona 500 could be called unhinged, so I will go with the 2021 Daytona 500, because of McDowell Supremacy!

Some say that Vickernism still exists to this day, and not just from the driver that Jimmy Spencer named the unhinged condition after.

Ah, Fall Martinsville 2011. The day the extremely rare medical condition known as Vickernism was discovered.

A symptom of Vickernism may include unknowingly marrying a child sex trafficker for one of the worst pedos out there

Not so rare these days.

I love how they said 18 cautions and Brian Vickers was involved in about half of them LOL

Jimmy Spencer was right to warn everyone about Vickernism.

i’d give anything to have this era of nascar back to be completely honest. could just be nostalgia because i was 11 during this race, but i miss late 00s-mid 10s nascar so much. i kinda stopped watching in 2017/2018, and its been rough trying to get back into the habit of watching the races every week between me not liking the next gen car and nascar’s gimmicks

The most unhinged nascar race is the 2007 Memphis Busch race-25 cautions and a race that lasted a little over 3 and a half hours. I don’t think any NASCAR Xfinity Series race since then has ever had more than 20 cautions alone and lasted as long as this race. That year’s eventual series champion Carl Edwards had a rough outing that race and had to wait until the following week at Texas to wrap up the Busch title and David Reutimann racked up his only win in that series.

Meanwhile on other side of the world earlier on the same day, F1 was having their first ever race in India (a race that almost didn’t happen due to the teams refusing to have a portion of their race winnings taxed by the Indian government & the Indian government rejecting the visa applications of a few drivers & crew members including Nico Rosberg). As for the race itself, it was dominated by Sebastian Vettel who led from start to finish with the only major incident being a collision between Lewis Hamilton & Felipe Massa that resulted in a drive thru penalty for Massa. This was the 4th time that season that they collided while trying to pass each other.

What I always remembered about this race is that Tony ran horrible all day and was lapped or nearly lapped. Then somehow fixed the car and drove to the front.

Brian Vickers is the most strangest and odd driver of the 2000’s. One random chase appearance. 3 out of no where wins. Random spats and fights. Heart problems in 2015 that made him miss most of the season. Wife being involved with Epstein and never hearing a word about him since. To me everything about him is just very weird and strange
