NASCAR has granted Kyle Larson a playoff eligibility waiver after the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports driver missed Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600. His arrival at Charlotte Motor Speedway was delayed by rain at the Indianapolis 500, where he finished 18th in his IndyCar debut.

About damn time
Thank goodness. It shouldn’t have taken this long
He shouldn’t get a waiver he chose not to race
@@leerjet31yes to race the Indy 500!
Yessss I honestly wish that a waiver shouldn’t be a thing for drivers who already have won a race in my opinion
Soooo, win the Daytona 500, come back for the playoffs?
NASCAR gotta keep the headlines going to keep us all clicking and checking. Should have been no doubt in anyone’s mind that it wouldn’t be granted.
Every sport does that crap…
It’s not a sport… they took real life decisions, with real life consequences, and rewrote the script to make people happy… glad we could keep Hulk Hogan as a title contender. WWE. This is wrestling for cars now.
They wanted to make Kyle sweat a little bit for choosing to do Indy over being at the 600…..Even though with him attempting to do the double put more eyes on the sport
Anyone with a brain knew he was getting one lol
Thats great news!!!!!!
Finally! Hell would have been raised if they hadn’t, believe you me.
Thank u for getting this right NASCAR
Look, larson has done a lot for getting Nascar noticed with more fans.. and for not making the start of the coke 600 he Qualified 10th also he would have been able to race if Nascar would have waited 30 more minutes the track would have been dry for the cars to race. But it’s okay I’m happy as a larson fan he gets to run for the championship this year
It didn’t matter if he made the race at that point. He had to START the race to retain eligibility without a waiver.
In circumstances like this I think a driver with a W should no longer be locked in the playoffs and have to win another race to get back in.
He’s got two wins on the season.. your logic doesn’t make sense..
It shouldn’t have taken so long to reach this decision. Larson had brought so much publicity to racing during the Month of May
And they wanted a little more attention by waiting for this.
Imagine the publicity for Nascar if he did what he told us he would do and actually left the Indy 500 to start the Coke 600 and keep his eligibility. Nascar might be considered a real sport instead of just another wrestling style promotion.
Abolish the playoffs and stage racing.
They don’t have that crap in Indy Car or in the Indianapolis 500.
It’s too bad Indy Car doesn’t have more oval track races.
Its about time. You did the right thing NASCAR.
I’m glad they did since the waiver rule is so vague, plus Kyle was originally planning on running both races before mother nature threw a wrench in that plan… With how often they hand them out, even for suspended drivers, there should have been no doubt about Kyle getting one, but they kept everyone in suspense… I seriously hope they change or clarify the eligibility rules regarding playoff waivers after this.
Nothing wrong with doing the double, but if you run into issues that effect you making the start of the 600, you should prioritize that as a NASCAR Cup series team. They made a CHOICE at that point to stay in Indy.
Hell no.
NASCAR blows..
The Indianapolis 500 puts NASCAR to shame.
And it’s even better racing anyway.
@@user-jf4nj3ez2k my comment has nothing to do with what racing is better or not. It’s based off NASCARs rules. Per the rules drivers must START every Cup race of the season to be eligible for the championship. That’s my point, which you obviously blatantly missed. NASCARs rules don’t give a crap that 1 indycar race a year has better viewership then NASCAR.
Thats great… But why did it take NASCAR 1 week and a half to give him a waiver??
Will other drivers attempt to do the Memorial Day Double if a waiver takes this long??
Hell if you won a race you shouldn’t need to race till playoffs then if you get a waiver for no choosing to race
Rick Hendricks check cleared…
So the rules don’t matter did he get permission to go to Indy
