The checkered flag has flown over the Sonoma Raceway and with it the 24th consecutive season of NASCAR on FOX. With that I want to look back at the 2024 NASCAR season so far and see how FOX performed for the sport and if they improved from 2023. So with that here is our 2024 NASCAR on FOX Review.

What grade would you give NASCAR on FOX in 2024?
D- only because the booth guys redeem it from me giving fox an F
D probably
C-
5/10
D-
I thought NASCAR on FOX was starting to improve a little bit better after the 2024 Daytona 500. Nope, of course not….
At least Mike Joy and Kevin Harvick were a good duo! Pit road reporting is still good, and… Bowyer wasn’t too bad? Congrats, Clint.
Other than that, everything else is just, ugh….
I’d give it a C- Harvick was the only main positive you can look at this season. I think the booth itself is not the problem. They were all good this year and bowyer was much better. The problem is all the inexcusable things Fox still does that we have beat a dead horse with. Random taking commercials with 8 laps to go. Panning away from good battles on track to focus in on the crowd and taking like 10 seconds to pan over when there was a crash or a controversy on track or pit road. Good thing for Fox is we had a lot of magical moments this season on Fox
I have a step sister who use to work for FOX Sports and she believes that they’re just in it for the money. For the commercial breaks “Breaks equals revenue.”
That’s how they make their money, they’re not broadcasting this for fun
They’re a business. Money is the entire point.
Ask ur step sister why fox targets children and shoot stupid angles
@@JeffWeselyancreates new fans
@@JeffWeselyan I hate to say this but i’m sure there is a really good reason why they have so many Herbert Cam shots, probably a good idea (on paper) with a horrible execution
but yea, I don’t like it either
I think Harvick was a great addition to the booth, kinda acted like a bridge between Joy & Bowyer
Breaking News: Kevin Harvick is scheduled for back surgery for carrying FOX in 2024
All jokes aside the booth for particularly the cup series was a B for me. Everything else: production, camera shots, constant onboards, showing kids during a battle for the win, still missing wrecks during full screen commercials, the lack of replays for a wreck, going to full screen commercials under green flag racing/ freakin side by side while the winner is doing burnouts is all an F.
Mike Joy already had to defend FOX for their poor coverage a few times and I don’t expect anything to change for the next decade or 2.
Man Harvick had to carry SHR and NOW has to carry FOX
Get this man some help before his back turns to dust
Race hub literally ends tomorrow, I will try to watch
2:58 “And Bowyer cuts in with a joke”
And then I immediately got a 5 second advertisement on YouTube. Amazing allegory for NASCAR on FOX this year lol.
I think Fox missed more crashes than they actually got on camera in all series
As a fan of Truex, that clip of him coasting across the finish line yesterday as the crowd was chanting, “Go! Go! Go! Go!” as they erupted in cheers gave me chills
I don’t watch many races live any more (mostly just Daytona & Dega), but 2 things stick out to me. The amount of super zoomed in close shots on maybe 1-2 cars when there are 5 cars possibly battling for the same spot happen waaay too often. Also I haven’t seen any one else mention this (so it could be a personal issue), but I am not a fan of having 1/4th of the screen blocked by the standings/ticker. There has to be a better way so that we aren’t potentially missing action behind an opaque standings graphic.
It just gets worse as the years go by
I think Clint bowyer is better off as a pit reporter than being in the booth
I’ve turned off races when they start the commercials every 3 mins. I know it’s not a fair comparison but skysports shows the F1 races with no breaks, even their Indycar coverage has their own announcer during breaks on NBC. Even here in Canada it’s the same damn 5 commercials, that have nothing to do with a NASCAR audience.
I have $2000 worth of computer/AV equipment to record live broadcasts and mark the commercial breaks in those broadcasts. Then, when I’m watching the broadcast (time-shifted by a few hours) and a commercial comes on, I can hit a button on the remote and get back to racing. NASCAR broadcasts back in 2000 or so were the impetus for this setup.
On a side note, you’d be surprised how little actual play time there is in an NFL game when they’re not standing around waiting for a commercial to complete. You can literally watch one in about an hour, 15 minutes if you’re skipping commercial breaks.
D- is my absolute most generous grade.
The volume of missed track events and commercials is bad but my biggest pet peeve is the driver tracker on the left. It stays at 1-20 forever then eventually goes to 11-20, 21-30, 31-last but it flies through them. Plus it seems completely random when it does. Maybe it’s a Sonoma thing but the interval between drivers was all over the place.
what i think of is my granddad who got me into racing, he lost his sight in his 60’s and still had the race on tv every sunday, everytime the announcers lazily don’t describe the action or lay out for 2 minutes i think of him or any other older blind fans trying to enjoy the race
