I was surprised to see Bass Pro staying with Chase!

When JGR announced the media event for today – they included the fact that James Small was going to be at the even with Joe Gibbs and the new driver.

That’s not gonna go well, considering part of Truex retiring is because of him

That’s why Gibbs didn’t ask about sponsorship money he brings. He already had Bass Pro on board already staying with the 19 car

I’ve been a Tony Stewart fan for a long time. Since he was with Joe Gibbs. Then I became a Chase Briscoe fan when he was given the wheel of the #14. Chase, himself, a big Smoke fan. Now I find myself following Briscoe back to Gibbs in a weird, but pleasant, circle of life sort of thing. If only it was the #20 car. That would have been the icing on the cake.

As a Tony fan turned briscoe fan that’s exactly what I’ve been thinking!

Gotta remember Johnny Morris & Bass Pro also have a tight relationship with Tony Stewart and SHR, so this probably helped JGR and Chase

@S.K.R.E.Inc. June 25, 2024 at 8:57 pm

And unlike Stewart, these 2 have a more favorable view on Toyota or foreign brands in NASCAR in general (I think)

Speaking of Johnny Morris and Tony Stewart I’m surprised Johnny has it done any races on Tony’s top fuel car

Christopher Bell introducing Chase Briscoe is a nice touch from JGR. Something else interesting is Bob Pockrass asked Coach Gibbs if he had plans to bring the #18 back and he said there are no plans at this time to bring the #18 back. Gibbs probably felt that Kyle Busch has left such a lasting legacy for the #18 car, in addition to Dale Jarrett and Bobby Labonte, that he is probably saving the number for when the time is right. Likely waiting until Denny Hamlin retires and brings the #11 to 23XI and then maybe the #18 will return with a new driver.

@isaiahmarker407 June 25, 2024 at 9:37 pm

I’ve heard that the 11 was JD’s number so JGR probably won’t ever let it go

Reply
@john7156 June 25, 2024 at 10:04 pm

@@isaiahmarker407I was wondering about the #11 too with JD’s legacy. Denny wants to retire with JGR and if Coach Gibbs retains the #11, then the other option is the #54 becomes the #18 again with Ty Gibbs and a new driver will take over the #11. Since JGR is keeping the #19 for now, it looks like their future lineup is 20, 19, and 11, while the 54 is a question mark at this point with Ty Gibbs. Who knows when the #18 would return but I think Jeff Gordon said it best when he retired. Jeff said he would rather see #24 continue to compete on track than being retired and I am sure fans and former drivers of the #18 would rather see the car number on track and continue with a new driver.

Reply
@isaiahmarker407 June 25, 2024 at 10:19 pm

@@john7156 I don’t think the 54 will ever disappear either because that’s Ty’s number he won an Xfinity title with

Reply
@toddmanger7194 June 25, 2024 at 11:59 pm

Definitely wait a few years and not rush that number back just yet.

Reply
@john7156 June 26, 2024 at 4:03 am

@@isaiahmarker407If I recalled correctly, Kyle Busch ran the 54 with his brother Kurt as a KBM Xfinity series team for a while before Kyle brought the number and Monster Energy sponsorship into JGR. So I guess in a way, Kyle did play a small role in building a legacy with the 54 and now Ty Gibbs is creating his own legacy with the Xfinity championship title and now continuing it in the Cup Series. So definitely for sure the 54 will stick around with Gibbs in Cup.
