Just bin the playoffs, or make it about points and not wins. 34th in points driver now in the playoffs and he’s going to to absolutely f-all and go out in the first round.
literally it’s just a waste of a spot. we want to see people actually fighting to stay in to the next round
We are where we were 30 years ago, ya got 3 maybe 4 guys with a legitimate shot, unless the guys that are LAST in points get lucky a win a race, or just wreck the field ala Dillon. NASCAR has to stop trying to makf this a reality show
Go back to the old points system so a guy has to put a whole year together not just a few races=the best
My sentiments exactly!!!!
Agreed
We all want it! Harvick and Jeff Gordon were both jipped out of 3 Cup championships as well as Carl Edwards who was jipped out of 2 because of gimmicky fake playoffs resetting the points 3/4 into a season.
As a fan, I like win and you’re in for the regular season. However, change the 1 race championship format
It is what it is, despite the points system. It’s fair game who deserves or who gets in on a fluck win, they all have the same chance. It cost millions for each team to enter a car, sponsorship is a must. Teams all work hard to do their best them. Yes everyone has the equal opportunity.
Kevin Harvick is wrong. Its so hard to win a race and that shouldnt be taken away. You earn a win you earn a spot. You dont like it beat him. Winning is more important than points as it should be.
Winning once or twice is hard but consistently at the front week by week is harder imo
So by your logic a driver can finish last every race of the season and win one race and he’s considered a contender? Makes no sense
wrong. Superspeedway wins are generally the result of the random chance not being collected in someone elses wreck.
So you’re gonna take a playoff spot away from him because he doesn’t win more often?? That doesnt make sense to me. He was in 30th place so there was 29 other drivers who are better than him that did not beat him. Get no sympathy from me. He won He should be in. Everyone had the same chance. Now if they want to make so it doesn’t count towards the playoffs like a allstar race because anybody could win it. Go ahead.
We can blame nbc for the playoffs… is this the remedy to nbc wanting there “Daytona 500” moment?
Remember 20-25 years ago when NASCAR was a legitimate sport. There were hundreds of thousands of people fighting for tickets, and tens of millions of people watching on TV. As entertainment, you have like 40k people showing up at the track, and like 3 million people watching, on a good day. Shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.
Go back to the points system, keep the everything as far as 16 playoff slots, same length races for regular season and instead of win and your in. Make it to a win is double the points, so if it’s 40, now it’s 80. That’s still makes a winning important and still allows for a driver outside the top 16 in points possibly leap frog into playoff with a win on the last regular season race.
Nascar just wants more viewers, they don’t care about the actual fans of Nascar. They get more viewers with the current playoff setup; simultaneously, they are pushing Nascars base–the fans–away.
If you had a real points system the best guy wins the championship based on the seaon of finishes. What a joke
I like the way you think Kevin… the best 16 should be in not guys that got lucky instead of being good
I like the format. It’s like the Wild Card in other sports. How many times have we seen a Wild Card team make it in the Playoffs and go on a run? I’m not saying that will happen, but it’s definitely more exciting this way.
The 16 teams that are doing the best should be in there. The point of any sport is to compete, not entertain. Entertainment is secondary.
I think we are doing some hand wringing for no reason… if you are 16th in points and get bumped out of the playoffs because the 34th points guy won so what, you were 16th… you aren’t competing for a championship from 16th. Yeah, it makes a different for money, but it doesn’t affect the integrity of the playoffs, no one below 12th is going to really be a contender.
The reason it doesn’t bother me is that I feel like there are probably 10 or so cars who you really expect to win the championship. As long as they get in, then I think the integrity is upheld
Well Kevin, if they win they’re in. That makes them one of the 16 best. Get over it.
NASCAR has a problem with NASCAR integrity.
They need to get back on broadcast TV, eliminate stage breaks and the playoff format. They are chasing corporate dollars while forgetting us poor folks that carried them for many years. That’s okay. The day is coming when a Tony or a Kyle, or maybe even Ray begin a series that will finish off NASCAR.
